Niall Reynolds
Hi guys OK so I have the following in my hangar Bixler Nova 40Eflite timber. After about 15 years of the nova being layer up i got it up and running again.I just love glow engines!!!I am looking to get a new sports model with a glow engine or any engine.I can get a revolver 59 inch for good money airframe only. Would this be a good choice?I would love your recommendation please!!Thanks
Piers Bowlan
Rather than buy an ARTF Niall have though thought of building something from a plan? So many good designs for IC out there (Quick Fly 40 or a Maricardo). Or perhaps a kit, Gangster lite?
extra slim
All super suggestions by Piers
Niall Reynolds
Might be an idea alright.Much involved???
Phil 9
Artf acro wot or escapade 61 (not the small one) or GP ultra sport 46. To build super sportster various sizes available. Or a Chris Olsen upset with a short kit from belair kits
Nigel R
"Much involved???" The odd bit of gluing and sanding and whatnot... Maybe read a few build threads to see if you want to get involved in a build? Some of the new laser cut kits go together pretty quickly, but bank on a fair bit of shop time to get a project in the air. It's all good if you find you like the build process Edited By Nigel R on 07/09/2017 12:55:
Jon Laughton
I would second the Acrowot suggested and warn you away from the Revolver unless you feel your flying skills are above intermediate: its a lovely model but very fast / slippery and the landing speed is quite high as it is not the least 'draggy'. Niall Reynolds
OK so the revolver is out.I guess you could say I am a bit more advanced than a beginner.I think artf is the way to go at the mo.Just a quick question... where I fly there is a short enough runway so is there a model which could handle this??? Nigel R
Acrowot will handle a short grass strip no problem and is a (very) well proven design.
Jon Laughton
An Acrowot will be fine with a short grass strip..

Niall Reynolds
OK I know where to get the wot. Any recs for an engine???
Richard Wills 2
If I had to buy an engine for a new acrowot, it would be an OS 46 or 55 AX. I have a 50 SX in mine I got off ebay, perfect power.
Niall Reynolds
Thanks Richard. I will have a look around.
Niall Reynolds
Could I take the irvine 46 engine out of the nova and put it in the wot
Phil 9
I have a laser 70 in mine and that makes a great combination I think the os 46 would be a bit lacking in power but the 55AX would be good match
Richard Wills 2
A 70 4 stroke would also be ideal I would say, however I would say a decent 46 such as the Irvine would be more than enough, my brother has a 46 FX in his. seeing as you already have it, try it, a 55 would go in on the same bolt holes if you decided you wanted to punch holes in the sky. Phil 9
hanger valiant 10cc might be worth a look also pulse xt60 or 40 size lookin throught the als hobbies site they have quite a few other models that may take your fancy escapade was a favourite of mine Edited By Phil 9 on 07/09/2017 22:18:
Niall Reynolds
OK so it is either the acro wot or the black horse super air. Pros cons for each???
Richard Wills 2
I have only owned the acrowot, but I have flown a super air. Both fly very well. I preferred my acrowot, but how much was due to it being mine and setup for me I don't know. Which one do you like the look of better, for me the Acrowot is a very pretty aeroplane. Nigel R
The irvine 46 would be ideal. "I have a laser 70 in mine and that makes a great combination I think the os 46 would be a bit lacking in power" Erm. I'm pretty sure the Acrowot was designed with a minimum powerplant of a 35 with which it made an ideal first low wing sport model. The whole thing should be about 5lb so a 46 would be more than plenty. The 55AX would be verging on vertical launch territory. And really, it doesn't need absurd power, it isn't a speed or 3d model, it's a thick wing aerobat with good slow speed manners. Also, if a laser 70 makes more power than an OS 46, I'll eat my hat. Nigel R
phil, hope I didn't come across wrong. I'd consider the 46 & 70FS as about equal in power.
Braddock, VC
Unless it's an OS 46 LA, when it fails to meet the rice pudding skin remover requirements. My last one had an OS 91 Fx which fully complied with the above requirements but, tbh, a bit OTT.
