Viv Letherby
I stripped my newly aquired engine to de-gum it. The cam followers and rocker shafts were stuck tight. In the process I Iost an e clip from the rocker shaft. Not much of a problem i thought so I ordered a pack of 4mm e clips from GWR fasteners. They don't fit. They are Din 6799, but the engine is Japanese. What standard do I look for or should I try Just Engines? The larger one in the photo is Din, the smaller one is original. Viv Letherby
That's interesting Modelfixings sell e clips by the groove diameter, (how do you measure that) and GWR sell by shaft diameter and their clips do push onto a 4mm shaft without a grove. Viv Letherby
I've sorted the clip problem. a 3.2mm e clip fits the grove on a 4mm shaft well enough.
Viv Letherby
I've reassembled the engine. it doesn't work. There is very little tank pressure, only 10mm of the feed pipe fills with each flick, Even with the starter the engine doesn't get a prime. I suspect the regulator, it looks all good. What does a bad diaphragm look like? There are no holes or splits in it.
Jason Channing
The regulator does nothing at idle and even if faulty it would not stop the engine from starting pm me for more details and speak direct,
Jason Channing
should add that at starting their will be no pressure and it builds up,
Martin McIntosh
Phil Williams at Probuild Aircraft is the person to speak to if they still service YS engines. If your motor was as gummed up as you say then the flow regulator, tiny fuel holes and none return valve will require cleaning. The regulator is tricky to do with a silicone valve and a small spring. The screw holding it all together must be level with the body when reassembling. It sounds like the none return valve is sticking but easily checked and you can clean it with fresh fuel. Do not attempt to disassemble this. I have a few YS motors so like Jason above feel free to pm me.
