Help, Need a Manual, SC52 2 Stroke Rear Needle
dave windymiller replied to Keith Sharples's topic in IC Engines
Another common issue for these engines is a leaking o ring on the needle which makes them very erratic. Earlier SC engines has a slightly smaller oring thickness and were prone to leak as the ratchet spring pushed the needle sideways. Remove the ratchet spring and turn the needle. The oring should provide a slight resistance to turning which is obvious as the needle is wound out (oring becomes visible outside its "tube" -
I have had enough of fueller valves
dave windymiller replied to Adrian Smith 1's topic in All Things Model Flying
Ive used them for 15 years or more on my curare and never been let down. I do however only use it in the fill line with the tank venting / overflowing into the exhaust pressure line. This means sealing off the output of the filler valve thats supposed to go to the carb. -
This has been an issue for me too. There are a few shortcomings with the variable ones such as cleaning between lenses (i understand) I too do the two pair trick. I now put these (with +4, max strength!) on top of my prescription glasses (varifocal) which works great for close up. The white LEDs light really help too. Only a fiver but not the best fashion statement you will make. ebay Black LED Reading Glasses-presbyopic glasses with LED light Power/Diopter **LINK**

Forum members' new models: Let's see them.
dave windymiller replied to Paul Marsh's topic in All Things Model Flying
Thanx chaps, my first go at 2k paint spraying (lovely stuff to work with). The diet was for a reason, having lost Hucknall where there was no weight limit, i wanted to fly a jet at my local club, Long Eaton which has a limit of 7kg (dry) due to the closeness of east midlands airport! Many hours were spent drilling holes and making lighter components (eg original canopy was 450g (!!!), the new one is 140g. Fins were 350g each now 150g etc etc 1.5kg was saved swapping the phoenix 30.3 engine for a jetsmunt and using replace per flight lipos for the engine. Even bought loads of 2litre bottle of pop to find the lightest tank (that saved 10g!). Seems strange watching a gram here and a gram there for such a big model. Yet to maiden it (again) ! Odd issue with new servos
dave windymiller replied to John Smith 50's topic in All Things Model Flying
Just in case its of benefit to someone here one that caught me out. Some receivers also can be selected to a high speed mode such as the frsky tfr8s The cycle time/repetition rate in standard is 14ms and in HS mode 7ms which can mess up some servos! Dynam retracts wont work when its in HS mode! -
Built as a test bed prior to finishing the 144. 1/12 scale Jetsmunt 80

My C7 own design jet trainer/Home engineered kj66 turbine
dave windymiller replied to stevejet66's topic in Jets and Turbines
Seeeing your own engine in the sky for the first time is a thrill thats up there with all of your past modelling highlights. A mix of elation and fear (will it blow up; flame out etc etc). The very best of luck Heres my moment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIx0ycw-mEo Edited By dave windymiller on 17/11/2016 19:43:20 -
Having lost the exhaust from my AX65, i made up an exhaust from my os fx 60 box of bits The AX65 exhaust has a part no (E-4010A) and the fx im now using is (E-4010S) -- different suffix The engine is not happy with this fx60 exhaust and lacks umph. I suspect the holes in the tail pipe and internal baffle are different. Is there any kind person that has a 65ax that could measure the following please? 1 Inner baffle hole dia 2 Exhaust exit diameter (this may be a tapered hole!!) 3 Bolt diameter (that hold it all together) If i can find this info out i will modify the fx60 silencer to ax65 spec (i dont want to guess!!) Many thanks Dave

Help with dynam meteor retracts please.
dave windymiller replied to Michael Wright's topic in Electric Ducted Fan
I had a problem with my Meteor retracts which was due to the receiver (frsky) being set to High speed pulse rate (7.5ms). All servos on the plane worked fine except the retracts which were problematic. Returning the rx to normal speed 15ms cured all problems . I hadnt knowingly set the rx to high speed! If the retract is duff you can get them off ebay / hobbyking cheaply search for Digital Servoless Retractable system The meteor retract unit is 33x35 mm if memory serves -
Yikes! - Genuine pulsejet!
dave windymiller replied to pete taylor's topic in General Vintage R/C Chatter
I built a brauner pulse jet in the 80s and planned to put it on a ripmax rapier (not being aware of the practicality/legal issues). The first time it ran it became very clear to me that this engine would never fly in any form! From a fire point of view any model attached to it wouldnt last long! The whole exercise in building and running one was fascinating but now it resides an an ornament Edited By dave windymiller on 14/02/2015 22:31:24 -
The only thing i would say is the meteor needs more care when assembling to get the best out of it. The elevators need attention as the pushrod binds (cut some foam away to get a better action). I would also try and remove any surplus glue from around the wingbolt nuts. I found this wraps round the wingbolts making removal very difficult. The V2 (with retracts) has a better motor/fan combo which is also very quiet compared to the habus. The V1 used a much more flexible fan but fitting an habu fan/motor really improved this version. My V1 was smashed in a mid air so went and bought the V2 but i have since rebuilt it with a whole new balsa front fus section!

Like the habu but half the price!

Dont rely on the velcro supplied to hold the battery in. Ask me how i know!!! Agreed the meteor is a fine model. Dave
