  1. Thanks Bob , it just gets rid of that nagging doubt that there could be something that helps better. Great;  i'll stick with my MkIII and press on with my flying. Not worried about downwind flying, I now just get more  speed up going downwind and power through that bottom turn into wind .I think my Super Air was knocked about due to not enough speed on the start of an upwind turn. Not low enough to tip stall, but enough to be thrown from a right bank turn, over to a left bank,  which got me a little worried, and messed up my landing, thinking I had aileron problems. In normal conditions ,I do fly the Super Air OK, and is the normal plane I fly with.   Edited By Max50 on 01/04/2014 10:39:27 Edited By Max50 on 01/04/2014 10:41:23
  2. Thanks rich and john. With only flying solo for 1year, still learning on plane choice and conditions and wing loading .A club member said his Super Chipmunk with a higher wing loading was a good wind flyer at 63inch span , so maybe i'll just push on with my MkIII . Was flying my Super Air in gusting conditions and was knocked about a bit; I think because I was not pushing on, so reverted back to my MkIII but kept the speed up, and was a lot better. As you see , still learning, but I thought I would ask about the XL.
  3. Paul with regard to wind flying. I'm flying my WOT4 MkIII at the moment, and was wondering; people say a larger plane is easier to fly; so would a WOT4 XL handle strong wind better than the MkIII, and be smoother to fly in it, or should i just keep practicing with my MkIII in higher wind strengths. I normally fly in winds up to 15mph with stronger gusts, but anything more and i don't fly. I can see you had a WOT4 XL, and was wondering wether to buy one, as there's a lot of wind at my flying site.
  4. John, it sounds like we should be taking tips from you. Growing attendances; great atmosphere, sounds good.
  5. Wait until you retire, then you can forget about BST, and enjoy yourself every day. Well nearly.
  6. If you have the latest BMFA News, a write up on page 28, " A burning issue smoulders on " says "The suggestion that disposal should be preceded by degradation in a bucket of salt water is not now recommended." . The process adds lithium salts to the water, and if disposed into the drainage system is likely to affect the work of our water authorities who use Lithium as a trace element when locating leaks . Read it to get more info. Two pages worth. It's nice to see more information like this coming out, and an organisation like the BMFA giving a write up on it. I liked the BMFA News before, but i now enjoy it even more. ' Singing off the same hymn sheet comes to mind ' as giving us the latest information on what to do gives us guidance.

    What Wot 4?

