  1. I have the Viper and Hawk (my second Hawk).... brilliant fliers on cheap-as-chips LiPos. Hope they bring out some more. Arrows seem to be coming out with hit after hit......
  2. A small low wing private aircraft flew over a few days ago, engine idling. He got lower and lower, with just an occasional blip of throttle. Seemed to be aiming for our flying field. When he got loser, he seemed to spot it was not really designed for 1:1 models, opened the throttle and set off in the direction of an airfield about 5 miles away........
  3. Curves was my initial thought but I've not used tgem luch..... Now I know how to achieve what I want, I will look at Curves some more, as I think a curve on a throttle/ele mix on another plane may be useful as well ๐Ÿ™‚
  4. Well, I seem to have managed it. I set a logical switch for switch B in the middle, and one for switch B down (this didn't work by checking switch B down - I had to check for switch B NOT being up and NOT being central). I used the Source for Ele/Flap mix at half flap as the first logical switch; Source for second mix being second logical switch. Boom!
  5. Hope posting in this thread is OK - I use EdgetTX but I'd imagine the solution would be the same! I have 2 position flaps on Switch B: Switch up = no flap Switch middle = half flap Switch down = full flap I have a delay of 2 secs as they are pretty powerful I need Elevator compensation of 5% on half flap, and 10% on full flap - both need the same 2 second delay as the flaps. Whatever I do with weights, offsets, sources, Add/Replace, I can't get both mixes to work - either one does, or the other, but never both. Anyone know how I can achieve what I want? TIA
  6. Available on Amazon..... MINGSTORE 22 In 1 RC USB Flight Simulator With Cables For G7 Phoenix 5.0 Aerofly XTR VRC FPV Racing : AmazonSmile: Toys & Games
  7. I have Realflight (v7 I think), and Phoenix on my W10 Surface, and used a DX6i. Bought a cheapo package off ebay for about ยฃ15 - came with a CD, several sims, a cable. Loaded easily, worked fine (I couldn't get Reflex to work but I think that's user error!). I spent a few hours upgrading on line, and downloading later versions, additional planes and locations. Although Phoenix is no longer in production, or supported, there still seems quite an active user base creating, and tweaking, planes that can be downloaded. I prefer both Phoenix and Realflight to Clearview tbh.
  8. Thanks for the additional.info. It helps us. So, the plan is to learn to fly at a club, then once a certain level of competency is reached, fly a small craft in a different location. This small craft may be self-built or ready made. Sounds sensible. Personally, I'd still recommend biying something small rather tgan build your first small plane, but it's not an impossible aim. Re those small planes you linked, I have only seen one and it was pretty fast and responsive... I don't have any small planes anymore so cab't really help. Back to transmitters.... buying second hand has an additional level of jeopardy if bought off ebay, FaceBook etc., less so if bought off a clubmate or proper shop. I'd avoid anything from a non-mainstream set - if you can't find lots of info about it online, it's probably worth avoiding. Online research will also tell you what to look for. Also, take a look at cost for receivers etc., as that can add significant cost going forwards. Feel frre to keep checking in and asking questions...
  9. In stark contrast, while I was watching it, I was convinced I'd be scoring badly! I know the track is supposed to limit overtaking (seems like 90% of tracks do!) but I like it. Also like the light entertainment provided by Ferrari and Alpha Tauri....... I have absolutely no idea what Ferrari can do to make things better - seemingly, neither do they! At least CL finally got back on the podium. MV is certainly peerless this year, a perfect match of man and machinery, much as it pains me to say.
  10. @DuncanM23 Sounds like you've been fed some duff info re the regulations we need to comply with. The best advice, coming from many experienced flies, is 'go to a club and get some proper tuition'. It will save you time and money, and you may make some new friends.
  11. I can get to the 'Search' page from Google, but going any further gives that Error 500 message, irrespective of browsee, device, or cache state. Hopefully an Outerzone bos will spot and fix it.
  12. Works for me - unless I use the link in this thread....
  13. We like to teach basics on club trainer, which has 2 x txs. Then they can go their own way after that...
  14. +1 for visiting a club. Choosing a transmitter is not an easy task. When you do visit a club, you'll find many opinions, some very strong, on what's 'the best' to buy. I think it comes down to: Functionality - do you need lots of bells and whistles? Cost - how much can you afford now, and in the future (I think EVERYONE outgrows their initial purchase) Feel - transmitters can feel very different in many aspects Support - if a clubmate has a similar transmitter (or nowadays one with similar programming), it may help, although YouTube is a great resource Operating system - on some makes, making changes to things like the direction a servo moves is a simple operation; on others, it's more complex. I's a bit like choosing a car or partner, and everyone believes they have 100% made the correct choice! My current transmitter is a Radiomaster TX16S, with EdgeTtX; and I have a Taranis X9D as a backup. To be honest, I bought the TX16 as a backup for the Taranis, but preferred its colour touch screen...... It was relatively cheap, hugely functionally rich (I'll never run out of channels, or be unable to do something I need/want), and allows me to use receives and 'bind and fly' models from other manufacturers. Feels OK in the hand but nowhere near as 'quality' as, say, Futaba. Previously, I had Spektrum gear for years, but I needed to do some things my old Txs would not do, and their prices had increased greatly over the years. Prior to that, I have used various other makes, all of which served me well. None have been 'rubbish' - a term often used to describe a make other than that a flier currently uses! Visit a club, visit a model shop (if you can find one). Feel free to come and ask again ๐Ÿ™‚ Re a model, I'd avoid building you own for your first model as it's so easy to build in faults that will make it difficult, or impossible, to fly. My advice would be to get a ready made, electric powered, high wing foam model..... the club will advise! Good luck! Keep checking in on us.......
  15. I don't find it strange at all. Failsafe is just one of the items in the checklist, perhaps we need someone to ensure that ALL the above checks have been undertaken..... I can't imagine any club member wanting to do that, or have that done to them. At the end of the day, it's personal responsibility, and I'm pretty certain it would not be seen as 'help' by any experienced modeller. (Checking out a model before a maiden is a different kettle of fish...)
  16. Out again this afternoon - on my own for all but 30 mins. Put another half dozen flights on the Double Trouble - it's a real hoot! So much so that I'll probably not bother fixing my foamy Wots Wot and retire it after 700+ flights... Highly recommend the DT - assembles well, flies nicely, and fits in the car in one piece. I think 10cc ic is my current 'sweet spot'!
  17. The 'barrier' in our club seems to be that previous safety officers didn't appear yo actually do anything! Should have heard the debate about moving the pits area back a few yards because I felt it was too close to the main runway! Our small number of members like the club's 'laid back' attitude - something I'd like us to keep whilst being more pro-active about safety. I reckon I'll probably need to tell everyone of the intention to check for CAA number and failsafe operation in advance..... AFTER I get the pilots box moved/amended to accommodate our new runway!
  18. Looks like Jeremy Clarkson's been at that field!
  19. As our club Safety Officer, I think it's a great idea! I think I may see if I can change our club rules to allow it - just 'doing it' would upset some old, opinionated flying chums......... even getting them to stand in the pilots box requires a cattle prod, and gets dirty looks ๐Ÿคจ
  20. I suspect all our ic fliers are OK, but would not be hugely surprised if some leccy planes needed attention.. . Only 'cos leccy seems to be more 'plug and play'. Before anyone piles in, I'm not knocking electric planes - I have a few dozen!
