  1. Beautiful day here in Halifax in Gods Own County................... managed ti get three flights in on the Sbach as the sun was rising. Pretty nippy though - the car said it was -3 or -3.5 Brrrrr !!! GG
  2. Real pea-souper in Haifax this morning - shame as it's not too cold (1C) and very calm GG
  3. Managed to get some stick time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning............. That AS3X Sbach is just brilliant; although there's a gulf of performance using the eflight LiPo and some Turnigy ones. Surprisingly, the Turnigy ones are noticeably better. The HK Spad is teaching me to turn using Rudder and Aileron and th little ParkZone micro T-28 is wonderfully relaxing. Looks OK out so will pop to the park in 10 mins or so............. GG
  4. Took my AS3X Sbach to thge park on the way between work sites yesterday a.m. - 'twas -3 degrees ! I'd taken three batteries with me but had to stop half way through the first one as my fingers were frozen. Not literally Love early morning light, but not too keen on the cold.... GG
  5. yes please. Except fuel tubing........... not sure electrons will flow through that ! GG
  6. This is interesting. I had a DX6i tht I used with all sorts of compatable receivers for a couple of years with nom issues at all. A few months ago I got a DX7s and have since suffered 2 unexplained complete losses of control. I'd put it down to not using Spekky Rx's - one was an Orange one and I can;t recall the make of the other ....and was just starting the process of taking any others out and relacing with genuine Spekky Rxs............... think I'll mosy on to the HH web site first ! GG
  7. It's an interesting one, and the comments and responses seem to indicate that, like me, most poeple fly most things !. Typically, I'll bung in the car: WOT4 (60FS), Back Horse Yak 54 (60TS) if I go t th main filed - not been for months though ! Elektro Junior S, ST FW190, Mini Ultra Stik, Jamara Spacewalker (small electric), Webbit, FMS Tempest, Hobby King Spad, As3X Sbach, UMS Trojan. Most days I fly my mcpx and occsionnally I'll fly my Blade Huey in the garden. VERY occasionally, I'll also zoom about in the RC car GG
  8. Similarly, I had a DX6i which was an excellent piece of kit. Not at all cheap and nasty. In my opinion. Neither do I find my DX7S "useless for helis" - it flies my Huey and mcpx perfectly well. Perhaps for some, it's actually 'limited' rather than 'useless'. Good job we aren't in the good ole US of A or one of their million litigators may find the title libellous........ GG
  9. Mine arrived Wednesday ............ not too sure if that was actually ahead of seeing it in Smiths ............... Looks like Autogyros is a hot topic as it's almost ubiquitous in the mags ! Some good stuff for everyone this month I think. Not too sure about the survey on page 9 - I'm sure when I was in school, you couldn't have 138% of respondents
  10. No, HobbyKing isn't killing off local shops - how can they ? They're simply providing a choice; if we choose to take it, and LHS can't compete, then the LHS will close. If we value the 'know-how' and personal service, and being able to handle a product before buying, so choosing to use the LHS instead of HobbyKing, then the LHS will stay open. Pretty much like Japanese motorcycle industry killing british bike manufacturere; and the car industry. And electronics etc. etc.. Evolve or die is the way of the world - LHS has to offer something that make people want to pay a premium............. My black and white opinion. GG
  11. I have bought hat seems to be a small amount of stuff from HobbyKing and get exactly what's described, what's reviewed, and what I expect. I have seen a number of things that look great but, reading the reviews, decide against it. I think we should give HK a huge amont of credit for letting their buyers post real life experiences and views - I don't see any form of moderation or them trying to 'cover-up' any issues. Great big positive there ! I don't expect a rolls royce product for Hyundai money. I do expect that it will be fit for purpose and, so far, everything has been. So, for example, I know that I won't get servos that are as accurate and long-lasting as those, from say, Savox; I don't expect the moulding quality to be as good as an EFlite product. But, I would expect things to work. Retracts may not, for example, last long..... but I like many other, have had much much more expensive ARTFs where the undercarriage arrangement is complete dross, for example...... But we make that choice and if we constantly bash them for it, we're the ones that will lose out in the long run. They'll either put their prices up, and we'll moan, or they'll close, and we'll moan. Having said that, if something doesn't work, I woud expect it to be fixed in the most practical way. I do think we are generally far too quick to air our grievances in public - and that's not a comment aimed at any individual - ust a general observation. I must say I find it interesting that a shop can afford to give a 20% discount on a regukar basis (an earlier post) ........... does that mean they'e over priced in the first place ? GG
