Piston made from 6082T6 just need to do the circlip grooves but it's proving to be a bit tricky setting it up accurately in the chuck! while I'm giving it some thought I have another little project for restoration ..... .
-
Because you never when you will need one for a new project, and oh! Look,I have just the engine I need too hand best get on with it then. But of course you are right DD ,guilty as charged probably have more than twice that, although 15 or so are projects, 100+ plans,8 kits+500-600 magazines and books, do I need all of this? Heck no,but as our American chums would say 'he who dies with the most toys, wins! '

Covering a Ben Buckle Super 60
jeff2wings replied to Andy-H's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
Very nice Jim 👍looks like a posh junior 60 ,the transparent profilm suits it ,I have used profilm and found it gives excellent torsional stability, if only it was a bit (a lot) cheaper! -
Well got to making a start with the covering using my dwindling stock of Hobbyking film, not enough orange left so will be mostly blue.

Anyone know what happened to Kamco?
jeff2wings replied to Guvnor's topic in R/C Retailers / Distributors / Manufacturers
Kadet plans are on outerzone if that's what you need. -
Finally got around to doing the faring on the wing on this project, after a lot of sanding down it blends in quite well. This now means I need to decide whether to go for a all paint finish, all film finish, or a combination of both 🤔 not too mention a suitable colour scheme!!

We must be of a similar vintage leccyflyer ! If I remember rightly the jay-pee had a diamond shaped aerofoil with sexy looking endplates on the wing tips and a profile fuselage. My first real attempt was with a Mercury Marvin a Dave Platt design and a DC spitfire, and with not dissimilar results although in my case it stopped half way through and nose dived straight for me,requiring me to vacant the centre spot rapidly!

Old diesels? I can do old diesels.

Very informative ED,thanks for taking the time and effort posting your experience with this process, definitely will have a go at this
-
Ah,got it thanks. Interestingly I have just found an article on how to chrome plate a piston in the 1950 aeromodeller annual, a very similar process to anodising.
-
That really is a excellent result ED good as new! Always good to see an old 'dead ' engine brought back to life and hopefully back in the air maybe in something from the Keil Kraft range?

Unfortunately Manish hasn't stated what the error is, as in PCD or radial ,so you're all just guessing at solutions for the problem ,no doubt the reason for his question is that this prop would cost about £40 , so the only safe solution would be to have a prop driver and washer with the holes drilled to mach the prop, otherwise it's scrap.

So while looking through my tubs on my projects shelf I found this Enya SS50 that I picked up a while ago, it was missing the cylinder head and prop driver and the piston had suffered a bit of a trauma. I had started work on it making new head, removing the dead bearings and bead blasting it and then sticking it in the tub along with a SS40 that needed reassembly after cleaning and then forgetting about it! The piston was the biggest problem and was the reason for putting it aside. the piston crown looks a bit of a state but that's due to me attacking it with a file, and here's the reason why in the next two pictures not sure what happened to cause that damage, but it jammed the ring into ring groove, the distance from the top of the ring to crown is only .8mm so the only safe way to release it was to file it (carefully) away, so with that done....... that's the easy bit ,making the ring groove, pinning it and making the grooves for the circlips will be more of a challenge i

Normally when I drill for the gudgeon I start with a centre drill then a new quality drill, although I have used a slot mill but always under size and then ream with a D bit made from silver steel
-
Hope this doesn't upset you too much....... This will most likely go in a bluepants or KK scout team racer sonot to much poking out I'm not sure but I think the black coating was a kind of anodising that protects the magnesium case from corrosion, a common problem with ED's and Mills best thing is to keep the outside oiled (by running them!) think I may remake the backplate with a tank in the style of Cox bee
-
Perfectly sensible question, the important thing is there is a gap, at no point should the propeller or the back of a spinner make contract with the airframe
-
While I'm saving up for the bearings for the racer started on the dart, this will be more of a custom built rather than a restoration due to missing/damaged parts Roughing out the crankshaft blank ready for machining the crankpin New backplate mounting As can be seen the mounting lugs are damaged so I will probably remove them

Definitely, the u/c looks like Micro Mold copy of the Carl Goldberg units, very reliable when setup.

So while waiting for the weather to warm up for spraying paint I thought it a good idea to bring the spatman up too the same state. Now unlike the swinger this has flown, abit just the once and not very well due too lack of rudder movement and the silencer coming lose. So as a result of a poor choice of fuel proofer it's a case of sanding down and repainting, well I've had a bit of practice at that now. you can see that the proofer has not adhered to the paint and while I'm at it decided to replace the tailplane with some 3/16 wood given that the plane was a little nose heavy requiring all the gear to go as far back as possible to balance, I will also remove the fin/rudder and return both too the original shape.
-
Swinger fix-up v5.0 (probably) So here we go again with the rebuild of the plane that has never flown but has been in more mishaps than those of mine that have! lucky the tailplane is a foam/veneer so once the covering was removed it's just a case of removing the damaged part and adding suitable lump of wood and the same with the elevators probably need to trim that back a bit 😄 there you go, now nibble free nose filled and fuselage sanded down ready for paint (no white just black) and clearcoat
-
They will be if my boot connects with them !
-
So,here we are AGAIN ! 😡 just when you think after 34 years you'r finally going to fly the blinking thing........................ attack of the squirrels!! Had a nibble on the nose as well .
