  1. Grabbed a copy at the weekend from WHSmith , seems well worth the £4.99
  2. I am a revertee back to Win 7 . Thought I would give it a go yesterday on my spare Asus Netbook running Win7 starter as WIn 10 would give me a Win10 Home which is a bit of an upgrade . Took about 4-5 hours to finish The Windows10 driver installed by the upgrade doesn't seem compatible with the graphics chip , causing lower than native resolution which would not adjust higher .so screen res incorrect with the attendant viewing issues Getting late , getting tired, downloaded win 7 drivers from Asus site - no Win10 drivers listed ( I think I ought to have tried Win 8.1 drivers ) and a lot of looping later , res ok but shutting down shortly after loading up. Very tired by now , managed to boot into safe mode ( shift F8 ) and used the revert to previous version option, cant be fussed to try Win8.1 drivers , should have worked straight off As others have said , wait - I usually do but on this occasion I gave it a try .
  3. There are also many positive multirotor news items
  4. Posted by Chuck Plains on 28/07/2015 09:58:41: Airplane starring Leslie Neilsen! Heh, you knew some idiot would say that, so I thought I'd get it in early. I'm that idiot , on page two of the thread!
  5. Off the top of my head- those that I can remember Worst - Wings of the Apache closely followed by Top Gun  - both unintentionally ridiculous IMO Best , Airplane !   intentionally ridiculous and hilarious   Edited By Bravo Delta on 27/07/2015 18:25:53 Edited By Bravo Delta on 27/07/2015 18:26:28
  6. Ah that's better, just 3S and 9x4.5 prop today to start with and now flies instead of struggles!
  7. Got up un-naturally early for a Sunday to get a bit of flying in before the forecast rain at 10:00am , pretty accurate forecast !
  8. Now that is not under-powered ! Snazzy covering / paint job I am waiting for the weather / opportunity to get out and fly mine now that I am getting a much more reasonable static 300W on a 3S battery with a 9X4.5 prop , Max I can go to is with a 3S is 10X5 prop @ 372W , 34Amps is a bit close to the quoted max current rating of the motor @ 35Amps On a 4S with 8X4 its static 417W @ 29A so looking forward to trying that
  9. I thought my used cheap Laser Arrow seemed a bit underpowered On a 3S its meant to be fairly fast but was barely struggling into the air at launch The motor and ESC were getting hot and the motor rather noisy, and struggling sometimes to start spinning On 3S the power max was puny , just getting 100-140 Watts appx on variety of props On a 4S max was 200W with a 8X4 and even going to 10x5 was 250W ESC was the stock Skywalker 40AMP , Motor a Turnigy 1450kv 35/36 -5 which was not the original type fitted as stock ( 1400kv orig spec ) Looking at the Turnigy motor specs , the ESC looks under-rated for the motor , and was noisy due to a loose magnet so some mechanically produced heat there methinks and needed replacing whatever I replaced this with a 1250KV of the same type as its max current draw is rated at 35amps to give it a go, using a hammer on a brand-new motor was interesting to reverse the shaft as motor is mounted behind firewall Still low thrust, so off with the ESC and its heatshrink cover and the issue was obvious. Two FETs had blown , the physical evidence clear to see. So one phase was not working / low output , surprising it was working at all Of course the ESC was in my sights a a possible culprit but the motor needed replacing anyway Anyhoo , now have a Turnigy 60A Esc waiting for me to fit the connectors and try again! May be able to glue the 1450KV motor magnets back in at some point , but if I get the Delta flying satisfactorily on the 1250Kv I needn't bother
  10. Hi Rich , your link doesn't seem to point to the correct location Its been a while since I have flown my Hubsans, and forgive me if you have already tried these things but if you have done the calibration on a level surface, and get drift in the same direction , and have tried putting packing under one side of the Quad and re-calibrated - as per the instruction book and it still drifts , have you tried adjusting the trim when in flight ? Even indoors, there are air currents which tend to induce drifting to a certain extent , and its own prop wash may affect it too especially near surfaces and walls
  11. I will be there on the Saturday, last year went for the first time as a very green attendee.
  12. Not much flying in the last few weeks due to wind/drizzle/rain, apart for a great Sunday morning a few weeks ago with a busy field and doing more spectating than flying due to great aircraft such as a Boomerang Jet superbly flown and a maiden of a great looking Hawker Typhoon warbird. Decided to get down to the club field this morning despite the higher than normally comfortable winds/ gusts and try and get my newly acquired but well used Axion Laser Arrow Delta into the air, ( having tried to lone hand launch last week for the first time ever with a half roll and dive directly into the ground ) Anyway, only one at the club and having gone through and dispensed with the experimental and unsatisfactory stage of fitting tricicle landing gear to it, I got it lone hand launched into a pretty brisk wind, and three batteries worth of flying later came away with a big grin on my face. Though a bit under-powered ,previous owner had 4S - I have 3S  and a handful in the wind it looked good in the air and was great fun.     Edited By Bravo Delta on 21/06/2015 13:10:28 Edited By Bravo Delta on 21/06/2015 13:10:42
