  1. Thanks for the heads up. My lovely wife is going to get me the jigsaw on Thursday. Man can never have enough planes, engines, radio, workshop tools or gadgets.
  2. With experience gained from my Hanger 9 Christen Eagle, I offer a few tips Buy a carbon undercarriage from Carbon Copy. You may find the one they do for the AcroWot will fit. These are nice and springy, ideal to absorb most bumpy landings. Also replace the hard as iron foam wheels with softer, sponge type wheels from your LMS. Next would be to reinforce the inside of the wheel spats with woven glass cloth and epoxy resin. I carry out these mods with most of my ARTF's and so far all's well after the odd dead stick and running out of landing strip. Happy Landings, Luke.
  3. Mine is a Black Horse Chipmunk with a RCV 91 up front. At about 2/3 power, the engine sounds almost like the real thing. It always makes me smile. Mods I made during the build include a closed loop for the rudder and the fitting of sprung oleos. It's a regular flyer throughout the year ( in its 3rd year now ) with 18 hours of flight time. Love it.
  4. Peelaway 7 Paint Stripper is a very good product. Google it and you should find a stockist near by.
  5. I just had a look at Hobbyking UK for a price of a ASP FS 120 ( same as SC ). They're selling them for £109 at the moment. Not many left in stock, so be quick.
  6. Thanks Dai for the heads up on that. I've noticed that when you get a reminder through the post, that they no longer enclose a slip of paper advising of any changes in the law or regulations. Like all transactions I carry out on line, I keep copies of invoices & confirmations. Also of note, regarding car tax, is that you can now pay monthly via direct debit.
  7. I guess the Lord needed some fresh ideas and inspiration for his latest project. RIP Pete.
  8. Hi Jack, Just Engines stock the correct item. Ref: JW 0308 Steel Locking Adapter for four strokes. Hope this helps. Regards, Luke.
  9. Hi Tony. Several years ago I had the very same problems with the same engine that came with a Cub I bought. After many attempts to get it to run nicely, I decided to strip it down, only to find that the head gasket / shim was missing. This was making the compression ratio to high, causing pre-ignition and throwing the prop all around my garage. I gave the engine a complete overhaul, with new and gaskets. It runs like a dream. Must put it in an airframe some day.
  10. Hi Chris. Go for the Align Super Torque starter. It's compact, runs off a 3S 2200 lipo and it's got loads of power. And being cordless, you have no leads to worry about. Worth every penny of it's £78 price tag. Got mine from Slough RC.
  11. Hi Kevin. The fuselage is from a Masterline Viceroy trainer. The kit came with a pre-built fuselage and veneered foam wings. I think the span was about 65 inches. I bought one of these in1988, when I returned to the hobby. I hope this helps you. Luke..
  12. Calm days don't make pilots. Any of the Chris Foss designs are good all rounder's as with most sport models. All that's required is to adjust the elevator trim by a click or two. Avoid flat bottom wings, old timer/vintage and WW1 types.
  13. Also be aware that bottles and jars can also focus the light from the sun, the same as it would with a magnifying glass. It happened to my next door neighbor a few years ago. The cause of the fire was a perfume bottle focusing the sunlight onto the bed. Despite the fire brigade arriving on scene in 5 minutes the house was wrecked, but thankfully nobody was hurt.
  14. Hi Martin. Have a look on the BMFA web site. Looks like it might be Bloobirds Radio Flyers.
  15. Boiling water is all that is needed. Hold the crankcase with cooking tongs and pour over boiling water from kettle. Using this method, you don't risk damaging the casting or coating from overheating (burning) from blow lamp or heat gun.
  16. I have been using Prosynth 2000 for about 2 years now. It has an oil content of 18% and 10% nitro and with no castor it keeps your engine clean and cool.
  17. Hi John, Area 51 Distribution stock some nice ali spinners. Give em a look. Regards, Luke.
  18. I've used Poly-C from RC world with great results on my Kamco Kavalier. This was covered in Solartex with Solartrim added for the trims. You can view the photo's in my album. Poly-C is water based, low odour and dries in 20 - 30 minutes.