  12. Wet and windy in my neck o't woods.............. Restricted to flying my mcpx around the xmas tree. Fun until I wondered what it's be like in the semi-dark, lit by the xmas tree lights and the blue lights of the control board reflecting off the inside of the silver canopy. Broken tail boom, broken fin .......... Fixed now with solid carbon rod boom, but much scruifier with the wires to tail motor outside the tail boom, and no fin. Flies OK though GG
  13. I have a Jen 56 or 57 - powerful and quiet........... but I also strruggle to get a good transition from idle. My recollection from the posts at the time was that they are quite difficult to get set up correctly at fiorst, but then decent. I'd have to contract thyat with my experioence of other 'cheap' engines - ASP's of which I have two that have always performed faultlessly. GG
  14. I have a DX7S - love it. Does more than I think I'l ever need I'm a bit confused about the comments of throttle on monitor being the 'wrong way'.......... does this mean that when you move the throttle stick up, you'd expect the throttle 'bar' display to move left to right, but it moves right to left ? (or vice versa) Excuse my possible stupidity, but does that matter ? I tend to only use the displays when putting in a mix so I can get an idea of what will happen, without having to use the plane itself during initial set up. Is these something I'm missing ? GG
  15. Hi Guys... Necafe 37 says he's a newbie so I think those nice aerobatic jobbies will probably have to wait. As will anything too fragile (depron) I guess. The mini-swift looks good but possibly to fast ? Nescafe37 - I think for anything needing a 2200 3s, you'll need a pretty big park ! And have to be very carefful to avoid dog walkers AXN floater from HobbyKing seems to get good reviews. Mowermans V Trainer suggestion is a good one - ugly but flies well ! Not you Roy ................... GG
  16. Seen this on Daily Mail website ..... **LINK** reasonably balanced - although no doubt the commenst won't be ! GG
  17. I saw itand thought ”ooh, nice”. Saw the price and quickly changed my mind .... Maybe you don't always getwhat you payfor ! GG
  18. I had one and changed to brushless. Used typhoon motor and 60amp esc. Changed pinion- can't remember tedth i am afraid but had to experiment. Also needed to make a new mount for motor. Was ok with nicad/nimh but balancing a real problem with lipos - couldn't manage it with robinson body without cutting huge hole in bottom. Put a squirrell body from darth dark on it. Nice heli for pottering with but there will be loads out there better now..... GG
  19. You can mount the motor from the back by screwing to that firewall. Or from the front by sticking the disk with holes onto the front of the cowl ...... if the holes are in the right place of course ! The circle thing with a great big hole (must be a better name for it !) can be used on the front of the cowl to finish it off nicely. GG
  20. I couild level the same commenst at my Jamara Spacewalker. I enjoy building so was looking forward to it but it was similarly disappointing. I've built a number of kits but I had a few head-scratching moments - and also 'bodged' a few things where I couldnt work out what to do. And I completely abandoned the undercarriage - if I'd managed to get that right I'd have wanted an 'A' level in wire-beding ! Used an aluminium one instead. I also left the spats off as by the time they're sanded to roughly similar shapes, the feel about a micron thick. I think I had to download/print my own documentation as well................. There was also very little hardware included. Finished article looks nice and flies OK, but feels rather heavy. So, ovefrpriced, overweight, frustrating build. Poor comparison with previous kit which was a SIG Ultimate FunFly - a complete joy in all aspects. GG (living up to my moniker)
  21. Hi David Yes, when I posted they were out of stock  But now they have stock and one arrived yesterday afternoon !!  First impressions ? Kit looks nice but instructions are pretyy poor. And I have to actually bend the undercarriage myself ..........................  Might do a build log. Unlikely to be starting it for a few days though.  GG
  22. Does anyone know of anywhere that has Jamara Spacewalker kits in stock ? GG
  23. Re Glue ..............   I always thought PVA was less brittle than Cyano ?   GG
  24. We'll probably have to hang on a few years ...........   http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-14852073   GG
