Peter Miller
WOW! That is going to be some colour scheme!! Throw it away and start again.!!??? You have my admiratipon as a perfectionist. I am afraid that I tend to say "Well it will look pretty good at 50 feet"
charlie holdford
Peter, I am no perfectionist by a long shot, but a good model deserves to look good! In fact I am a novice, the only skill I have is I look read, remember and try to emulate, if it doesn't look right I will do it again. That's my flying style as well. Having passed my A cert. I do multiple circuits and landings most flying days. As well as starting to learn some aerobatics. But the truth is I can take off and land multiple types of model as well as anyone in the club. PS Cant believe, no one else is building it, My goal is to be flying it before the next edition of the magazine come out.. Only the weather will stop me I think. charlie holdford
My delivery arrived today, so will start again. Decide to have a go at the undercarriage. Blooming heck how do you bend 8 SWG Piano wire to 90 degrees?
Peter Miller
A solid vice and a big hammer or a god wire bender bolted to thebench Best with a wire bender but a solid vice and a hammer.#
charlie holdford
Thanks Peter, I will see if I can fabricate such a device
Peter Miller
THis is the type I have. The price may bring tears tothe eyes but I can promise you that it will last for years, Mine is about 40 years old(and cost less but then it was stillexpensive for its day. **LINK** The4 only problem isthat when your club mate find out that you haveit you may get requests to bend their U/Cs for them
dan h
Charlie another one to have a look at is the k&s mighty wire bender. Its a solid piece of kit mine works excellent a little pricey but will last me a life time. Dan
Peter Miller
The problem with the K&S bender is that you need a big solid vice to hold it in. Mine is just screwed down to the bench.
dan h
Very true peter. But there is a simple solution if one hasnt a good vice. Grab a piece of 12mm ply whatever size suits. Draw round the base of the bender cut the hole out so the base fits snug into the ply clamp the ply to the bench and voila a nice flat surface to make an undetcarriage. Nigel R
I have the K&S bender. I use a drill press vice (cost about £5 some years back) to hold it and bolt that to an old bit of 3/4 ply.
charlie holdford
Well my wire bender arrived today and it is fantastic, bent the 8 swg wire as if I was superman
charlie holdford
Part way to completing the covering,
Peter Miller
Yes,that wire bender is sensational. In fact I have bent 6SWG wifre on mine but it did snap three of the small retaining screws seen beside the pivot. IT would not got hrough the main restrainer. THat clour scheme is great and I like the single seat cockpit
charlie holdford
Nearly complete, just the RX and a some lettering on the wings.
charlie holdford
So having made the rudder 8mm larger and added a steerable tail wheel. I also made the canopy slightly shorter, (that's all I had.....) My build came out at 1.5kg that's with a 3s 2200 battery., so I can easily fit a 3s 3300 CG is on the main wing spar so slightly aft, about 5mm. Peter Miller
What a lousy spell of weather we are having. I hope it improves soon and you can fly Moon Dancer 2.
charlie holdford
Thanks for the comments, all completed now ready for a favour day to maiden alongside the Lysander. Will post what happens next! At least with the inclement weather, I now have another model to fly. Thanks for the design Peter.

charlie holdford
I managed to sort the C of G out by adding a 3700mAh (3S) with the all up weight, spot on 1.6kg (3.5lb) Gave the power train a spin, as the sun was shining! Using the recommended motor, Frsky Neuron ESC, and APC 11 x 5.5 prop gave 365W at 31.77A 11.52V So 102W / lb sounded OK and all well within limits at full chat. Roll on a decent, non blustery day.... charlie holdford
Hi, With any luck, the forecast for Monday is looking excellent. The club strip has been cut, and the access track is passable. So Plan A 1. Fly the Calmato 40 a few times to get the fingers working again, its been soooooo long 2. Maiden the Moon Dancer 2 3. Maiden the Lysander 4. Charge the batteries and do it all again Plan B There is no plan B
