  1. I would think flying a model plane the following day is probably not a good idea...
  2. OK so it's an EDF foamie but I like it! It's a discontinued one from Kyosho, 25" span ARTF that comes with a 55mm fan, motor, esc, and 3 servos. It's moulded polystyrene not EPO so very fragile. It didn't get away from the first launch and broke the nose but I repaired it and had 3 successful flights this morning. Cold and blustery weather but it flew well. The first flight was mostly trimming but it can be seen here:
  3. I started with a single channel RCS Guidance System mid 60's, then single channel Macgregor, then various Futaba sets, Simprop Sam, before switching to Multiplex for my last 3 transmitters. Just got the latest version of the MPX Cockpit 9.
  4. I read the thread title and thought Chris Foss had produced a new model... Must be an age thing. Edited By Andy Palmer on 02/02/2017 14:18:49
  5. I also have a couple of 7 channel rxs with telemetry, and some of the 5 channel ones with telemetry. All excellent, no problems with any of them. The new Cockpit SX9 is not very different in price or features to the Spektrum DX9, One crash would more than cover the cost difference... Presumably, with the weak pound receivers of all makes will rise in price, don't think there are any British made ones around.
  6. Posted by Percy Verance on 15/01/2017 09:29:59: Coincidentally Chris, the least costly receiver for my radio is around £50. Some of the flyers in my club recoil in horror at that. I wonder what the reaction might be if I showed them a couple of 12 channel ones I have, at £150+ each? Edited By Percy Verance on 15/01/2017 09:36:11 Percy, I use the same German made radio and I have lots of these: **LINK** I wouldn't use them in something like your Condor but for the small electrics I mostly fly they are excellent, I've never had a moment of doubt with any of them and they're very cheap. Buy 3 at a time and the postage from Germany is free.
  7. Excellent info Robin, that seems to tie all the loose ends
  8. Posted by Pete Willbourn on 13/01/2017 14:57:47: Can I add " I remember it well " I was also in the RAF wing of the CCF ( 1950-59)and we had one of those gliders, Launched off a twin bungee with 10 cadets either side ,We could only play with it in very dry weather when the grass was not slipery as it tended to launch the guys on the bungee rather that the glider . The elevator control could be locked so as it would not take off and you had to do 10 "slides " with out the wing tip touching the ground and then you advanced to "hops " which again were limited by the pull on the bungee. A great machine to learn basics on , I never saw ours at over 30 feet cheers Yes, you've jogged my memory more now, the launch with a twin bungee was the same. I don't remember anything about locking the elevator but it was probably the same. As I said earlier it was very rarely used and I never got a go. Health and Safety would have a fit nowadays!
  9. Simon, you could well be right, they look very similar. Found this pic of an EoN Primary glider.
  10. Wow! I was in the RAF section of the CCF (Combined Cadet Force) when I was at secondary school (mid 60's) and they had one of those, or a very similar glider. Unfortunately I only ever saw it used a couple of times and I never got a go. They used to bungee it across the school fields but it only ever got a few feet of the ground.
  11. A quick update. I returned the cable and have been given a full refund, excellent, many thanks Kings Lynn Models. I've manually entered the info for 5 of my most 'current' models and, as Thursday had perfect flying weather, I flew all 5 and trimmed them out. All good, no problems. I like the talking timer, a great improvement on the beeps of the older version of the Cockpit. I also like the Range Check mode vibration. I've never tried to fly with the old transmitter in Range Check mode inadvertently but on the new one it vibrates so much it would be virtually impossible! I've seen a couple of people (with other makes of transmitter) take-off in Range Check mode...it never ends well! Multiplex Modellsport messaged me following my query and said to ring Customer Support in Germany. I rang yesterday and was pleased that the initial "Press button 1 for sales" etc was in German and English but when I got to Technical Help there was only a message in German. I think it probably said "Go away, we're having our Christmas party" or similar! So I took Frank's advice and asked on the forum. I very quickly had a reply saying it's not possible because the hardware and software are not compatible. That's fair enough, at least I know. Thanks for the help.
  12. Thanks for the reply Frank. My old tx is the 2.4GHz Cockpit, don't know if that makes any difference. I read this and assumed I'd be ok: **LINK** I've asked the question on the Multiplex Modellsport Facebook page, I may get an answer tomorrow. If not I'll try the forum that you suggest. As you say, it's not too difficult to set all the models up again manually if I have to. I bought the lead thinking it would also be needed to download any future software updates for the new tx, but of course I now realise that's not the case. If all else fails I may have to exchange it for other modelling gear, could be worse!
