Mike Smith
I have just had to buy a replacement motor shaft for my Airtek Exel 3542 brushless outrunner. In taking apart the motor, the circlip (which is extremely fine) broke. Unfortunately Airtek do not supply replacement circlips to fit these so I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can get such a thing. The shaft is 4mm diameter but where the circlip sits there is a fine groove. It's so fine that I'm unable to take an accurate measurement with callipers but I estimate it to be about 3.5mm in diameter and no more than 0.6mm thick. The outer diameter of the original circlip was no more than 5mm so it's really quite dinky. I have been told that the circlip is not strictly necessary, but I always take the view that if the manufacturer saw fit to include it, there must be a valid reason to have it. Wingman
Try here Mike - 3mm x 0.5mm - beware minimum order value. Edited By Wingman on 29/07/2014 16:45:
Mowerman
If you are fitting the prop adaptor on the shaft then the circlip is not strictly necessary. If you are using the type of adaptor that fits to the motor case then it is essential.
PatMc
I think it's desirable in both cases in order that the bearing doesn't work loose.
kc
GiantShark sell a circlip that might be the same ( or it might not! ) but it's worth a try if you can find other items to make the postage worthwhile.

Martin Whybrow
Also worth looking out for a kit of circlips, I have one and it goes to very small sizes.
gliggsy
Another quick solution is to roll a few strands of copper wire together, enough to be proud of the shaft and then tie them into the circlip groove then finish off by touching with the soldering iron.....g
