Tom Thomas
I think I will put a coat of epoxy on the nose as it's quite soft, and I'll spray the nose instead covering it, easier.
Tom Thomas
Well it's nearly there now. The tail is just pinned on in these pics, I shaped the elavator off plan as I want to keep as much pitch control as possible. I'll post another pic when I've cut the ailerons and covered it as I feel like I'm shouting into a gale here.
onetenor
Nice work Sir ! Should slope well.
Tom Thomas
Started covering, sprayed the nose and the canopy. You'll notice that I'm using a full size iron, I usually use a travel iron, always have, but it broke .... The big iron actually very light. My other tools I've always used are a Stanley knife instead of modelling knives, blades are cheap and it does just as good a job, I also buy cheap sandpaper and glue it to a couple of different shapes and it works well also. in the early days I spent money on specialist modelling stuff, but have realised that there are so many cheap alternatives and I save money! Tom Thomas
Ailerons cut, just going to use hinge tape.
KiwiKid
Great work Tom - I have been enjoying your build. I am sure you will appreciate the extra control you get from the ailerons.

Tom Thomas
Servos, leads etc turned up today.
Tom Thomas
Have installed the servo extensions in the left wing and covered it. Again the tail is just pinned, need to get around to affixing it. Tell you what, this yellow solar film is like polishing a motion sensitive bomb that you've been asked to polish! There is no temp that it really likes, either doesn't stick or melts instantly! I had a massive hole on the underside that I've patched, found it best to seal the edges and tentatively use the heat gun to shrink, but it makes you sweat!. Tom Thomas
Finally glued the tail on, and put control horns and push rod exits in.
KiwiKid
Looking really good Tom - very flash job. I find my enthusiasm always gets a lift when the end of a project is in sight. I notice you often posting in the wee small hours - what country are you in?
Tom Thomas
Hello mate, I'm in the U.K. Don't sleep well, so I do a bit of building into the small hours. Really looking forward to flying this, it's not the prettiest of models but I like it! I know where you're from, don't ask me how I know Thanks for following it
Tom Thomas
Oh, and I'd like to say that the tail colour is a nod to the name, but I got bored one night and raided the scrap box
Tom Thomas
Servos in the fues, control rods attached to the tail surfaces, well that's after re gluing the tail when it snapped off hitting the floor when it slid off the bench but it did expose a weakness in it that I've now sorted. Tom Thomas
Managed to trim the canopy tonight. Got a much better result than I thought!
Tom Thomas
Tiny update, hinged ailerons and added a bit more covering to the wing, is it ok or have I ruined it?
KiwiKid
Woohoo - nearly there. Looking great - is the bottom of the wing plain yellow?
Tom Thomas
Hey kiwi, I have put a roughly 6 inch panel of black from leading to trailing edge under neath the 2 stripes to help with orientation. to be honest I added the two black arrows because whilst cutting hinges for the right wing I damaged the yellow covering ( don't ask how) but the yellow is so temperamental to use I thought I'd cover the mistake with much easier to use black. please be honest mate, is it too much? KiwiKid
No, not too much. It accentuates the ailerons and has that going forward look to it.
john stones 1 - Moderator
Looks good to me Tom, bold designs work better when it's airborne.
onetenor
That Ninja flyer was very naughty by flying so close to the hang gliders. Re bending is easy if you make it red hot while in the vice .Then quickly adjust to the bending point and bend using a tube as the lever. Adjust using pliers of course. If unsure try with a practice piece first. Good luck.
