Mark Kettle 1
The above picture is by the artist :- HEINZ KREBS JA-111, the nose of Hartmann's F-86 sports a black tulip, his personal emblem throughout World War ll. This is my choice of finish for the November F86 Sabre Mass Build Event. Edited By Mark Kettle 1 on 10/09/2019 22:59:

Mark Kettle 1
I would love to engineer a sliding canopy, how would I do that? Is it possible on small model?

Mark Kettle 1
1st of November 2019, here I go. Well like the phase or was it a proverb 'A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step' coined in China I believe. So I begin my F86 Sabre Mass build effort, no come journey! I bet, I pick it up and put in down a thousand times before it is done, lets see. After looking through the kit of parts supplied by Martin and Gordon, the whole wing left and right panels are built on a 'jig' placed over the plan, the jig controls the dihedral and wash-out from centre mid rib chord to the wing tip rib. Identifying the parts, the jig is in small parts and it needs assembly. A little sanding / shaping is needed to put the male plugs to female lugs together, see picture. See you in a bit. Mark Kettle 1
Long pieces to the jig glued straight. New Plaster Board on flat bench and a copy of wing part of the plan with clean plastic over the top, reason to protect it from glue spills /drips from drying parts. Checked parts and marked them up via and aided from the main plan.
McG 6969
Hi Mark, A very 'didactical' start of your build thread. Very clear & well explained. That's exactly what I need to make some progress with my kit, so I can only hope you will go on the same way when progressing with your construction. Unfortunately, I might have to ask some questions during your progress. Thanks again & cheers Chris
Mark Kettle 1
Thanks for the comments McG 6969, the blog / thread method has been asked of me to help any lay-persons or child / youngster looking in and wants to start building. How's your build start going?
McG 6969
Hi Mark, Thanks for your reaction. Despite I'm "looking in", I'm not really in the "child/ youngster" category. But I really need some guidance throughout the build to avoid as many as possible 'gotchas'... My "build start" is a bit slow as I'm trying to figure out the differences between the F-86 and the 'Dog'. I'm redrawing some parts, mainly the front keels (F13 & F14) and some formers of the fuse need to be modified. Regarding the 'wood', I just finished cleaning/filing the bits for the wing jig and hopefully I can start with that one during one of the following days. Cheers Chris
Mark Kettle 1
A retired work colleague his having a go at cutting out and making a Sabre, so the detail is useful and handy for him. Next bit... Weighted down jig drying over-night.
Peter Garsden
Good to see you joining us this time Mark - last time was the year of the Vulcan? I was looking at the speed brakes. My concern is the droop which makes them fall below the bottom of the fuselage. So if we land in heather and do not retract them on landing they will get ripped off. Worth some thought though. Videos are very helpful.
Mark Kettle 1
Thanks Peter, Sabre speed brakes I've been looking at it again this morning, and I'm still not sure. As regards being ripped off, yes however at a slower speed .
Harry Twist
Nice start to your Sabre build Mark. The speed brake angle problem creates a little head scratching, the hinge line dynamics need a good coat of looking at. It's almost looks as the base of the hinge line tilts inwards during actuation? Alan Gorham_
Hi Mark I think you are on the right lines, see this picture I found after a Google: The bottom hinge point is offset with respect to the upper one and this gives the "swing radius" for the brake. PS - am still hoping to be down to Oakham maybe this month or early December re float collection!
Mark Kettle 1
Yes no problem Alan, I've kept them to one side. Cheers for the input you two.

"In 1961 The New German Federal Luftwaffe" I know I am not well in the head, but I feel this is THE GREATEST TITLE, EVER, for a Sabre build blog. Possibly even the GREATEST TITLE, EVER, ANYWHERES for a build blog of ANY aircraft type. REDACTIONS CAN BE FABULOUS! Hilarious how it turned out! Edited By John H.
