Colin Leighfield
Happy New Year chaps, it's been great joining in with all of you this year. Let's hope for a good 2015, lots of flying Chipmunks and weather good enough for us all to get loads of flying practice in. (Me in particular)! Eamonn Fahey
Any Chippites on Facebook? THIS page is the 'Irish Historic Flight' community and they are carrying out maintenance/restoration on their Chipmunks with interesting photographs. Looks to be worth watching
Nigel Day
I've finally made it to the fuselage and am about to start. I seem to remember mention of 2mm and 3/32" for sheeting on this model, rather than 1/16". I've used 1/16" for the wing and bought lots of lovely 3/32" for the fuse. Now I check the plan (duh!) and re-read Danny's blog, I see that it's 1/8" for the fuse planking (or sheeting). As I've not got much 1/8" I'd really like to use 3/32". I'm guessing that it won't make too much difference to the strength after covering and not much to the fit with the wing. Am I just being over-optimistic? A.A. Barry
Hi guys, back at after a xmas break and other SMBO doings, I,m at the stage of adding the wing fillets to the Fuz, I have been looking for the "link" to download the build, hoping that will put me straight, I have a new computer and the prevoius one has it, but now it has collapsed, .....so can anyone remember what page the link is on, I've searched 20 of the pages but .. I hope ya all had a safe New Year Cheers Barry
Colin Leighfield
Nice one Eammon. Nigel, you might be, let's see what Danny says. Hi Barry, Happy New Year to you too mate. Let's hope the world doesn't blow up in 2015.
AlexJ
Hi Nigel, I think it is worth using soft 1/8 sheet for the planking. Having recently sanded the fuselage, it really allows you to get stuck in and remove the "starved donkey" appearance, without the worry of leaving too little meat. AlexJ
Oohhh! 100 posts, small celebration Alex
Danny Fenton
Well Nigel i am afraid 1/8 would be better. As others have said it gives more meat to sand. Its fairly flimsy around the cockpit sides even when using 1/8.I managed to use the horn plates as per plan Colin, it was another chippite that used relocated horns.Cheers Danny
Danny Fenton
What exactly are you looking for Barry there are links threads under the Chip shop section?Cheers Danny
A.A. Barry
Danny. Hi, can you steer me in the direction of the build link, that is in the thread ....somewhere, please Barry
Nev
I think Barry might be looking for Nigel's compilation of the wing build, can't help I'm trying to find it again myself.
A.A. Barry
Danny it was the link to a build of the chippy, I'm not sure who built it, but it describes the whole build, I'm trying to add the wing fillets on the fuz Thanks
A.A. Barry
Yea Nev that's the one, I think
A.A. Barry
Danny is it only the wing build that was described? i thought it was the whole model.???... umm has any one ekse got to that part of adding the G3,4 and 5 ??? Barry
Danny Fenton
Hi Barry I cannot find Nigels document either. It was only the wing that Nigel did, though i am sure he could be persuaded into doing a fus one Maybe we need to put the link in the "links" section Hopefully Nigel will be on soon. For build blogs Barry, you will just have to look through everybodys indivdual blogs to see how we did them? My curved piece of ply, G5? went straight into the bin..... I did my fairings around 30/10/2014 Here Cheers Danny
Nigel Day
Hi Barry. Danny's right, I only did a wing blog compilation. I did do an early Chip Shop thread compilation. Maybe there was something in there? Fuse build compilation eh Danny? I still remember some of the 'secretary' wisecracks I got after the wing builds one. As I'm about to start the fuse (well, WAS about to start the fuse), I'll have a look-see.
Nigel Day
Thanks for the answers re the fuse planking thickness chaps. They weren't the one(s) I wanted so are there any others? I'm just going outside to get some 1/8" sheets. I may be some time....... Edited By Nigel Day on 03/01/2015 10:00:
Nigel Day
Where's the Links section Danny? I can see a thread for photo links.
Danny Fenton
LOL only if you have time Nigel I think the wing was the toughy, and those fairings. Just remember if the fairings look right then they are.....sod the plan! Did I really just say that
