Lower than a snakes belly in a wagon rut

Let me tell you of a classic low pass at RAF Wattisham in 63. No picture.

We had a visit by Venezuelan top brass and as part of the visit they were treated to a display in an EE Lightning by the late "Bugs" BUndell. The last part was a high speed pass between the control tower and our (41 Sqdn) hangar. Unfortunately Bugs must have miss judged his speed a bit.

The result was a gigantic BANG and several of the big polarised glass windows in the tower shattered showering the VIPs with glass.

The windscreen on a fire engine parked there disintegrated.

Our line hut, an ex Prefab house, had the roof lift, the wall came in by about a foot and the roof came back down, all the light fittings crashed down.

Everyone in the hangar was convinced and aircraft had actually hit the hangar the bang and shock was so strong

Bugs circled round and landed and taxied in to where a Land Rover was waiting to take him to the tower where the station commander was standing on the steps waiting for him.

Bugs was due to leave the station the next day anyway
