Jukka Eskelinen
Hi, Just started full composite Brewster project. Have been studying composites hard way about decade now. Finally bought a vacuum pump and that made me much better with composites. 10 years getting all the information from this rare plane. Tikkakoski museum is 140km away from home and there is BW-372. Trying to make so accurate as possible this time. Been hitting my head on wall many times with Brewster. Its finally getting easier with all the info. Been flying smaller Brewsters several times and its truly nice flying plane with no bad habbits. 1/8 scale honeycomb Brewster weights only 1600grams, so its extremely light. Some pics from it. This bigger plane will be monster with124inch/314cm span. DA-170 reserved for power. Radial would be nice but is so expensive for me at this point, maybe later.. More from this soon! Cheers -Jukka- 1/8 scale honeycomb Brewster 2nd flight. DA-170 fits nicely inside cowl.
Colin Leighfield
That's a great project Jukka, I look forward to watching your thread. A plane that turned out to be amazingly successful for the Finns and against all expectations had a very high kill ratio against Russian flown Hurricanes. A model of it as big as that is going to have quite a presence.
Jukka Eskelinen
Thank Colin! Just loving that chubby shape of Brewsters. The kill ratio was truly remarkable, highest at finnish service, Fiat G50 and Bf-109-g2-g6 came close. Pilot skills were high because only best pilots got Brewsters. One thing was the cyclone engine was reliable and service crew very skilled also. Pilots loved Brewster, it was easy to fly and manouvrable. Following pilots lost the planes if trying stay after tight turning BW. Many times fights were at low altitude under clouds. This chubby plane will be easier to see on grey sky. -Jukka-
Jukka Eskelinen
https://vimeo.com/62418824 Most challenging part is the gear. Have done 2 smaller set, so it can be done. Made this drawing notes few years ago. Now i have small lathe and mill (manual) so it will be more doable. Upper legs will be carbon like in video. Colin Leighfield
I wondered how you might tackle that. It's certainly beyond my engineering capability!
Jukka Eskelinen
Its not so difficult as it looks at 1st. Jig must be done to get main leg angles correct. Then its very simple.Only hard work. Some pics from blueprint details. There is 3 different sized rivets. Going to cover the plug with lithoplate so tools needs to be made. Took 30minutes. Stripes tell me the size of the rivet. Sample rivets in pic. Cheers -Jukka-
Jukka Eskelinen
Before lithoplates need to build tailcone area. Rudder plug 1st for perfect match. Ron 'Potato' Jeremy (not so micro pig) wasnt interested to inspect rudder plug. Was busy eating mämmi (traditional finnish easter dessert). Happy Easter! -J- Edited By Jukka Eskelinen on 13/04/2017 06:49:

Jukka Eskelinen
Jeremy says 'Oink!' Thanks! Tooks some time transfer lines from blueprint to rudder. Test fitting with wood pcs and tape. Everything looks to be on place. Edited By Jukka Eskelinen on 13/04/2017 11:39:

Jukka Eskelinen
Thanks! Tailcone lithoplate covered. This is one of the hardest parts to work with.

Chris Freeman 3
Very nice workmanship, I will be watching the progress on this. The long cold winters do have an advantage when it comes to projects like this
Jukka Eskelinen
Indeed Chris. Weather forecast promising 10cm snow in next 24 hours. Spring from hell.. Perfect for building.. Cheers -Jukka-

Jukka Eskelinen
More plates on plug. My friend has started working with rim and gear 3d-model. There might be 3d-printed alloy rim and gear..
