Rich too
With January out of the way (busy at work) I have picked up my tools again. I got the throttle servo installed, and made a start on the rudder controls etc - anyone spot the school boy error?

Rich too
The rudder is hung on a length of wire from the top - this is quite tight so I hope I do not need it removed for transport!
Adrian Smith 1
Good to see you back in harness with this build and your Ultimate too. Hope you get some decent build time in for the foreseeable future. Nice work on the rear of the Sbach - real tidy I must say.
Gary Manuel
Looking good Rich! Still not spotted the schoolboy error though.
Rich too
Thanks gents. There is provision for rudder servos in the fuselage and in the tail, and what I didn’t realise was that there are two positions for the rudder horns! Now, if I want to fit servos in the tail in future, I have the horns already fitted!
Rich too
I got the rudder servos fitted and closed loop done.
Gary Manuel
See what you mean about the extra horns
Rich too
Elevator control horns fitted (holes needed minor drilling out), and servo arms done - the discs required trimming for clearance - I glued the horns to the discs before drilling for nuts and bolts. Fitting the servos into the elevator halves was a challenge! Edited By Rich too on 04/03/2018 14:21:

Adrian Smith 1
I feel your pain, Rich. Servos inset into the elevator halves is a really frustrating job especially trying to feed the servo wires back out the wing. Done it a few times now and still hate the design . I know the other options are to have the servos showing outside the wing/fuselage in other kits, and for the sake of not enduring the grief shown here the unaesthetic look doesn't bother me. Nice job anyway.
Rich too
Its only been 18 months! So time I got back on it. I decided to use an XPS X24 for this project, not least for the electronic servo matching. I needed somewhere to mount it. I only had 1/4 ply available so I used that and put plenty of lightening holes in it.
Rich too
Next I tried out the servo matching on the two rudder servos. After a bit of head scratching, I figured it out and matched the servos - much better than trying to match mechanically.
Rich too
And then another first, I made my own servo extension leads. I made a few mistakes, but got the hang of it - you really need good eyesight for this which I do not have ! I am tempted to use dual rx's rather than rely on my wiring on just one! Adrian Smith 1
Yup, Rich doing your own leads is the way to go. It took me a few goes to perfect it, but you won't look back. When I start my 100 cc project (Extra 35cc) in the next week or two I will be using twin RXs . That's if I can decipher the Futaba manual! Nice to see the Sbach coming along now, she is a great looker. Did you source the XPS X24 from the States? Rich too
Yeah Adrian, I am not going to be comfortable with one RX! I might follow your lead I did order the X24 from the States. I read up on it on the FG forum, there's a huge thread on the unit. One thing on the extension leads, I have trouble getting the pins to click into place in the plastic holders/plugs? john stones 1 - Moderator
I bought the make your own leads kit, not a chance of me coping with it, Gary does a good job mind.
Adrian Smith 1
I know it sounds obvious, Rich but do make sure the pins/sockets are slid into the plastic holder the right round as on one side of the pin/socket fitting there is a tiny flap of metal that springs up once inserted to stop the pin/socket coming back out. Rich too
Yeah, I got that, but I have to use the tip of a mini screwdriver to push them into place. Perhaps I should try another supplier.

Adrian Smith 1
You'll probably find the integrity of of the plastic flaps is knackered using a screw driver to push them up with - they are so flimsy.

I use the screwdriver to give the metal pins a push from behind so shouldn’t damage the plastic.

Rich too
A bit more progress, finished wiring the wings and matching the servos.
