Glue n Glaze Canopy probs
Stuart Z replied to Albert Ace's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
Hi I’ve had it take longer, depends on how thick the bead of glue was. But it normally does go clear in 24/48 hours. S -
Selecting Electric Retracts
Stuart Z replied to Stuart Z's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
Bruce Sorry to hear that. My Calypso and Joker both had retracts, back in the day, and over many flights they stayed where there were put even used on grass. They were mechanical retracts if that makes a difference, but surely the only real difference is the servo pushrod? Be interesting to see what others have experienced. S -

And I thought I’d asked a daft question. There’s a lot to think about. S -

Thanks Leccyflyer. Very clear and understood. I still have a manual set but the setting up would be a pain, servoless is great. Save all the grief. S -
Selecting Electric Retracts
Stuart Z replied to Stuart Z's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
Thanks guys for the feedback. Seems like one brand is highly recommended but pricey. One question, what is the difference between “servoless and other types” Sorry, it has been a long time and never paid attention to the changes. -
May sound like a daft question. Back in the day I used manual retracts, fiddly though they were. Now, not having used retracts since, I want to get some electric retracts for a 60" pattern model. Having not bought electric retracts before I find that they seem to be made for specific models or if generic, for all sorts of prices and there are very many to choose from. I've seen everything from £20 - over £100. Given that my kit is many years old, what is best way of getting the right set up. Any help appreciated

Hole in wrong place
Stuart Z replied to Stuart Z's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
Ernie, quite right, but when I made the servo holes I hadn’t intended to fit retracts. The build has stretched over several years and changes of plan. I even thought of going electric and cut out a battery bay. But the kit is 40 odd years old and deserves to be built as originally intended. Hence the battery hatch is now glued shut and a 55AX is going up front. I’ve yet to fathom out electric retracts, never used them. Intended to use manual retracts from my retired Calypso but the idea of fitting and tuning them on wings already joined is, for me, a step too far. Still great fun and all will end up well in the end! Thanks all for your input. May be back with next challenge! S -
Hole in wrong place

Thanks Don I don’t have balsa dust as that all goes up the vacuum, (I’m asthmatic and balsa dust is a major trigger) but I do have a bottle of micro balloons which do nicely. I’d forgotten about gorilla glue. It does squeeze out of joints so would also fill space. Thanks Don & Edgeflyer -

BTW “foaming Pu glue”. Which one did you have in mind? S -
Hole in wrong place

Thanks EF pretty much what I thought, wasn’t sure on the expanding foam stuff I had. Was hoping for a simple solution but carpentry seems the best way. Anyone any thoughts? S D -
Well it had to happen! I’ve cut out servo boxes but in the wrong place! Any recommendations for best filler? I’ve got one of those tins of foam filler - but is that the best way to get strength back in the wing? Or is it best to do a balsa plug? S

FWIW I used 18mm marine ply with similar thickness of plasterboard. Glued together with evostick. Stored on edge and stays very flat but it is certainly heavy. Used similar for the fuselage jig. Both solid but as I get older they get heavier. -

Suggest always use a good filter when transferring fuel from one bottle to another. There are filter that will even remove water, try well known sales platform.

Over a minute to save the above.

I find all threads are affected. Randomly, but enough to not use the forum as much as before.

I’ve done that and cleared browser iPhone and desktop and the problem persists but only on this forum. (Regular habit). Pure chance I saw this as I’ve largely abandoned use of this forum. Not spending any more time on this.

Still good to see. Glow is largely ignored in the press these days

Good to see a positive article on glow powered flight. I’ve always have a preference for glow engines and with OS and SC returning to the market, reliable new engines are available. I know a lot of people say electric is the way forward but I personally feel otherwise. It is still a good well reasoned article. S

Had a quote on a Sportage at over £900.00. Surprisingly I continued with existing at £420.00.

I’m with BT and still having slow page loading on this forum. However no problems on other sites, including eg just been scanning the GBRCAA (F3A. forum) with no slow uploads / pages loading.

Having a few problems with access at the moment , screen refresh is slow and photos sometimes taking a time to load. But occasionally it works fine ?? Seem to be getting logged out a lot? Hey ho, it’s probably something simple but do I understand- no.
