  1. Thanks guys, I was thinking of leaving the build for next Winter but I'm not a patient man! will post a picture!.........Trevor.
  2. Received my prize , the cnc wood pack for Super Slinky ! Many thanks to RCM&E ! ........Trevor.
  3. Flew my Acrowot on Wednesday at the local field where the strong easterly was creating some (alot) turbulance , it soon became clear that I wasn't going to land very nicely, sure enough it resulted in a broken prop and severed undercarriage! but no other damage. With that behind us we then went to the nearest bit of cliff that faced roughly East and duly threw the Merlin towards France , lift was not brilliant but she flew well in the conditions eventually bringing her round for a surprising perfect landing , then it was off to the nearest cafe for lunch and coffee, thoroughly enjoyable day!
  4. Some also had assymetric wings, i.e. the inboard wing was longer than the outboard wing , theory being it helped maintain line tension . I used to fly a K.K. Spectre which was built like this .

    HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Happy Christmas and happy landings to all !......Trevor
  6. I've actually fitted two switches wired in parallel on my TN Spitfire so if one fails the other keeps things going.
  7. Walked (with Multiplex Merlin tucked away in its case) the two miles to an eating place and had a non fattening fry up with an ex work friend then walked to our local flying field and had three flights with the merlin, then walked off some of that breakfast by walking home !
  8. I have two model shops that cater for rc models an hours' drive away , I drove there on Wednesday to find the first choice was closed , a sheet at the front of the shop told me it was closed on Wednesdays, I then called on the other shop only to find they close on Wednesdays also ! With hindsight I should have checked before I left home , but two model shops in the same town and both closed on the same weekday .....mmmmmmn!
  9. Thanks Tom for the pdf. I'm not a quick builder but will try to keep you informed of progress.....Trevor
  10. My mate has married a Squirt main wing to an Ultimate fus ,( both planes having previously flown and crashed some time ago) , to form a low wing sport tail dragger which he wanted me to maiden! Saturday was a reasonable day with not too much wind so off we went. It flew a treat requiring a smidging of right trim , had three successful flights with the hybrid , my mate chickened out though, I'll make him fly it next time! Also flew my Turbulent , the one I'm holding in the picture. Edited By Trots on 07/10/2012 06:58:32
  11. Saw the 1600 w/s HK version this w/e at Hastings, looks great , flies great but it looks prone to nosing over on take off and landing (on grass that is) with care the take off is ok , on landing she might just trip up. I'd have one though if I hadn't just built the TN Spitfire!
  12. A friend and I took a motorcycle ride to the Hastings Autumn fly in , the one event I managed to get to that wasn't rained off or double booked ! Brilliant! superb models, superb flying, burger /donut bar ,some trade stands and a friendly atmosphere, roll on next year! Thank you HMFC! ....Trevor
  13. Calm day Friday, flew my 36" Turbulent (the one I'm holding in my status photo), E flite PT19 as control line! and best of all my Twinstar with a camera on it to locate a mate's lost glider , replayed the video on a laptop ,spotted said glider ,later returned with saw and loppers , glider retrieved , cool eh? .
  14. Possibly would have gone if no flying but I do like models flying! It's one of those rare opportunities I get to see models other than the little park fly types that we( our group) are limited to fly. This event is my 'local' and always look forward to going with my son especially as this year I've missed two others that we try to attend because of the weather! I think the decision by the hop farm to force the flying show to cancell is nothing short of appalling and nothing to do with money I assume!!.... I do hope that this is not the death knell for SMAS.........Trevor
  15. Was determined to fly my 46" TN Spitfire last Wednesday in a blustery S blow! Plane flew brilliantly but landing was awfull! Got away with it though. Then on Friday the 'blow' had turned N.W. so sloped my Multiplex Merlin from the 'local' (abt 10 miles away) cliff, great fun!
  16. Saved about 150 grams on my Spit, used to fly with two 3s 2200 lipos just behind the firewall but angled slightly rearward, but only using one connected so that the next flight would also be with a 'fresh' battery, she balanced quite well at about 75 mm from leading edge. Tried going to one battery installed but could now angle it slightly forward this would help c of g , then cemented 15 grams of fine (almost fluid) lead shot into the nose cone of the spinner taking care that it levelled nicely before adding some ca , result is the c of g is nudging between 75 and 80 mm , plane is 150 grams lighter. Flew her on a really blustery day and she flew really well , the landing was more of an arrival but I got away with it! She tips the scales at 3lb 12 oz , flying time is short at 3 to 4 mins before power drops off and says time to come in , but I'm happy with that......Trev
  17. I use SMC online nearly all the time , great service, order one day and it's on the door mat within two days! My local (30 odd miles) model shops are much as described by others in that you invariably have to wait some time to be served.
  18. Hi Simon, well done with the maiden ! Mine came out around the four pound mark and like yours wanted to climb all the time , I'm currently working on saving some weight on mine will let you know how it goes. I like your XSC , I'm a sucker for low wing open cockpit jobs which is why I have a Turbulent and PT19 , your training for fast landings is an excellent idea and is what I should have done . Not too sure about flaperons have you considered retro fitting flaps? Two Spitfires have gone in where I fly so I was a bit nervous yesterday not wanting to be the third! Needn't have worried , had a good flight and landed her perfectly! So stable and good in the wind too. Yes thanks to Tony he knows how to design an airplane....Take care and happy landings.........Trevor
  19. Simon seems to have stepped off the edge of the planet, (apologies if you're in some kind of dificulty Simon). Flew my 46 inch TN Spitfire today in quite a strong breeze , take offs no trouble just need a touch of rudder to keep her straight, flies like it's on rails , plucked up the courage to loop and roll her , brilliant, mucked up the landing a bit but got away with it! Delighted with it. .......Trevor

    A sad loss

How very sad , I shared comments with Chris on the forum about models and bikes , have fun up there Chris. My thoughts go to the family.....Trevor
  21. CS assuming you're refering to my AB910 yes she has flown ,I've had several flights now and she flies a treat , the only problem ,and Simon needs to be prepared for this, due to the weight, landings are fairly fast and I haven't quite mastered this yet! I've found that the undercarriage legs don't take to hard landings too well and I've had to correct a slight bend each time . I'm dissappointed in the U/C as I thought the legs would put up with a bit of punishment but it looks like nothing less than a perfect touch down is required! .....Trevor
  22. Hi Peter and thanks for your reply, maybe I should have got out of the car and paddled across to you and watched the puddle dipping , good fun! I would have loved to see that Lanc though ,hope it's back next year! .....Trevor.
  23. Great video PB ! Unfortunately I could only come on the Saturday, I did come with my partner but I have to admit we didn't even get out of the car , the weather was completely disgusting , it was throwing it down, sorry guys let's hope next year is better!.......Trevor and Lyn.
