Simon Chaddock
Yes, a truly wonderful and realistic sound but isn't it almost getting beyond being a 'model'?
Reno Racer
Simon, I agree, especially when you see the price of those engines. 2500 Euros!, oh if i had the money

Klippy
Wonderful, and awe inspiring, it tells me there are still true modellers out there.
Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
Most excellent but I can't help thinking that it might be slightly over the 82dBA limit..... Interesting thats its an inline 3 cylinder too....I bet cooling that rear cylinder is challenging to say the least.....
Reno Racer
It absolutely must be less than 82dB, German's are sticklers for this and you must have a DFMV (German BFMA) card for all IC (glow and petrol) models with the offical test results in, before you are allowed to fly them. You be surprised sometimes how quiet some engines are, My ASP 91 FS Corsair, running a 14x6 Master Airscrew on 15% nitro is max 71dB (front 45 degree measurement). Haven't yet tested my tuned pipe 2 strokes or 26cc petrol That P-51 does sound loud through, maybe its low level grunt loud!!
Peter Miller
That sort of noise travels a long way, a very long way. Eevn if it is below 82 Db at 7 meters wheich I doubt, the moise will be very clear well over a mile away.
Martin Harris - Moderator
The Germans may well be sticklers for 82 dB but it's measured at something like 20 metres (or at least it was about three years ago) when I flew at a club near Koln. They certainly weren't interested in doing any noise tests on my OS52 FS or 15CVA engined models! There were many Spitfires downed by our hosts over the weekend - but they were the product of Shepherd Neame's brewery, not Supermarine!