  13. Hi guys, after deliberating for ages I took delivery of a Cockpit SX 9 today. I took a while to buy it as my 'old' Cockpit SX still performs faultlessly as always and the only real reason for upgrading is because I've used all the model memories on the old set. But I like the speech output as well, I don't always hear the beeps on the old Cockpit, and it will be much better on the models that use telemetry sensors. I also bought the USB-PC lead (85148) so I could save all the models on the old tx and upload them to the new one. I've saved the old models OK using Launcher but I can't see how to upload them to the new set. Launcher works fine with it but I just can't work out how to upload the info. Have I just wasted £37 odd on the lead?
  14. Posted by Erfolg on 21/11/2016 22:45:44: I have placed an order, as seems to be the case with others, where it is coming from is not clear. I am left with the impression that the order is slit between the UK and Holland. Rather annoyingly for the same weight limit the Dutch P&P charge is a full £4 lower. I know this is repetitious, how can HK accept their present arrangement with the UK, PO, when compared to what the Dutch can do? I am seriously annoyed with the situation of not being able to select or identify, easily, where items are stocked. For a low cost ESC, I want to be able to select purchase from Hong Kong. The reason is that the UK postal charges will in many cases double the bill. In the case of the present order, the postal charges are higher than the HK charges. When I want hinges dor a couple of pounds, I do not want the total bill to be circa £9. Then have to go to the post office to collect the parcel, all because the PO are a set of useless wazarks. I am afraid if HK do not fix this aspect, they will be loosing my trade, as there is no incentive to use them. HK now have a 'letter' postal rate from the UK warehouse of £1.25 for packages up to 100gms. For packages from the EU warehouse in Holland the lowest postal rate is up to 200gms for £1.43. So if you want stuff that weighs between 100 and 200gms it's cheapest to order from the EU warehouse if they have it. If you order things that aren't all in stock in the UK the order will be split between the warehouses that have stock, so you can end up being charged postage from UK and EU but it's all shown very clearly before you pay. I was in exactly that situation with an order last night when I wanted three small items, one item was in stock in EU but not UK so I changed the whole lot to come from the EU warehouse and just paid the £1.43.
  15. Posted by Daren Graham - Cambria Funfighters on 13/11/2016 17:00:09: Hey guys, It is worth noting that many HK products are available from Rapid RC. Rapid aren't connected in any way to HK except to say that they both get products from the same place. They are UK based and great to deal with. http://www.rapidrcmodels.com/ and no I dont work for them before you ask Good link, thank you
  16. Posted by brokenenglish on 06/10/2016 08:56:21: Epoxy and the Deluxe Materials RC Modeller's Glue both work well, but the best is the mucilage adhesive currently on the HK Europe site. It's what the manufacturers use and is perfect for EPO. This stuff... The tube is small, but so is the price! http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=77591 Edited By brokenenglish on 06/10/2016 08:58:38 They also do large tubes of it: **LINK**

  19. Posted by Stephen Jones on 09/11/2016 23:30:16: I wish HK would stock indoor flying kit in the UK warehouse, like the Tiny motor and gear box + WL toys - indoor models And spare parts for the WL toys they would make for good scratch build models. Do HK not realize hear in the UK it is indoor season. Steve Steve, I don't do indoor as I fly outdoors all year but I do live on the south coast. They list loads of indoor models (Planes/Indoor) and also some gearboxes and motors under the Electric Motors/Gearboxes & Parts sub section. No idea if that's the kind of stuff you are after but hope that helps Andy
  20. I've just done a few 'dummy' purchases and the site seems to be working well now. I logged in and, if you add something to your basket, it seems to default to the UK warehouse if they have the item in stock. The Search facility is working ok, at least on stuff I searched for. Also, on the postage there is now a 'letter' rate for small items. I added some balance leads to my basket and it offered postage for £1.65 for items up to 250gms. I'm not saying it's all perfect but it's much better, they're getting there. No doubt all the HobbyKing haters will still be moaning but I'm very happy they are getting it sorted now Andy
  21. Posted by Erfolg on 08/11/2016 18:04:11: I have set the currency to United Kingdom, GBP, English, will all the models that come up automatically be located in the UK? If this is so, I personally do not like the method, as it is not explicit. The other issue is that I normally buy my small stuff from the Chinese Warehouse/site, as traditionally the range has been far greater. I am interested in one particular model. No, you'll get all the models from everywhere. You'll need to Add To Cart and then select which warehouse you want to see if it's listed. Not right yet but I'm sure they'll get it sorted eventually.
  22. Posted by oldgit on 08/11/2016 17:04:01: John as an experiment I tried to order the ASP 91 FS but got the usual "unable to ship from UK" I think your blessed Works fine for me on that engine, postage £6.51 from UK Warehouse...
