  1. If you lived near me, you'd be accompanied by the sound of ic-powered chain saws, lawnmowers, leaf blowers, strimmers, and farm machinery. Also passing a number of workshops heated by diesel. And a number of houses with uc generators because the occupants have health issues that would become critical in a power cut like the 19 hour one we experienced a few days ago. 'If you think about it', ic powered planes are a tiny tiny portion of the fosssil fuel users. And by wanting to ban certain aspects of the hobby, you're most certainly not on 'my side'. P.S. nobody will force you to buy a £30k electric car. From a certain point all NEW cars will be electric - there will still be millions of ic powered cars on the roads. And lots for sale.....
  2. It's just another of Arthur's sweeping statements fuelled by a belief that he is entirely in tune with the majority of people on the planet.
  3. I keep a log of my planes, and their flights, in an Access database. It's nowhere near as comprehensive as some others though.
  4. The very purpose of the thread IS to discuss the term Park Flyer. Many individuals have explained this to you but you refuse to acknowledge this. That's fine. You're entitled to your views. I don't know in what grounds you think many modellers don't realise flying in areas designated as parks takes place...... I expect the vast majority of modellers knows it happens, irrespective if whether it's allowed, or safe. I myself often flew in my local park, but I only flew slow models under 16oz, and only until the dog walkers arrived. I wouldn't have even thought for a moment to fly, for example a Riot, or those Tower Hobbies planes....... I refused to join one local club previously as they flew, with the council's agreement, on a site that was shared with the general public. I don't know of many councils that encourage model flying. The vast majority of parks near where I have lived in my model flying career have either been patently unsuitable, or it has been actually prohibited. Personally, I think Warwick council are very much in the minority - but I have no evidence to back up this opinion. I'm sure you could list more of the 'many' councils like Warwick. The vast majority of flyers I have cone across encourage safe model flying at ANY appropriate location - I can only recall a very few who do not share this view. I'd point out, again, that not all electric planes are quiet - I have owned a number that are far louder than some of my four stroke ic planes. It only takes someone to make a nuisance of themselves with such planes to make people change their minds. I really don't understand why you want the CAA to introduce more complex regulations based on some arbitrary classification..... seems a particularly selfish point of view. Anyway, that's my final contribution to this rather pointless discussion.
  5. My definition of a park flyer is something that I wouldn't be overly concerned at being hit by. That certainly excludes a Riot. Even one flown by a competent pilot.
  6. @toto I can't see how your blown esc can possibly have affected your transmitter.... just a coincidence so don't worry about that
  7. The term Park Flyer means just that - a typically toy sized device to fly in the park (where bye-laws allow it and there is nobody uninvolved around). I think it's a US term but as they have parks as big as our counties, what they call a park flyer differs greatly. One of my club mates has a number of multi engine foam models that are plug and play, and considerably heavier than some of my ic models. To fly one anywhere other than a proper flying site would be madness. So plug and play foamy does not equal park flyer. Although you say you have no knowledge or interest in watts, amps etc. a basic knowledge would be useful even for your Riot .... what if you can't find a replacement prop of the exact size if you break it? What if you meed to replace the motor and there are none in stock? (Leccyfler beat me by seconds.....)
  8. @toto recalibrating an esc can't gave had any effect on your tx - it's just teaching the esc what 0 and 100% throttle signals look like. It's just coincidence.
  9. If the main rx has a socket, I always fit a satellite, irrespective of model size/weight/material
  10. Now happily living in a small village in the East Riding Of Yorkshire, a couple of miles from the coast 🙂
  11. Wide open spaces, much cheaper property and land prices
  12. Not good if you have children from multiple relationships..... and a wife....
  13. Lol. We considered moving to central France when I retired, but the complexities of the inheritance laws put us off.......
  14. If Bridlington's too far, France certainly is! I only mentioned a village hall as they are surprisingly cheap compared to sports centre halls, for example.
  15. A Riot is most certainly NOT a park flyer.......
  16. Yup. Quite spoilt. Our indoor sessions are £5 for 90 mins (or more if you arrive 10/15 mins early). Typically only half a dozen of us so no slots - just fly as much as you want/dare......
  17. Depends how much space they need to fill I guess...... must be a challenge in this day and age. I have views on some articles too - but if I don't like them, I don't read them 🙂 If it ended up that I skipped more than I read, I'd make my views known. As I did about the number of articles with text on coloured backgrounds.
  18. No video on your phone toto? Good luck for today - windy down here on East Riding Of Yorkshire coast. I'll be removing all traces of the hobby from the house before my wife gets home from Iceland.....
  19. I really don't understand why people are so derogatory about elements of the hobby that don't "float their boat"...... we have enough challenges already. That 'toy helicopter' may start someone's journey to a large turbine powered helicopter.... Many members of my club were introduced to the hobby by 'foamies', and continue to enjoy them.... There are certainly planes accessible to all now that would never have been dreamed of 15 years ago, and that would not be available in other materials. If it flies, and it makes its owner happy, it's a winner in my book. (I fly ic and electric. I have helicopters, multi-rotors and planes. I have foamies and crunchies. I have had mouldies. I fly indoors and out. I welcome anyone to this great hobby, whatever they choose to fly, or read about)
  20. Possibly, yes. As others have suggested, get a plane and double your flight time! Alternatively, once you meet a few fellow heli fliers, look into hiring e a small village hall - they can be surprisingly cheap (£6 an hour plus heating for our village hall).
  21. Unless you fit some better after market silencer to those Stingers, you'll easily hear any change in engine performance/revs....... and you won't need to take your eyes off the model.
  22. @toto, presumably you still have fuel tube, glow stick etc. from your earlier experiences....
  23. Ah. Earlier in the week the forecast was worse so I wouldn't want you to charge, then discharge lots of batteries unnecessarily.... Fingers crossed for progress in one way or another.
