Which engine

Just sent off for the David Boddington 60 inch Bleriot XI plans for 0.30 glow engines but I was thinking of putting a 4 stroke in it. Ive narrowed the field down to the APS 30 FS or the ASP 52 FS. Many years ago I seem to remember someone saying to me that when using 4 strokes go up in cc because they dont have the poke of a 2 stroke. Is this still the case? Would appreciate any information please. Just done some research and found that the PAW 29 which is on the plans weighs in at 300g and the ASP 30 FS weighs in at 275g and the ASP 52 FS is 455g. Many thanks, Peter

I have an old Boddington Bleriot XI I am restoring and thought about fitting a 4 stroke for a better sound. However there was just not enough length in the cowl to fit one without the prop shaft sticking out to far or having to butcher the bulkhead which I did not want to do so two stroke it stays. However as a new build you can no doubt modify yours to make room.

The difference between modern two and four strokes is not as much as with early four strokes but it is still normal to fit a bit larger capacity. John.

Hi Pete,

The ASP 30 has flown similar models for me on both a 9 x 5 and 9 x 6 props, importantly using 10% Nitro mix. These small motors take about an hour to run in and to achieve the 9000 - 10000 revs claimed, as 8000 is more like it when new.

Also the tick over when new is far too high around 3000, you cannot land as it flys by you.

when run in, your motor should tick over around 2300 for landings

It does run adequately on straight fuel, but I have found with modern synthetic fuels with 10%, have all my 4 strokes running well.

As you discovered, the 4 strokes are bigger but well worth the modifications, simply moving the bulkhead back
