will -0
Hi, I'm part way through building (well finishing off) a priory models reflection biplane (Wasn't on the build plan, but the box it came in reeked of cigarette smoke so that had to go and then as the thing seems to be mostly built anyway it seemed rude not to finish it off ). Anyway, for those not familiar, the fuz is balsa below with a grp turtle deck over. Any suggestions on covering? I'd love to just solar film it,, but i've no idea if it'll take to the GRP or not. Martin McIntosh
You may be able to film it if you use a little water with a couple of drops of washing up liquid but depending on the shape it could be difficult. Why not paint the GRP with Solarlac which will exactly match the film colour?

Andy Meade
Pete Garsden has great success solarfilming lost-foam glass fibre fuselages, so I'd be tempted to give it a go Pics are here showing the finish
will -0
Okay, but what about the join? TBH, if I've got to paint the thing anyway I may as well tissue and dope the rest of the fuz, but I was hoping to avoid that due to the time and expense! Bob Cotsford
I've used film on simple curved items like the Acrowot turtledeck, but it is nigh on impossible to do it without including a few bubbles and it is prone to lifting. I think that it will never look as good as a decent paint finish but will be ok from a couple of yards if you can do it without overheating and distorting the grp. A wipe with Prymol might be worth trying to get a better bond with less heat. Edited By Bob Cotsford on 28/09/2015 15:31:
ROY DAVIES 1
Add a cheat line with trim tape.
Allan Bennett
I used Solarfilm on my XtraWot's fibreglass deck, and it hasn't shown any sign of bubbling or lifting. It even survived a battery hatch being cut into it when I converted it to electric. I painted the exposed cut edges when I did that.
