Don Fry
I bought some fancy redundancy switches from HK (Hong Kong). Under the limit for import duty, liable for VAT equivalent. I got an e mail from La Poste (equivalent of Royal Mail), asking if I wanted to pay the TVA (VAT) online, and pointing out, cheaper service than paying the postie. So I did, 8 euro tax, plus 2 euro admin fee. That’s about £1.80 in stirling for admin. I got a email receipt to show the postie, with a code and barcode. She read this into her phone, package handed over. New system, seems to work. It’s only a computer package, no reason why it does not work anywhere, change language as needed. Perhaps it might come to the UK.
Martin McIntosh
No chance in the UK, the PO make too much out of it. What is the limit these days?
Don Fry
Dunno exactly. It’s about 15 euro, or pounds for tax. And about 130 euro, or pounds for duty, but the toy parts we buy don’t seem to have much duty.
EarlyBird
All my recent low value purchases from the EU have been delivered by the PO with no VAT or handling charge added.
Martin McIntosh
Some years ago I bought a 50cc motor from HK. Because of the weight there was no choice with postage (£40). Delivered quickly but not only did the PO grab £14 handling but I was charged duty on the postage. So much for a cheap motor.
Nigel R
Think the vat limit is due to be removed don. Much like it was here. Eu change was delayed because of coronavirus.
Andy Stephenson
A couple of months ago I bought a motor from Flitetest America for just under $30 US and there were no charges attached to it whatsoever and the correct price had been declared on the customs form.
