Martian
Well not posted any updates on here for a couple Months but I have been busy honest, all parts are made fuselage wings control surfaces etc etc, here are some pics of all the bits still lots to do first I will align the wings to fuse and tailplane, then concentrate on fitting out the wings with servos control surfaces and nav lights also landing lights these will come on when the uc is lowered a small micro switch . Martin McIntosh
Lots of work in it isn`t there. I operated my nav. lights with a servo operated switch teed into the retract channel. Much simpler than a micro switch. This turns on a simple home made light strobe device. Using the same idea on my latest model with updated circuitry and wide angle LED`s from The Component Shop. Since the retracts and doors are very similar to the Mossie I have found an easier way to open and close them using springs instead of elastic. Martian
Yes Martin lots of work little progress. The micro switch is to switch on the landing lights when uc is operated down , I'm leaving the nav lights on w hen plane is powered up. I'm just of now to search for latest build 😀
Geoff Gardiner
That's all coming together nicely Martian. I'm still stuck at the 'making the nacelles' phase
Martian
Posted by Geoff Gardiner on 12/02/2017 18:38:11: That's all coming together nicely Martian. I'm still stuck at the 'making the nacelles' phase have to say they are time consuming and I made mine a little deeper to accommodate the wheels so I didn't have to muck about after.. To bend the balsa I used a small steam cleaner ,it was heat bend glue and repeat for the next bit. Have to say mr McIntosh did a wonderful job on his so thats my bench mark

Martian
Had a break from this to build my Piper cub I got a little stuck with uc doors I had made them the recommended way as per the plan and hollowed them out but I just didn't like them they looked to chunky and all though I know Martin did an excellent job making fibreglass doors it was a no go for me I build in the house and would have caused an instant building ban by swmbo, After having a long think I opted to build the doors much like the bomb bay doors , a central spine and formers from lite ply then planted at least the carved doors came in useful to make the formers using the shape after slicing it up anyway piccies below. One thing that is taxing me is hinging the doors so please help with ideas.
Martin McIntosh
Hi Martian, The u/c doors were the biggest headache for me. Epoxy resin has virtually no smell so should not bother `er indoors too much. Due to the shape I had to place two hinges near the centre at about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4" appart. This was the point when I gave up with the BT version. Martian
Thanks for the reply Martin it certainly is frustrating I've tried various hinges trying to replicate the fullsize Mossie but just can't overcome the binding on opening the door seems even a cyano hinge will have to be right at the edge it just feels all a bit flimsy same problem with the bomb doors except I don't have to have them opening on a hinge
Martin McIntosh
See if these pics help. The hinges are pinned and about 1/2" wide.

Martian
Hello as promised some pics showing where i am now, I'm not entirely happy with the finish I'm achieve but filling sanding filling sanding is becoming a chore, The fuselage is glassed with 25g cloth with poly c . I made life a little more difficult for myself wanting to do F for Freddie B35 version which has a scoop under the nacelle I had made the nacelle doors the recommended way but wasnt happy so decided to use former and planking anyway judge for yourselves ,
Martin McIntosh
Lots of work there then. If glassing, I would now use epoxy and peel ply. Very much less rubbing down and no filler required. Tried the water based stuff but it just does not stick the cloth down properly. Anyway, a great looking job so far.
Martian
Thanks Martin I appreciate that ,the finishing feels never ending and I'm itching to start another build
Geoff Gardiner
Coming along nicely Martian. You are quite a bit ahead of me as I got distracted with my 3D printer and repairing my Spitfire. Will hopefully get back to the Mosquito in the next week or so.
Martian
Thanks Geoff I was tempted with a 3d printer but need to learn CAD first ,I may commision you for exhaust stubs lol
Martian
Attempting to do some detailing I used 2mm ali tape to create the cockpit framing using 2 layers because the Bryant canopy has barely visible lines it doesnt look to bad the tape was buffed with a small block of soft balsa rubbed briskly to heat up with friction and also to burnish to tape and i have also had a go at rivits using an empty revell poly glue container the bore of the outlet needle is tiny I filled it with Gorilla pva glue I have a problem with handshake so it isnt as good as i had hoped anyway I'm masking of now to apply paint I have also cut wider ali tape for the bomb aimers nose cone. All the plane has now been glassed with 25gram glass cloth using poly c then used a old credit card tpo spread lighhtweight filler into the weave after I had applied 2 coats of Valspar .
