  1. Garry,            you are a braver man than I to mess with those batteries, get it wrong, and you could have a 100+ Amp     S  P   L   A   T.............not recommended  Hope you were doing the job outside!
  2. My test was only to check for wire binding  in normal flying mode,  I could find none.  That was my total interest in the test.
  3. I'm one that has used closed-loop or pull-pull system for many many years, and have never knowingly been confronted with any of the problems related in this thread.   I have found to obtain a slop free control surface the tension required is reasonablly soft.   Last evening I tried a little experiment of my own.    I used a Watts meter between the RX battery  and receiver.              Operating the rudder left and right  I had a reading of .04amp.  The elevator DOWN was .03amp  and .06amp UP. I disconected the down wire and it still read .06amp. I assume the extra .03amp is due to the weight of the elevator. These readings tell me I have no worries with my set up.
  4. John,    I have been float plane flying for a number of years, I personally think you pond it a little small, you might just manage length ways, but 65m is soon gobbled up with a float plane . Any hint of cross wind  just don't bother.
  5. David,   Click onto BRC,  they are bound to have a servo for your requirement.
  6. Christopher,   it's got to be Tex for a Radio Queen. I have used Tex on many models, and have never known oil to soak through the surface of Tex.                 I'm sure you will find the problem in the stained area is oil wicking through the balsa from the engine bay, and there is only one permanent  cure , that being replace all contaminated balsa. with new.
  7. If there is anyone in the Herts area interested in a  Radio Queen, I have an unflown model finished in Tex in superb condition,  fitted with two servos, and being given away, yes a freebe, yours if you wish to collect.  I would put a picture on site, but Photo Buckets and I are incompatable .
  8. Yes why not, I have never won anything in my life, so you guys have NO fear of my name in the pot
  9. Robert, whatever you do you will not stop the new covering delaminating again, that contamination is in there for life. From your thread statement I would say it is a severe case, and the only remedy is Timbo's  suggestion, that of surgery, and make sure you are back to oil free wood.
  10. Paul I do not envy your task, a pig of a job. I have tried with an iron but found if you were not careful the iron can force the colour into the wood, Small areas I  had success with a gentle blow with a heat gun, then by dabbing masking tape, the colour was lifted by the tapes adhesive, Stubborn areas were over painted .
  11. Richard,   you will find most kits and plans give advice of the required degrees of side & down thrust for a given size motor (Elec), or engine (I/C), which is a good STARTING point. If you increase the size of the power source further adjustments usually have to be made as part of the model's trimming.             Some models and full size alleviate side thrust by off setting the fin. What must be remembered, no identical model or full size ever have the EXACT same trim.
  12. Nice one Paul.  I have been flying one off water (floats) these past 6 years, and have  just sold it..    As Alan stated it would have been 'Solartex', mine was covered in 'Olive drab', and 'Antique'. Any reasonable model shop should carry a range of Tex covering. I did finish mine with two thin coats of clear Polyurethane  satin varnish, as I found in the past with out which the fabric can look grubby.  If you wish to see a picture of mine, look up  the gallery on     www,modelflyermagazine.com       it shows the Pup in flight,   also my  Veron Tomtit.
  13. Thank you Guys for the info, as they are already in a state of discharge I think it's  to be the  salt bath treatment. Thanks
  14. Timbo I want to pick that brain of your, I have two Hi Model batteries 3s 2200ma 20c  which are showing signs of 'puffyness'. I do not like the idea of charging them again. Are they still useable?.  Neither  have ever been pushed anywhere near their  20c rating.
  15. I use   Isopropyl alcholol, purchased from any good chemist, but use in a well venterlated area. After which any parts of the model which might have suffered fuel contamination I would give one or two  coats of thin cyno. The tissue I would then pierce in may places with a darning needle to save bubbling under the film. Best of luck with the covering
  16. Thanks birdy,       Thought I was missing out on a new  EDF
  17. Hi Guys,   I  didn't realize Tony had produced the Lightning, it is an EDF, or a pusher? If an EDF will not the cone deprive the air flow and create unwanted air turbulence due to the flat base of the cone??
  18.       Answer..............we will all have to take up GLIDING, in the past I have enjoyed many an hour at Ivinghoe Beacon, Bucks.......only 15mins from home.
  19. I know 2.4 is the new boy in town , but I went 2.4  (DX7) as I have now gone all electric, and as David stated, it removes the fear of unwanted glitches. I'm sure that 35meg will be around for many years yet. As for prices we shouldn't  have any moans these days. The range on offer is collossal and should suit all pockets, in fact in real terms the cost is only a fraction of what it was, considering in the late 60's, early 70's one single servo cost about a weeks wage, well it did if you worked as a postman (GPO) . ,
  20. J.B. Thank you for the enlightenment. I was beginning to think I had an outfit out of the norm. Regards    TW
  21. Hi Guys, After reading Shaun's thread I'm a little perplexed about his being  just a  Heli version. Did they make 3 versions, Heli,      Aero,    and as mine, duel version DX7 Heli / Aero???
  22. Thanks Timbo, very encouraging, This old 'sceptic' would rather sort  chaff from the straw whilst still on terra firma, and not rely on the wind once airbourne. Cheers TW
  23. Timbo just a thought. I wonder of the fantasic range you obtain with  the AR6100E is due to the height you must be standing, and the location you are flying, out over the sea. It would be interesting if anyone flying at Ivinghoe Beacon with the same receiver experiences the same result.
  24. Well done the Warbird Team  of TJD Models. A very impressive show concidering the conditions.              Distance doesn't do them justice,  seeing them flying was a the first for me. I  was quite surprised by their size when parked outside the trade stand.....
