  2. It was blank for me earlier but now ok.   How do you "ignore" someone (not that I want to)? Can.t find a setting for that in my account box.   John
  3. Just checked in the cafe as well - blank   john
  4. Now in my second full year of (early) retirement, Ive just had to fill in my online tax assessment. Did it early this year as I usually leave it to the last minute. Last year I actually got a rebate so hoped for one this year. Turned out I owed them 80p!!!!! Paid on line by switch and they actually took it.   Now a much poorer pensioner   John   Perhaps I should have posted this on Myrons grumpy threadEdited By John Tee on 14/06/2011 14:11:30
  5. Didn't know about this record but he was well known in the 70's and 80's for his altitude records tracked by radar. Not sure if any have been bettered in later years. Yet another pioneer in the model field lost.   John
  6. B.Bandit   Have only done one wiped joint since I did my gas apprenticeship 1963/6. nice to know the old skills are still used. Scary when you first have a handful of molten plumbers lead with just a moleskin to protect your hand. Memories of the good old days.   John @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);@import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  7. anti clockwise (viewed from the fron t) is the correct way
  8. Noel,   Sorry first chance to get online today. had a brainstorm the correct email is   [email protected]   john
  9. Hi Noel,   Try Motorvation Model Engine Repairs. email [email protected]   He has taken over fron John D Haytree a very respected engine repair man. He advertises even spares for OSMax engines   JohnEdited By John Tee on 15/03/2011 17:40:28
  10. Kosmyk   I will have a go at a drawing but not sure how to upload. will have to look at the guides in the beginners section. If you look at the end (section) of the aileron, it will end up with a chamfer top and bottom at the leading edge with a sharp edge in the centre of the leading edge which is the hinge line.   john
  11. David, The "old" way if using preshaped trailing edge stock ie triangular shape, is to mark a centre line all the way down the leading (thick) edge of the aileron and the mark a line on the top and bottom of the leading edge say 6mm back. Using a plane or sanding block remove the waste wood top and bottom to the lines. This should give a neat straight edge with a chamfer top and bottomto allow the aileron to move. Hinges are then fitted to leading edge of the aileron and rear face of the trailing edge of the wing. sounds more difficult than it really is, just take your time and don't remove too much wood at a time. john
  12. New Zealand has really suffered lately with a tsunami, mine disaster, earthquake and now a possible 2nd tsunami from the Japanese earthquake. Thought are with you all and hope it turns out not too badly this time.   John
  13. After spending 40 plus years on my knees at work my knees are very stiff and I'm very conscious of the prop spinning when trying to get up after starting my engines. have to remember to move backwards before rising to avoid leaning towards the model to push up. Working on a lightweight portable waist height bench to avoid kneeling at all. I did catch a thumb nail in a prop 20 years ago but minimal damage luckily, but it has taken many years to grow back fully John
  14. Dubro do a kit for throttles on four stokes that are too close to bulkheads for normal connections. It 's basically a bellcrank fixed to the forward end of the engine mount. The throttle link from the servo goes to the bellcrank and then another returns to the throttle arm on the engine. Available from Sussex Models. Not sure yet how to post links. I made mine from an old servo arm and it works.   John
  15. Stephen, I agree with Andy, he is talking about the brass inserts in the mounting grommets not the output arms, which have splines as you say. john
  16. Anything gratefully received. Thanks for the chance.   john
  17. Re leaded/unleaded solder, in plumbing it can't be used for pipes carrying drinking water, but i think it can be used for things like lead flashing. john
  18. Hi.   I've had a shuttle plus for some years now and I like it. Have had quite a few pilot induced prangs but it still comes back for more. Over the years have upgraded some of the plastic parts with metal parts from Quick UK - spares quite reasonable and quick service. Had some severe crashes but the original canopy still in one piece. I've had no experience with the Raptor but hear good reports, I'm sure someone who flies one will give you their verdict shortly   John
  19. Grasshopper. Try Staples office supplies or any stationery store.   john
  20. I'm currently building a small rubber powered model on a "cork" notice board from Staples. Reinforced the back with hard 3mm balsa 100mm wide, nice and firm. covered the plan with cling film. When I took the tailplane off  the plan found the cyano i used had found it's way through the film and stuck to the plan. I wasn't that heavy with the cyano but it had found its way throught he pin holes where nthe pins held the wood to the plan. I'm used to using such small section wood - (1/16th strip).   John
  21. Plumbers now use cleaning strips made from a coarse grade emery type mesh strip that leaves little dust on the clean surface,  when necessary but also use "self cleaning" acid type flux paste on your averagely dirty pipe surface with good results. if not wiped with a wet cloth after the joint goes a lovely shade of green or blue.   John
  22. hI Jack   I'm not a glider guider but from what Ive learnt on this forum ailerons and flaps can be set to go up as well as down to act as airbrakes and flaps. more detailed than this  and I'm sure a proper glider man will put you right on the technical bits John
  23. Stephen.   on the rads not getting hot. At the opposite end of the rad from the control valve there is a "service" valve for engineers to use to balance the system, mostly left wide open these days as pumps are much more powerful. If yours is an older system and this valve is partially closed to balance the heat flow through the rad, dirt may have built up on the valve seating restricting the flow of water. Pull off the plastic cap and try opening the valve a bit more.   If you have a thermostatic valve remove the head and wriggle the pin on the valve GENTLY sometimes (very often) the dirt in any system can stick the valve to the seating in the summer when the temperature shuts the valve down and doesn't release when the temperature drops. Dirt in heating systems is a perennial problem for heating engineers, Additives do help but there seems to be no permanent answer.   John

Hi Boots  just a thought are you using dual conversion crystals,.   John
  25. Hi All, sorry but been away while you replied. I did try firefox a while ago but can't remember why I switched back. Have been trying Google chrome but didn't see if that was affected. I seem to return to IE probably because I've been using for so long and normally have very few problems. probably a minor glitch in the software, i think it's more likely to be at MS end. To all purposes my computer worked normally as far as I know apart from this one small hitch.   Thakns for your replies.   John
