  1. Well, complete brain fade on my part. No idea why I thought you were asking about the Valiant! I had an FA82 in mine - nice aeros but not enough for prop hanging shenanigans..... servis in the tail. A 90 2 stroke should do the job.
  2. Cheers John, added interest in what was, fir me, a pretty unengaging season.
  3. No provision for rear servos in the Valiant..... there is in the Ultrastick though....
  4. There must be other planes more suited for this type of flying - an H9 Ultrastik perhaps, with at least a 90 2 stroke.....
  5. Just luck of the draw... someone, somewhere will have had an even better bargain.
  6. Mine has a 90 four stroke in it, and seems a perfect match - not indefinite vertical but certainly enough for nice big loops. I think anything bigger/more powerful would be overkill - it's not a pylon racer. (previously I tried a 70 and 82 four stroke - both left it a little underpowered)
  7. Yup, operating from a warehouse near Huddersfield I think.
  8. Dark text on dark background is akin to deliberately flying a camouflaged warbird against a background of trees. That's just bad practice and tends not to be a choice, but a necessity.
  9. They understand the age demographic - that's why we get flyers for old people insurance, and coffins. 🙂 Possibly, they want to increase sales to younger people so want a fresh vibrant look - "you, young people, do you prefer this layout, or this?" Has anyone on here, their existing audience, ever been involved in any research? Younger people are very much in the minority in our hobby (in my experience), and younger people don't tend to buy magazines - they don't want/need to restrict themselves, and just go on-line (my 23 year old son hasn't bought/asked for a magazine since he went online at about 10). Personally, I think they'd be better off finding out why many of the people on this forum don't actually buy the magazine. Not sure anyone said everyone is against this months layout - it may well be the silent majority like it. Getting layout and content right is a tricky task!
  10. Absolutely your prerogative.....
  11. yup, no glue required. Mine was £165, delivered, about a month ago - they are £220 on Century web site. Eeek!
  12. Shame. I always had great service from them...
  13. Not sure if this applies (possibly clarified in another thread) but you also need: a flying club BMFA membership/insurance CAA registration. Happy landings!
  14. We don't have any charging facilities at our field. I take about half a dozen packs for each plane I take. If there are people about, that's plenty 'cos of all the chat; if no people are about, it's enough to scratch the itch. I never field charge, but a number of my flying chums do - they all lug great big 'leisure batteries' around. I used to field charge from my car using the cigarette lighter/leisure output. I'd only charge half a dozen with the engine off. When finding a charger, one that can use AC or DC is useful, as it gives you choice.
  15. I snuck out for a few hours this afternoon, after the rain finally stopped. Moderate southerly (pants for our field). Very gloomy so just stuck to the Riot - would have lost the Hawk and have more invested in the Valiant. I did want to run the engine in on my P47 but didn't trust the rain.....
  16. I like it, flies nicely on a 60 FS, bit overpowered on a 70 FS. Does any aeros I am capable of; quite slippery for a bipe. Deffo designed for electric, or inverted 2 stroke. Only recall one build issue - a control guide was not anchored properly so needed a bit of film to be removed to allow a fix (I think there was one other niggle but it must have been minor because I have forgotten what it was!) Pros Pretty (well, I think so), with good colour scheme Nicely built Decent hardware Flies really nicely Fits in the car assembled Cons Cabanes are a bit soft Not much cowl left if you fit a four stoke Tank area is a little small.
  17. Depends what type of plane you want really..... the Seagull P47 builds nicely but is quite a lump!
  18. 3s 2200's are fine - you may need to remove part of the plastic tray in the battery bay to make them fit without putting strain on the hatch. 35C continuous discharge means they can cope with a constant current draw of 35 x 2.2 = 77 amps, certainly enough for the Riot as the esc is rated for far less current. (Take c ratings with a pinch of salt as they are often wildly exaggerated!) I have none of that make of battery so the only comment I can make is regarding the XT connector. My Riot had Deans connectors so you'll either need to solder a new connector to the esc, or buy an adapter. Don't worry about 'cooking' it - I often fly 6+ packs back to back..... There are a few things you may want to think about doing: The plastic tray in the battery bay (see above) The axles are very soft The wheels are very hard There is a lump of steel in front of the battery bay - removing it makes it more 'lively' The control clevises are pretty brittle My wing joining tube 'rattles' in the wing..... Increase control throws Spinner can have poor balance (all 3 in my club were!) Better velcro for battery retention. Sounds like I don't like it but that's not the case - I bought mine to replace a foamy Wots Wot and love it!
  19. Yesterday, the weather forecast said "put your outside planes away because the weather is going to be pants for a week". It's lovely this morning!
  20. SLEC have hatch latches, various types, in stock.......
  21. My copy dropped through my letterbox yesterday. Haven't read it all yet - but a quick flick shows I'll enjoy it. Apart from 2 things: a) I see the cover price is now £6.35! Not sure if it has been that price before but it's getting expensive..... b) there seems to be a growing trend for black text on coloured (usually blue) background. I can see that this means more of an image can be shown, but it makes it very difficult for me to read (before I retired, I had a stint in writing training material for a major bank and we were always hammered if we used dark text on a dark background.....). I'm sure I'm not the only one this affects given our age demographic.
  22. That's a good service life! My foamies look very tired in less time than that.....
  23. If it makes it easier, why not. As Don says, you can always turn it off. No flying here - been foggy for a few days. I could have flown some tiddlers in tiny circuits I suppose....... pottered instead.
  24. Having flown both kits, I can't tell the difference tbh - I'm just an average pilot so the subtleties are probably lost on me. Both flew on SC70FS - great all round sports models. I prefer the look of the tapered wings.....
