Mark Elen
Tonight's progress. Front front doublers sanded to profile. Rear doublers cut out, curves cut and impact glued to Fuz sides. Sanded to profile and now the real building starts. Cheers Mark

Mark Elen
Thanks John. I'm trying really hard to make this more accurately than the last one. I'm looking forward to getting onto my favourite part of any build, the wings. I know a lot of people dislike building wings, but to me, that's the most satisfying bit. 😀 Cheers Mark
john stones 1 - Moderator
I enjoy the wing most as well, you'll enjoy this one

Mark Elen
Really enjoying this Fuz build. I'm going with bass wood for the rear stringers. I started with superphatic, but soon switched to cyano, made things go much easier. Cheers Mark
Mark Elen
Bit more done tonight. Still got to final sand the rear of the Fuz down, but it's coming together and I'm really enjoying this build. Cheers Mark
Peter Miller
Very neat. There is nothing like building except flying on a perfect sunny, calm day. Wait till you seemy next build.
Mark Elen
Thank you Peter. I'm looking forward to seeing what you are building now. My dislike of building fuselages has well and truly been shattered with this one. Lots of interesting bits to fettle and fit. Peter Miller
Go and look at my new album "Destiny". I have put the small view of the plans on there!
Mark Elen
Hi Peter, That looks very nice. A little more done today. Cheers Mark
Peter Miller
Looking very nice Lookng at your pictufres I realise that dong the stringer before the Rolled sheet makes for a much simpler and neater job. Just got in from flying and now thawing out
Mark Elen
Hi Peter, The only reason I did it this way was because I didn't read your build notes about rolling the sheet before the stringers. Looking at it, it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. Regards Mark
john stones 1 - Moderator
That makes a dozen then...they all look very tidy to me Never used Bass as stringer before, it a little lighter than spruce you think ? John
Mark Elen
Hi John, In the small amounts used for this, I don't think there is much in it. I will get the scales out this week and have a measure, but my reasoning was because I'm going to go with transparent covering on this section and the bass is much more 'balsa' looking than spruce. Cheers Mark
Mark Elen
Oops, I need to get the scales out. I'll do that later in the week. A little more done tonight. Horizontal stab cut from sheet and glued together. Middle 12 inches is medium, grain side to side, 4 inches at each tip is medium, grain front to back and rear 3/4 is hard strip. Hopefully this will not warp....
Peter Miller
I doubt if that could warp!!
Mark Elen
Hi Peter, It's probably overkill and a bit OTT, but as long as I cut it out accurately, the joint lines will give me a good reference point to use for alignment when it comes to gluing it in place. I'll use my usual 'cut it slightly oversize, then sand back to finish' method that I find easiest / most accurate. Cheers Mark
onetenor
Try Obeche for stringers next time
Mark Elen
Hi All, Today I've done the one bit of the fuselage build that I really wasn't looking forward to, the rear block fillets. I decided to make up a sacrificial fin/horizontal stab that could be pinned in place, whilst the blocks were glued onto F10, then I sanded the whole lot to shape and removed the sacrificial piece ready for the final assemblies to be glued in. This worked really well. I spent quite a bit of time checking and double checking the seat was level and the fin was lined up. Photos show this better than my description... john stones 1 - Moderator
Can't fault that work Mark John
Mark Elen
Thanks John, I've ordered one of those fancy sanding blocks that Peter mentions today from the States. It's a real shame Permagrit don't do a small 6mm / 1/4" half round internal block to make a neat semicircular section for tail leading edges. I'll cut out the tail pieces, then get on with engine mounting and throttle pushrod, then I can make up the cowl whilst I await its arrival.
