  1. I agree with BEB worst plastic Kit I have ever had to work with and I have built plastic kits for over 50 years! so the tooling comments are inaccurate at best. Its just a piece of junk. All too common these days seems no one gives a hoot about reputation - just bang it out and sell it at 415 its over 10X what its worth even today. The cheapest party popper plastic kit beats this supposedly quality Williams Bros kit hands down.I threw mine out and built one from wood and perforated screen for a better effect anyway.
  2. magnificejnt model. Im just watching tales of the Gold Monkey on Kodi right now. Excellent work !!!
  3. It never ceases to amaze that few IF any people actually answer the question asked. Rule of thumb start settings ( if totally messed up) try NOT to fiddle with the low end set the high end first and see how it transitions etc first Low end needle 2.5 turns out ( car engines typically have the low end screw flat, flush with in its barrel) High end 2.5 turns out ( how people claim 5, 6or even 7 turns is amazing) To tune open throttle 1/4 and start --- see how it goes for a few seconds Only if too lean turn out high needle in 1/16-1/8th inch increments. Set Low idle to obtain a reliable idle do this by turning the needle (rich or lean ) in 1/16th inch increments ie turn let it run for a few seconds turn again and run a few seconds till its right. A tacho helps actually see what revs are doing (experts who claim they can do it by ear are fooling themselves and everyone else0. When you feel the engine is right see how it transitions from Low to high when you push the throttle up sort of brisk- if it gurgles and chokes its a bit rich on the low end. When you set the highest revs with the high needle, richen the high needle till revs drop about 300-500 rpm(an engine always leans out by itself in the air.
  4. Hi Guys lovely little plan. I just restored a crashed one but for the life of me I cannot find the recommended aileron throws any where They dont appear on the plans with the Elev and Rudder throws. Can anyone suggest a good start point as Im very uncertain how to set the itial throws with such short wide ailerons :D Thanks in advance
  5. The manual is at GlowSwitch Plus manual 1 http://www.rchelispot.com/viewtopic.php?t=15591 and its companion post GlowSwitch Plus manual 2 http://www.rchelispot.com/viewtopic.php?t=15592 for the front and back covers of the manual. Looks like the GlowSwcth Plus is no longer made or represented it used to have its own website then Heliaddict but both have dissappeared.
  6. I dont want to hijack Martins thread but this may be of interest. I just completed my 182 in US Coast Guard livery. Saito 100 with a few ounces of lead for CG. Spats fitted and grass runway. Maiden flite It tracked well even through small clumps of freshly cut grass and appeared to have enough grunt for flight so I committed aviation. Take off could have used a bit more throttle (from me) but it left the ground scale like with just a wing dip and a wobble (nerves). The engine cackled twice (very odd sound) but settled into a nice drone. The plane was in perfect trim  ! but the engine's initial cackle suggested an early landing would be prudent . Had one go around to loosen the nerves and on the 2nd landing attempt, reduced throttle and glided with power to a perfect greased landing with the mains just touching the runway just before the front wheel. This plane is a beaut!! flies like a dream (even with me at the controls). As suspected Topflites suggested low rates would be better as high rates. Their high rates would be way too much. Now to find why the cackle maybe the muffler loosed?? ;d
  7. Heres a $64 question guys. What is that curved abs part in pic3 near the aluminium landing gear? I have completed my build and have not used this piece.   I thought it might be a belly pan for the landing gear/ but it has plap marks like the cowl bottom. Edited By Flyoz on 04/10/2014 09:05:34
  8. hi Guys nice thread. Does anyone have a picture of the Torque rod assembly? i have a missing one. I worked out how to fabricate one with the bends, thea plastic tube bearing but cant fathom how the rod actually inserts through the fuse hole. it seems with the rods 70degree odd bend (to the rudder) would foul the hole or am I missing something like the hole being very shallow???. Can anyone help?
  9. Well after the 6th test flights and rebuilds I manage to get it away but the left wing dropped so much it needed full right aileron. It was also way to tail heavy although it balanced ok at the suggested COG points. I reckon an inch or 22mm fwd of the stated 80mm from LE would be better. And down she went. I had used less lead after adding a bracing firewall after a crash and now remember the maiden needed full down elevator to fly right so the stated C of G was always wrong (made worse by using less lead later). The two wafer thin main beams 2mm X 45mm "communion biscuit wood" thru the nose also just allowed the complete nose to fall off after a small knock - even a backfiring 4s might have broken it! ( i had to add 4 3/8 sq beams to strengthen the nose). All in all the BH BD looks great with decent fittings but is flimsily made and the C of G is wrong. The butt/ interlocking cheap ply pieces are suited to a light electric NOT an 80" Glow model.
  10. Thanks keith thats about the 80mm Blackhorse recommends. To achieve that balance point I put the battery and some lead up front just at the rear edge mark of cowl with a Saito 72 So I'll see how it goes
  11. I also would appreciate some clarification re the correct CofG as Im about to maiden my BD. Also I set the Aileron Differential to 20mm up 7mm down per the manual but it looks a lot to me??
  12. I suspended a false ceiling of ply by lite chains from the hi ceiling  and place the fuselkarges on the board then suspend  Coat hangers (from their hooks or by strong fishing line to the false ceiling) and slide the wings at each end in a hanger. keeps dust off the wings. You can also hang fuselarge by tail in a soft rope loop also hooked to ceiling/ wall and have wheels touch the wall ie vertical Fuse. Those beams you have are ideal for screw in hooks and a false ceiling / storage shelf (over your head height so you can still work underneath). You can also have 2-3 wings in a ladder arrangement with the hangers or with a soft rope ladder (one at each end of the wings) each wing end goes through a ladder rung :D Edited By Flyoz on 29/09/2013 12:31:45 Edited By Flyoz on 29/09/2013 12:35:41
  13. yes that blue and white thing is called.. A Rolls Canardley. Roles ok but Can Hardley fly :D
  14. Can you point out the pilot?.. well er yeah hes the one with the very confused look on his face. just cause the Tx has 30+ model memories i dont think that means you must take the whole hangar
  15. Look at Minicraft they are also good :D
  16. Well yes But... It has heaps of lovely Bubbles to mold in plastic and it floats too so is somewhat different D
  17. Wow Richard, This build is easily the most inspiring and informative RC article i have ever read. I learnt more here than all my RC books and mags combind about various building techniques. And what a brilliant subject. If you ever decide to do similar with a catalina I will be 1st in line at the viewing table Thanks :D
  18. Why didnt you tell him it was junk. By just accepting it you enable cheats to prosper.

    What colour?

What an awesome idea! :D that Bob the builder yellow looks good. come to think of it my dsx11 would look great in a deep blue clear typ colour :D Now youve done it not only will we be playing with planes but well be holding lollypops upside down.
  20. Thnks david, I thought so just before I made a couple of small Cowl cutouts to accomodate the tappet heads I had a gut feel right then. Oh well on the bright side the 70 will hide away beautifully and the slots can be disguised.   ARF bashing 101 I guess
  21. Thanks David, I found it .   I have both the Saito 100 and a 72 I was about to fit the 100 but Colin suggests in the review a Saito 72 would be better suited.   Would you guys  agree?   Im after more scale operation and the 72, would, fit better :DEdited By Flyoz on 14/09/2011 04:16:37
  22. Hi Adrian where did you read the review. I just subscribed online and cant seem to find a link
