  1. Just a note, I don't have mine fitted to a Delta or Elevon tail, I have 2 fitted to a high wing and low wing model, and working antennas forward as per instructions. Somehow your aileron and elevator are opposite, but a visual check when switched on is that a surface will lift as that axis is lifted, eg the left aileron will lift when the left wing is lifted from horizontal
  2. My logic Justin, months ago buddy, was seeing a 5 foot wingspan model, 5 to 6lb?, if its heavier then something has gone wrong, so 6lb? , a 52, 4 stroke pokes out about 700 watts, I just thought it would suit, but I will bow out to opinion on a 70, adding another 100 grams into the nose = more glide speed? Landing? And about 1100 watts? Its just me Justin, 5 foot is a 52, send us YouTube of your 91 flights and I may be converted.
  3. Right OG, there are many ways to thin spraypaint, and many guys have their favourite way of doing this. You can buy thinners ready made or make some up, and if you do their are many recipes on the internet, used by wargamers. Whatever you try to put through your airbrush, it needs to be the consistency of milk. Currently I spray acrylics mixed half and half with the following. Windowlene blue liquid glass cleaner, mixed one part to 9 parts water, with one drop of glycerine added.
  4. The guys are in the right area Scott. The slightest imbalance will be magnified and rotational way down at the floats. Assuming 100% balance and alignment of shaft, then resonance similarly rocks the floats aggressively due to their shape. Aerodynamics of floats? Downwash? Cylinders must be the obvious choice, we need the boffs Scott.
  5. Yes Robin, in series. Diodes are listed in watts (W), like our leccy stuff,
  6. Like Tom, I believe we have a board failure. Something caused the LED to fail. If you want to persue this, just replace the LED and check for dry joints. If a surface mount IC has failed completely there is little chance of replacing it, and of actually getting a replacement back on to the board. When you think a B6 charger is about £12 then repairs become uneconomic.
  7. I think you already know by now Mike that a 52 4 stroke would fly the Spitfire nicely, and either of the 40s. Check the 70 is oiled and turn it over by hand to distribute the lubricant, whilst it is in storage. The 70 will move you on in a 60 size model if there is such a beast that you like.
  8. The forward voltage drop of Diode is 0.7 volts Robin, which is in your ballpark, or just put 2 in series for 1.4v drop. Edited By Denis Watkins on 18/11/2016 16:50:11 Edited By Denis Watkins on 18/11/2016 16:59:46
  9. Doug, these hinges seem so rare, and during these lean years for manufacturers, they may be sometime out of stock, I would consider seriously paying the €12 postage from France.
  10. Apologies guys, but they have used brass carb control fittings since before WW2. Brass is easily machined, doesn't rust and is suitable, but like balsa, depron, EPP etc etc, it will break or snap in a collision. Less experienced readers learn from our mutterings.
  11. I think we are all on the right track, and with models, the ailerons tend to be most effective on the outer 3 to 4 inches of the wing. Looking at JDs model the least amount of aileron is out there at the tip, exactly where it is needed. Coupled rudder will help, as would clear plastic extensions to the rear of the outer ailerons. That does of course spoil the look of a beautiful scale model. I hate to say this, and will endure the backlash, but this model would benefit with the addition of a stabiliser. 12. As you are aware Martin, Brass is prone to chemical attack due to its irregular crystalline formula. In reality, brass has been used for years and years in this application and is not a common failure. But Brass is weak on many counts but its softness helps it remain sealed. Conversely it is no way impact resistant. It is a compromise.
  13. Just keep your initial settings very small, perhaps 20%
  14. If you have a multimeter Cliff, check the LED, set the multimeter to Diode, A triangle pointing into a bar symbol. The LED could have failed, and if it is in series, it will cut the charge current. The LED is biased so try your red and black probes both ways. If the LED is working, check the pins in the Tx output charged lead for being bent back and not making contact. 15. I believe viable and legitimate use of drones now far exceeds the "bad press" few that we hear about now. Fabulous films alongside Olympians, historical sites from the air and from awkward to get viewpoints, inaccessible wildlife, archeological digs and new finds from aerially photographed landforms, even the police use them now on questions of security, am sure you can add to the list of the positive use of so called drones, far exceeds the few idiots in reports. 16. The lane leading to our gate Cuban is constantly used as a tip, and one time 10 ton of soil was dropped at the entrance. Luckily the Local Council clear our lane as it belongs to them, but it is still a shock when you turn up to a waste barrier before you fly.
  17. OG and interested parties, the Orange "Gyro Only" has no receiver built in, therefore is neither DSMX nor DSM2, but will connect with a DSMX receiver of your choice and works perfectly, and will connect to other make receivers. It can be switched off at the Tx via Aux 1 if you don't like it.
  18. Have tested most stabilisers due to interest and have found that they all work well especially in wind and the "all in" ones are not brilliant on range as suggested, but the "stabiliser Only" packages can be made almost bullet proof by connecting them to your favourite full range 6 channel Rx.
  19. The trouble with Expo JD is that your model knows nothing of it, Expo just alters what your fingers are applying to the surfaces. Now Differerential is another story, and a starting point would be more up aileron than down. The next option would be more down aileron than up. And do mix in some rudder, that tames many beasts. 20. There is nothing to balance on a single cell Cliff, as you know, and these cells are usually charged safely on a DC automatic charger provided with the model. Usually you can get 8 to 10 minutes indoor, on a charged cell, then the model decends. That is all we need to know really. I use a custom made socket on my voltmeter just to avoid reverse voltage through overuse, but at these low amperages pretty special kit is needed to measure them. An attempt can be made to juggle a set of wires on a small motor, run through a multimeter, but these cells are such low cost, that regular use gives the best value from them. Hope this helps.