  13. Nice Flying! just watch for those Tie Fighters on your Six!
  14. As an owner of both Wot4 Foam-E and Acro-Wot Foam-E There is no hesitation in saying the Acro-Wot is the better choice. I like both but I find the Acro-Wot lands better ,is less prone to nose-overs when landing , and the undercarriage mounting seems less prone to breaking off when hitting those ruts, ( Wot4 has had many repairs to the undercarriage) . I think the Acro-Wot looks better too

Posted by PatMc on 27/05/2015 21:11:34: Posted by Bravo Delta on 27/05/2015 20:05:32: I wouldn't think there would be much dissent in the assertion that the experience of watching a scale/semi scale aircraft that is based upon a prop driven full size aircraft is much better if it has an IC engine. That seems an absurd statement to make. I flew IC models & gliders from about 1957 until about 8 - 10 years ago. Now I'm perfectly happy to fly only electric powered models & gliders. If others prefer IC that's their choice, good luck to them. As far as I'm concerned the source of power that turns the prop makes absolutey no difference to the validity of the model. 'Absurd' seems a little strong. So at least one dissenter to my assumption that a scale/semi scale aircraft that is based upon a prop driven full size aircraft is a better experience as a spectator if it has an IC engine. A large factor is that it is making the right 'noise' and more in keeping with the 'scaleness' of the model methinks . Its different if the full size its based on is a glider or Leccy or other powered ! Nowhere am I casting aspersions on any Electric powered validity - crikey , I fly Leccy exclusively myself , just commenting I thought IC was a better experience ( subjective ) in the narrow confines I commented on . I am quite happy to watch / fly a semi/scale Leccy powered plane based on a Piston engine full size , however I stick to my subjective opinion that same model would be better ( sound better ) with an IC engine     Edited By Bravo Delta on 27/05/2015 23:55:52
  16. I wouldn't think there would be much dissent in the assertion that the experience of watching a scale/semi scale aircraft that is based upon a prop driven full size aircraft is much better if it has an IC engine. Hats off to those who fly/fettle/build these,I am often in awe of the skill and dedication shown, and I love to watch IC powered models. Leccy power was a viable and more accessible alternative to IC for starting fixed wing flying for me last year. IC is great , I can see its charms , but at the moment its Leccy for me.
  17. Tonight ( Tuesday ) 'Britains Greatest Pilot ' BBC Four 10:00 PM "..Eric 'Winkle ' Brown 95 , recounts his flying experiences and adventures up to and during the Second World War'
  18. Up early last couple of Mondays as the usual Sundays have been poor for flying , good morning today - sunny skies and the higher gusts forecast didn't show up
  19. Went out early this morning to the club field to try and beat the forecast wind and gustiness later on in the morning . Could feel the wind starting to pick up a bit just before take off , then once airborne the gusts picked up which wasn't so good as the foam Acro-Wot its fairly sensitive to higher wind / gust speeds and hampers smooth flying . Got my 6 minutes stick time before calling it a rather quick day
  20. As a teenager I was at an ATC annual camp at RAF Linton-on-Ouse that had a training squadron of Jet Provosts stationed there A memory burned into my mind was witnessing what must have been part of a display practice where a Lighting was surrounded by a diamond of four Jet Provosts that did a low pass on the runway line , I watched awestruck as the Lightning then pulled up vertically out of the diamond and did its famous vertical climb . I have had a special place in my heart for the Lightning ever since what an incredible looking and performing Aircraft!
  21. Had a very Aviation oriented day yesterday . Early morning calm conditions made the stick-time on the Acro-Wot more fruitful. Then a trip up to IWM Duxford where we were treated to an Apache doing circuits and touch-and-go's for quite some time . Not sure what it was doing , but it was nice seeing something in the air to complement the static displays.
  22. Nice Calm morning in Hertfordshire , able to get some great stick time on the Foam Acro-Wot without having to fight the gusts . Only two of us this morning though - Easter Break probably something to do with it One of the days I wish I had more batteries .....
  23. Posted by John Lee on 28/02/2015 11:11:29: Kwick Fli 3 for me back in the 80's. As an examiner 9 out of the last 10 tests I've conducted have been with electric foam models - Acro Wot, Wot 4 & Funcub. Took my A last year flying one of those types , a Wot4 Foam-E

Yes, I blame defence for breaking my glider this afternoon. If defence hadn't been there my glider would only be in 4 pieces instead of 10!! Arf Arf ! Who has what aircraft could be a immaterial as a direct square-off between NATO and Russia could escalate into Nuclear whizz-Bangs pretty rapidly Naaah cant see them chucking buckets of instant sunshine around...... the old MAD theory still holds good One would hope so , but the opposing theory is that Generals may take first strike in order to prevent the other from first striking !
