  1. Going by another thread, get Phoenix 4 and do not at present "upgrade to V5"
  2. Haven't a clue what this is about as due to circumstance well beyond my control I took a long holiday from the Forum. Not sure I will ever get anywhere near as active as I used to be. Nice to see Ken "down South" is still on the go,,, and other old stalwarts
  3. Not so long ago their were some enquiry regarding Myron Beaumont. Just off the phone to him, his ''''''''''puter is acting up and has been a bit back and fro' to the menders. A few might be aware that he is not as limber as he used to be, but he still sounds the same old Myron. Chrissie is still doing fine I am pleased to say. Cheers guys. Bob
  4. The Caravan Club recently reported some bad news.Caravan Club members can confirm the comment below Not all batteries described as leisure batteries are in fact what could reasonably be classed as such (my words) Some had standard car starter internal plates, some had much less capacity than advertised including on the labels. They admit to not testing ALL label/brand and would not name the poor/bad ones as they wished the standard to be improved by the manufacturer/retailer. Only Two types tested complied with EN50342, VARTA and BANNER, although a third EXIDE was known to comply with that standard but is not so common in the UK. So, your choice gents. As a long time user of Leisure batteries for Field/portable use, practicale experience says some perform ok for a limited life. Of the two EN50342, I used only and can confirm VARTA was my choice. Even though cheaper batteries looked like value they proved to be somewhat lacking, either capacity, life, or most often both. Capacity also means the ability to provide the required voltage for the expected usage.
  5. People sometimes cannot get on well together, which is sad but a fact of life. Erfolg mentioned Eric Bray had nor been on for a while,,, Anyway Eric asked me to give his best regards to anyone on here who wonder how he is doing. Good deed done
  6. I appreciate and thank you all for the kind comments. Dot especially, and I, have made many friends during our time. With me, many made through model related activity and quite a few I have still to meet as witness the comments on this and a couple of other forums. Eric Bray is still active, although on a smaller forum. Myron and his Chrissie I have wondered about too, although I did get a nice comment when they were informed of my change of circumstance. Safe travels to you all.
  7. Posted by ken anderson. on 23/11/2013 08:55:37: hello bob.....PM sent A public thank you Ken. I may well spend a little more time down Englandshire this year. Might get to me more folk face to face. ken Anderson ne..1.
  8. I have not been here recently, or even for a good long while. Just in case anyone wondered why. I had been caring for my wife Dorothy (Dot) and found it impossible to keep up with a large forum. Dot had been suffering from MOTOR NEURON DISEASE which due to high profile media people, you may have heard of. Her suffering ended on the 2nd of October. If you get the opportunity and are inclined, please donate to your own country's MND association." Thank you, Bob Johnstone, otherwise "Flytilbroke" Ps, I am trying to get some enthusiasm back, not easy
  9. My wife and I have just spent the morning meeting with and lending our verbal congratulations and support to a really nice bunch of folks from down Englandshire starting from Liverpool They are doing a fund raise for MND,, Motor Neuron Disease and as part of that this activity they have two parts. One headed North to Ben Nevis led by a "London Taxi" redressed in the MNDA logo. The other group Cycled to Snowdon, of course they have had to get to the tops of those hills too. They started Saturday evening at about 6PM and are supposed to get back to Liverpool by 6PM tonight. Motor Neuron Disease is not well known, and once diagnosed the average life expectancy is 14 months and entails rapid physical deterioration to total dependency. There is no cure. **LINK**
  10. Without reading through from post one. I have seen the documentation or at least very relevant parts in relation to two insurance claims involving model pilots and the model impacting on the agrieved party. The Insurance insisted they will only be liable if blame can be placed on the Pilot in charge. The Insurers were a well known Model one. By the way, please do not let a CYCLIST crash into you in the future,,,, That crowd in Parliament want to make YOU, the victim, compulsarily accept that YOU were at fault and pay for it.
