David perry 1
I'm looking at the hyper flight vario offering but at 180 quid I could almost replace my fifteen year old ff9 with new taranis gear and vario. What varios do people use these days? I asked a similar question a year ago but the lack of response makes me wonder whether people use varios at all ThanksDavid

Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
And most can tell you your altitude above a start position as well. David - have posted this info in your other thread, along with a discussion on the merits (as I see them anyway!) of the various actual and expected FrSky Tx's. John Privett
I've got the FrSky 'normal' precision vario mentioned on the Taranis thread in one of my gliders. For me it does exactly what I want from it and at £12 is a bargain! I'm not sure how much better the 'high' precision one is, but even that's only another £8 or so extra! I set mine up on a three-position switch on the Taranis. Centre is off, up gives a spoken altitude above the launch point (repeated every 30 seconds) and down gives the 'beep, beep, beep' up/down tones - earpiece recommended to avoid driving your fellow-flyers nuts! Frank Skilbeck
Go to an aerotow meeting and you'll see (hear ) lots of varios in use to assist in keeping in those elusive thermals. I use the Multiplex system with MPX, SM Modelbau and Aerobtec Altis sensors and have recently made some using an arduinio board and program from Open Sensor
