It absolutely must be less than 82dB, German's are sticklers for this and you must have a DFMV (German BFMA) card for all IC (glow and petrol) models with the offical test results in, before you are allowed to fly them.

You be surprised sometimes how quiet some engines are, My ASP 91 FS Corsair, running a 14x6 Master Airscrew on 15% nitro is max 71dB (front 45 degree measurement). Haven't yet tested my tuned pipe 2 strokes or 26cc petrolfrown

That P-51 does sound loud through, maybe its low level grunt loud!!

The Germans may well be sticklers for 82 dB but it's measured at something like 20 metres (or at least it was about three years ago) when I flew at a club near Koln. They certainly weren't interested in doing any noise tests on my OS52 FS or 15CVA engined models!

There were many Spitfires downed by our hosts over the weekend - but they were the product of Shepherd Neame's brewery, not Supermarine!