I passed my 'A' last May and built a Mk3 last September. The Classic has a 52" wingspan like the ARTF and a parrallel cord. My Mk3 has a 56" span and tapered wing, powered by an OS 55ax .Like BEB said, it's nice to have that extra power when you need it, like on windy days flying into wind. You can always reduce that throttle, but you can't get more when the engine is already flat out. The stall seems none existent, ( haven't stalled it at all; not like my Super Air on an engine cut while landing )fly's like my WOT4 ARTF, still floats on very low throttle. The only thing with builds is that you still have to make a few trips back to your LMS for something that's not in the kit, that you've forgotten about, (not like ARTF's). Covering can be a little bit tricky, like on wing tips if you haven't done it before, and make sure the fusilage formers are in their correct positions for a straight build. It fly's great when built, but does take some time to finish, if like me you forget those little things that are not in the kit, and your LMS is now a 45 minute drive away.
  8. The Seagull fieldbox raised the plane around 1ft 7in and it's 10.25 inches wide. Stable enough, and high enough for me. Good height for refuelling, and i can get it easily in the car.Holds all my tools, fuel, starter, cables and charger. You can see it on theJPerkins site. As i've said, they've been a bit mean with the glue on the drawers. I've put extra on mine and they have now held on.At the moment, i'm happy with mine.Had it for 6 months, but i dont start the plane on the fieldbox.I just use it to work on, and assemble the plane, plus refuelling. The GreatMate was good for the heli, but being 5ft 6in, starting the plane was a bit uncomfortable at my height, and i didn't like the idea of a prop spinning around at midrift point with other people walking around. Prefer it on the ground restrained. Edited By Max50 on 08/03/2014 07:36:51
  9. I use the Seagull field box. It raises the model up for assembling and fuelling, but then i still use a restraint on the ground to start the model. You have to epoxy the drawer fronts,as two of mine pulled off. Easy to transport, and works well. I do have a GreatMate which i bought for Heli use, and it was ideal, but i never used it for planes, only once. By the time you assembled all the kit that came with it, plus i had to carry an extra bag in the car with all the bits; i,d rather be in the air flying . Took a lot of space and too much trouble.Better to have an extra plane in the car, than the stand. Use it now; at home , mainly as a model work table and a help in building and assembling models. Every time you went flying, it was like you were going on holiday. That's why i went with the Seagull. Keep it simple.
  10. I hope he hasn't got woodworm . John M ,i read your posts so you're not alone.
  11. I love band wagon jumping . BEB ; i love The Open , watch it from 9:00 - 7:30 each day, but just been once to Southport to see it. Played golf , until my knees went. Plummet, i like watching the Tour de France in HD on the tv, but would not spend all day waiting at the road side just to see the bikes wiz past in just 5mins, and Oulton Park was my favorite place to go, watching those bikes and cars wiz around. But it's only for a few days Plummet; get energetic and do some gardening in the sunshine (when it comes) , or get in that shed and do some kit bashing. As the song goes " Always look on the bright side of life --------whistle, whistle, whistle " And no-one say HUMBUG.!
  12. I use a lipo glo-stick. Very reliable, and a light on the charger that comes with it, goes off when it's fully charged . Never had it fail on me at the field. But i still have a power panel (without pump, as i prefer the hand pumps ), as a back-up just in-case, and it's also there to top up the rx battery if needed.
  13. I think the mistake here is that they have charged the card before asking for details. I would have thought you would check these details first before doing so. I've ordered from FastLad years ago,and they were great then.
  14. Same as karl. Still watching but haven't been flying for weeks. I think i'm hybernating.
  15. Have a look at " Batteries - a burning issue " in the latest BMFA News, page 49.
  16. Staples stock the " Really usefull boxes ". Use to have them for my heli and aircraft spares and misc, but then my local store closed. Still on-line though.
  17. At the moment i keep my lipos in lipo bags ,all together, and stored in a metal toolbox , and in the house. The only other place is an old garage which is cold and damp and separate from the house. Should i still keep them in the house, or buy a cabinet and store them in the garage with the car? .I have about 10 in the box at the moment but maybe getting more. Where do you all keep your lipos ? . Like ; model shops, i assume keep theirs together in their store rooms in the shop, in maybe the centre of towns. Thanks Dave for the Denbigh Army Surplus link. Very usefull.
  18. Masher got in before me. That's what's so exciting about this hobby. You're learning and trying to improve all the time. Always something new.
  19. For me , the detail is fine Peter. It is a forum for reading and asking questions if not sure. At the moment i can't put in to practice what you've outlined, due to this weather, but i've got the thread bookmarked, so i can start from the begining again when the weather improves. Thanks for this topic and help; Peter. I'll be still reading if not practicing. Mal.
  20. Support your local LMS as much as you can. If you call in regular for those little items, they soon get to know you. I miss my local LMS. I want some enya no.3's for spare at the moment, which would be a 15 min journey to pick up, and have a chat. ( always seem to spend a min of 30mins at the shop buying and chatting , even for small stuff ). Now it's a 45min journey each way to my not so local LMS. So now i seem to wait for ages before i will go; getting put off by the petrol i use, just for a little part. ( I hate sending off for small amounts on the Web - don't know why ). Use them or loose them.

    Model Restraints

I use a ready made ' U ' shaped tail restraint that i bought at one of the shows. ( I think it was under £10 ). It's the first thing i get out when flying.I've also thought about purchasing an airopult if i get larger models,to save stretching over a large prop. It restrains front and back movement. A pit box wouldn't stop it spining out at full throttle if by accident, and a tail restraint would show you are thinking about safety when you connect up your flight battery. You can't restrain and connect up a battery at the same time. (unless you had a helper).
  22. Lemming +1. No accidents , but these cliffs are getting a bit to highiiiiiiiiiiii! BOUNCE, bounce, CRUNCH, AOoow.
  23. Fly thumbs with a neck strap, but may try finger and thumbs on a tray as PJ's suggestion .Been following his aerobatic thread.
  24. I've been using 4 cell eneloop/nimh 2000mah with my R6 for a couple of months now , using 5 servos with no problems, but using a DS16. Mal.
  25. Peter . I don't know if I'm jumping ahead. You've done C of G, but what about lateral balance. I've got a speed air with a thumping big exhaust, (slight exaggeration ) sticking out one side, which I assume would throw the balance out laterally. How do you do it. Do you just hang it up by a piece of string front and rear, or do you do something more accurate.
