Dom (Essential RC)
Another treat from the Bickley MFC "Electric" Day...a super Hawker Tempest sounding like the real deal with its Bendini Sound System...
Stevem3akm
I'm not a fan of electrics generally, I prefer I/c, but a model like that could possibly persuade me. That is truly impressive. Brilliant. Regards Steve
Colin Leighfield
What a brilliant model and quite a feat capturing the unique "ripping" sound of the 24 cylinder Napier Sabre. Will it ever be possible to get adequate volume of sound this way though? It was said to be a very noisy beast.
Josip Vrandecic -Mes
Convincing sound and effective take-off in just 5 seconds. Thanks Dom Jo
Essjay
Excellent flying and sound. I think I'm right in saying this is being flown and was built by the very talented John Ranson. I think I'm also right in saying he built a very nice Hornet, again with the sound system, a few years ago. MattyB
Posted by Colin Leighfield on 13/05/2016 08:48:58: What a brilliant model and quite a feat capturing the unique "ripping" sound of the 24 cylinder Napier Sabre. Will it ever be possible to get adequate volume of sound this way though? It was said to be a very noisy beast. I have a MRRCSounds system and can testify it is extremely loud - up to 90 Db! The issue though is that the sound is a) very directional (though some of that is now being addressed by the use of transducers rather than speakers in the latest systems - these are particularly effective in foam models) and b) dies away much faster with range than an IC engine. I'm not quite sure why the second point occurs (maybe it is just a bi-product of the directionality?), but it's definitely the case and I'm not sure it will be easy to solve without the sound systems becoming too loud at close ranges. Would love to be proved wrong though!
Danny Fenton
John has done a raft of great models all with Benedini sound systems. The Hornet was nice but I still prefer his Mosquito. John is a great modeller. He is currently building a 104" P-38 Lightning, electric of course the build is here Cheers Danny
Darrell Woodward
I'm not sure about the sound (I've never heard a Napier Sabre irl), but boy-o-boy it's got that 'Heavy Metal Aura' in spades.
Colin Leighfield
There are videos on Youtube from war-time film of the Typhoon and Tempest and you can hear the sound of the Sabre on these. It's very distinctive. It made a lot of noise , (or none at all on the not rare occasions when it broke down)! If ever there was a fiendish engine, that was it.
