Chris Bott - Moderator
Yes you can use the same version of companion for both radios. You just set up a profile for each. Obviously you have to be careful to use the right backup file for the right radio etc, but that's not difficult.
MattyB
There is one additional reason to go to OpenTX that shouldn't be underestimated - if you do have a problem with FrOS there's only a tiny number of people using it who can help you. I know multiple X10 and X12 owners as well as 50 or 60 X9D owners (which of course can only run OpenTX); literally none of them use FrOS. Contrast that with OpenTX, where the pool of information online is absolutely huge (especially at OpenTXU, RCGroups and Youtube). Most clubs also have at least one or two users you can talk to in person. Both systems are necessarily more complex than a basic 6ch "big brand" TX complex (you couldn't have all that cool functionality without some additional options to choose from), but only one has a huge, vibrant end user support network to help you when you need to improve your understanding. Caveman
Just to add my thoughts.... I'm a Taranis user and I do most of my model setup directly onto the tx, not because I'm against using the Companion, but at the field it's much simpler to make amendments and adjustments without having to resort to a PC. I'm not so sure that I'd find it easy to find my way round the tx menus if I wasn't familiar with them. GDB
r6dan
School boy error, I need to buy an sd card today but did t look what size I need...can anyone tell me what type and storage volume I need ?
Chris Bott - Moderator
I have a 16Gb micro SD in mine. Probably overkill on size. PS mine is an X12 but I'm assuming X10 will be the same.Edited By Chris Bott - Moderator on 18/07/2018 12:00:

trebor
I've got this to look forward to I've had my Taranis over a year now and never updated it or used companion.
Chris Bott - Moderator
Ok is there a section in the upgrade document covering using Zadig to replace the usb driver? (Careful with Zadig, do NOT use it with TX connected to PC while switched on)
r6dan
haha well we can both struggle, read, watch and annoy the guys on here with endless questions haha
Chris Bott - Moderator
Yep Flashing instruction paragraph 7 tells you all about Zadig. Before this it hasn't told you to connect Tx to PC. So you're jumping the gun. It's important to follow the instructions.
r6dan
ive plugged my x10 in to the usb port, the cable icon is on the radio screen but its not showing up on my computerr, any ideas why?
Chris Bott - Moderator
Yes I think it's because you haven't done as I suggested above.Edited By Chris Bott - Moderator on 18/07/2018 20:36:

r6dan
got it! its a driver booy thingy!
Chris Bott - Moderator
For some reason the FrSky hardware and Microsoft don't play perfectly together. You'll find that every now and again, with a Windows update, Microsoft will think it knows better and will pick the wrong driver again. So when you have these symptoms again, just go through the Zadig process again. As detailed in that instruction sheet.
r6dan
ok cool, ill give it another go tommow, this softwear better be worth all the faffing about!
Geoff S
I did all the Zadig interface stuff to use Companion but, to be honest, I do all my model set ups on the transmitter as I did with my Taranis and my Mutliplex 3030 before that. On the Horus it's very easy to use and it means I check it on the actual model as I'm setting up. What I do on my PC is backups and images from photos of my models which is fun but not absolutely necessary. Geoff
r6dan
That’s interesting, so am I right in thinking I can put open tx on the sd card and not actually have to connnectvthe radio to the computer at all ? I’ve been faffing and read so much info I can’t make heads or tails of it, I think I’ve just confused myself 😂
Chris Bott - Moderator
No you can't. What you need to do is stop guessing and do exactly what the instructions say. That's why they were written and you can get in a real mess if you don't Sorry if I sound like a broken record, I won't mention it again but you're on your own if you try to make it up as you go along. Geoff S
Sorry if I was being confusing, as Chris says, you need to do the interface for backup etc. Just follow the instructions and all will be well. They are very good and extremely helpful. Geoff
r6dan
No that makes sense, I’m terrible at following instructions but I’ll follow to the letter!

trebor
I am a bit disappointed with the case as the switches are right under the lid, for the sake of an extra 10mm and some padding I really wanted the alloy case but the price put me off
