Tim Morton
At the risk of showing how ignorant I am... I've just had delivery of a new FG8 but it has a sprung centred throttle stick. I couldn't find any reference to what do you do about it in the users manual. I'd hate to open it up and damage something so I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks Tim
BB
Tim are you saying that at rest the throttle stick is at the centre point ! That the 'rachet' stick is on the other stick ? If you are ! then you've ordered the wrong combo. I.E - mode 1 or 2 ? BB. Don't despair, making the changes is easy. Open the back, swap rachet. Close back. Switch on and by the menu screen choose the coresponding mode 1 or 2 or 3 or 4. Simples ! BB
Tim Morton
Hi BB both sticks are centred and sprung - like mode 2 but on both sticks. I'll open it up and have a look. cheers tim
John Privett
I thought the instructions on making the physical changes to alter the mode were in the instruction manual for my 7C transmitter, but having checked, the answer is a little more subtle than that! The manual states that the "mechanical changes must be done by a service center [sic]"However an extra loose sheet at the front of the manual, supplied by Ripmax, gives detailed instructions - with pictures - on how to make the mechanical adjustments. I wonder if there's a similar loose sheet available for the FG8 manual? You might find that you're short of the ratchet mechanism though, as it's normally swapped over from one stick to the other. Stephen Grigg
Ive the Futaba 8FG and mines not like that.I think you need to send it back or talk to the supplier. My left stick is on a ratchet
Martin Harris - Moderator
On all Futaba transmitters`I've had dealings with, the spring centring is disabled by a projection on the cover plate on the back of the stick unit which is swapped to the other stick to change modes. Perhaps yours is loose or fitted wrongly?
mal brewer
Hi Tim, I've just bought a Futaba FG8 and mine also was set-up with both sticks 'sprung-centered'. I thought I'd got the 'friday afternoon' set, however it would appear they are all set up like that. It was corrected in the shop literally within 2 minutes,a very simple procedure, which entails removing the rear of the set,and re-positioning the throttle ratchet....................Mal. Tim Morton
All done - fixed. It was actually quite simple and quick to do: Remove the battery and then the back cover undo the two screws holding square plastic plate remove the spring and little slide assy from the throttle side put the plastic plate back rotating 90deg replace the back cover and batteryall done
Allan Levi
I had exactly this problem. Just purchased a Futaba 8FG Tx. Both sticks were centred and sprung. Opened it up, and saw the plastic plate on back of left hand stick assembly. I agree with the fix Tim Morton has described. Except I turned the silver metal strip on the back of the plastic plate by 90 degrees, and put the plastic plate back on. The plastic plate can only be turned itsef, because of the screw holes, by 180 degrees. I also agree that the small spring assembly for the throttle stick, needs to be removed. I am AMAZED there is no mention in the manual of how the set up this ratchet. Many people will be left confused, and be ringing the dealer or Ripmax. Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
I suspect Futaba leave this for the local dealer to do - that way Futaba just make trannies and don't worry about modes and they (the locals) can just order trannies and not have to worry about the balance between modes 1 and 2 they need. As every tranny can be made mode 1 or mode 2, as you say, in a couple of minutes it saves a lot of admin and potentail hassle. In my case the dealer (Steve Webb) had obviously done their homework becuase my 8FG was preset as mode 2. It would seem that your dealer hasn't done this - either becuase he doesn't know or because he's "leaving the choice to you" - aka too lazy?!. Tim Morton
Enjoy it Jo - I must say still find the manual a little bit confusing and it doesn't help that the Tx is not as intuitive as the older Futaba sets - but it's a very comfortable TX to use and now I've got used to it I enjoy it