  11. Not been flying this year Martyn, my time has been otherwise occupied. I am going to use this blog of yours to give a little update to the guys who know us. We, in the Fort William area have seen very little of the really bad weather which most of the rest of the UK has had the unfortunate expeirience of. A slow reprieve from winter, and even had the hills turn quite white last week with the snow down to the eight hundred foot level. Further east the Lecht Ski area had the road closed. Only for a short while mind Even the normal heavy rain decided to go elsewhere. Now the update I mentioned. Martyn knows My Wife has Motor Neuron Disease, as some of you also know. This is a rapid and progressively very debilating affliction which is Terminal. Only comfort and care. In Scotland perhaps 150 people a year suffer from it. The Support care from all the Medical Services has been outstanding.. Safe Travels to you all
  12. Due to sort of recent and ongoing circumstance at home leaving me with less enthusiasm, as well as time, I have been very lax in reading much on the forum. So, tonight I caught up with not one but TWO episodes of Martyn's Head scratching I admit to being surprised at us near Ben Nevis not experiencing more of the weather he describes, sure not complaining though. Keep enjoying what you can young chap, says someone not much older. Hello to the good lady too Martyn, Dot also sends her regards.
  13. Thanks guys, and to Myron and Chrissie I think you will have an E-mail? Ken, the chap you mention has Pm'd and I will give what little info I can help him with.
  14. Hi Folks who know us, rather than have the rumour mill working I thought it better that you get informed directly. Bluntly, Dot has been confirmed as having Motor Neuron Syndrom. We will attend whatever events we can, she still looks forward to seeing her friends. She wants to try to do as much as possible of our normal eventing. Safe travels, Bob 'n Dot
  15. Re heading,,,,, Not a lot The weather in our northern area has been very good, but cold. So I decided to go to my Aviemore club but before doing that got in touch with someone local to it. The runway is like a ww1 Flanders battle ground of frozen mole heaps he said after going to check it out. Why can golf clubs do the treatment but not us? Especially since the wee b's seem to learn how to spring the traps. So I stayed at home.
  16. I have to agree with Ian Heath and many others. Imagine buying a car (system) and the dealers disclaiming no responsibility for it not having wheels. The retailer and the Wholesaler are "dealers", the Wholesalers in particular have the clout to say that the supplied goods must match the instuctions supplied with them. I am also a customer who bought the same item although from a different retailer, my oppinion did not count for much then either. Old saying, customer beware.
  17. A good blog, the latest one re the VULCAN. It is sad that so much "heritage" was sent for scrap. What would we have now had much of it been kept? A bit of Roman Tile is looked upon as more important.
  18. The Aurora was brilliant, it later proved to be a bit of a handfull said Steve. I can't remember what Airshow he said it was, but on take-off an engine out pushed it off line. Whups, other pants needed. So Singles are better when the public is present. Steve and his Dad are great modelers, very entertaining models they keep apearing with.
  19. Myron and Chrissie had horses in a field, I wonder if that is why he knows so much about this subject. You know we like you Myron Lots of tall TAILS being told about the subject, and Tesco gave the burgers the hoof
  20. My Dad and I used Jetex from about 1950, various sized units from the 50 up to good big 'uns. the 50 had miniscule thrust, so don't expect excitement from speed. I look forward to the results.
  21. One of my old mates, also a Radio Amateur, took this up some years ago. P'raps not the same program , can't remember. However he got the avtive Program, reciever and aerial, as more local "view" points were and are needed, and fed the result into the wider Web base. Sadly, his health has him in a care home now. More UK RX bases needed to give better coverage, no need to be a Radio "Ham". does have a cost to be active though. Edited By flytilbroke on 18/01/2013 12:01:09
  22. With basic corrogated metal sheet whether on its' own or on top of a planked surface, like mine, condensation is a big problem. Ventilation does not cure it. Sadly. Since I had my loft insulated I have had the same problem there, multiple ventilation fittings fitted to the roof also failed to solve the problem. The roof is slate on sarking.
  23. BEB certainly has made some good points re costs effectiveness. The problem is not so easily explained as in many cases the cost in time over milage is greater within the greater UK population than it is to transport to most Highland areas. I have pointed out that the North of England to areas in the South has greater milage, higher traffic congestion, so takes longer too. The dealer in question obviously does not want our Northerly trade, or Isle of Wight, thier loss. I have no sympathy for them. the media has reported that an enquiry has been set up to look into the rip-off practices of the carriers and thier often false claims of increased cost to VERY large areas of the UK. Aberdeen, Inverness and ares in between as well as elsewhere are NOT poorly served by poor main routes. Some on here could well confirm that the main Eastern Scottish routes are not particularly bad in comparison to many areas, indeed the congestion is often much less than in much of the South of the UK. Ripp-off it is, as confirmed by people I know who work in the delivery chain, common, to the Highlands.
  24. That looks a smart idea as demo by the Duke Engines. I suspect high wear on that Ball Joint though, which could mean high maintenance time and cost.
