  2. Our club has had two work parties this week to lay and roll 40tons of crushed concrete into the ruts on the track to our flying site and mow and roll the strip ready for Monday. Sounds a lot of concrete but was only just enough. Luckily we have a member with a JCB and we have a Bomag deisel powered roller. Our field is three fields off the road and has suffered badly in the last few years. John
  3. I've cobbled a team together. Not very competative but not much money to play with. Thought they would increase our allowance this year but the same as last year. John
  4. Andy, I'm one of the clubs BMFA admin and have seen twenty of the members ID's but only after the letter T which prompted my original post. I'm sure I can see what regular members can't. John
  5. It is the GBR-OP number. Very few in our club did direct with the CAA and they appear not to get new numbers until their current ones run out at the date they registered not Jan 1st.
  6. I started this post 10 days ago and since then no more members have had their CAA details updated. Seems a bit hit and miss. Only 20 members out of 100 updated. Those with A and B certificates obviously don't need the CAA numbers, but still a low number updated John

  11. Not a whinge or complaint don't worry. As our club BMFA contact I have been checking the new CAA numbers. I found some had been updated on the BMA portal, so today I started to check the list. Has any one else found that their club members with surnames T to Z have been updated but not those with letters lower than T. Seems the CAA are working backwards (with our club anyway), no wonder people are getting frustrated. John
  12. Like others I can't login as "user name or password not recognised". Asked for a password reset and waited for the email but it still hasn't arrived. Clicking on the unread posts I get to the forum and am signed in already. Teething problems. John
  13. My gripe is the many ink carytridges contain chips that stop printing when it thinks the ink is out of date. Many useless inks (genuine) that are nearly full but used rarely - main printer is a laser but won't print. John
  14. I love the way my nephews and nieces speak with their dialects. They all live around Duley and Tipton in the Black Country ( Birmingham to the uneducated) while Ilive in Sussex. I always say I would love to have a regional accent like them, but to them I have. John
  15. I like many others now have plenty of models to test fly so want to get back flying. Also as Nigel says I'm missing my other activities. I play in two tenpin bowling leagues which have stopped since last March. Even though I have still spent a fair bit on modelling, not bowling twice a week with the entailed driving 2 x 80 mile round trips my bank balance has never been so healthy, so there is a positive side to lockdown.   16. Call sign, I will look that up also. The rubber tiles I have were designed to go on concrete workshop floors for comfort. Perhaps I should get rid of the carpet. Kevin, I do normally move around a bit more but didn't need to for what I was doing at the time. I'm already full of pills John
  17. Lee. It is simply unscrew the old one and screwing the new one on assuming the threads are the same, they do vary from maker to maker. Remember to make sure the control surface is centralised with the control stick and trim at neutral after fitting. John
  18. Doc. Just looked that up. A backless version of my barstool really. I'll have to look into raising my stool. My bench is fitted on top of standard kitchen unit so just a tad too high to sit at and work over the bench when building, but ok for assembly. John

Normally when working on a plane I get quite a bit of movement due to wanting tools etc that are not to hand or bending down to pick up the constant flow of screws and small bits I keep dropping, so not static at all. Doc. I'll have to look that up as I've never heard of a saddle stool. Thanks for your thoughts. John
  20. Broken Pro. Thanks for that. it's what I thought but their method seemd a bit complicated. Have used cheap Jigs without too much success. Only tried to work on one leg at the moment and the vertical stop at the front is a bit loose on the bar. Shouldn't take too much sorting Phil Green. I have made up a vanessa jig and it has worked well on my latest medium weight model but was very difficult on my much heavier P51 to get set up and instal the model on my own Thanks for your replies.   21. Hi, Having got too many models ready to fly and not being allowed to go, I have ventured in to ply display models. I have made a few cheapie models and now splashed out on some good quality ones. I spent an hour and a half the other day standing in the workshop as it was easier than sitting (I have a swivel bar stool but the bench height is not the best). At the end of the session I could hardly move having stood in virtually one place for all that time. I have arthiritis in one knee and the other was replaced 5 years ago. I have noticed before that if I don't move the new knee stiffens up, no problem when I get moving again. The workshop floor is loft grade boarding over the standard floor and insulation panels, with half inch thick rubber tiles on top. Where I stand at the bench also has 2 layers of foam backed carpet as a mat to stand on. I would have thought that would be comfortable enough. How do the rest of you get on? John
  22. Hi, Has anyone used this balancer jig please?. It assembles easily but having trouble with deciding how to fit the scale markings to the arms. The instructions state - move the stops until they touch the central pivot and making sure the arm is level mark the arm. This equates to the 45mm position. Doing this as I read it means the scale overhangs the arm by some 40 mm. If I just stick the scale on the arm with the zero point (marked on the scale sticker) in line with the pivot point, the scale fits the arm and the 45mm mark aligns with the scale. I don't want to keep sticking the scale on and removing it in case it tears or stretches. Just a little bit confused. John edited for an omission   Edited By John Tee on 14/01/2021 17:20:18
