  1. I've been priming and sanding the wing and tail parts and have them almost at a good enough standard so got the primer on again to fill the low spots. This isn't the most enjoyable part for me but I do love the end results. Meanwhile I shaped the wing to fuse fillet Before sanding And after. Filler is still wet but will get that sanded tomorrow then I'll glass over that and add the strengthening glass strip underneath before blending that all in. I still need to sheet the forward fuselage so I'm currently curling a bit of 1/8 so that it's ready to go on. It all needs a tidy up sand but definitely getting there. Gary
  2. You could make some sort of jigs to allow it to be built over ther plan Earlybird. Just need some scrap bits of balsa tack glued to the fuse sides to raise it up enough to allow the curved ends of the formers to just touch the plan. You just need to make sure it is all evenly raised but very simple to do. Enjoying following your build. Gary
  3. Hi Nick, Sorry i missed your previous message, must have missed the notification. For the cowl, i like to use the method of attaching brackets inside the cowl that screw onto the firewall or something around that area. I find it is easy to put a couple of screws in through the cowl to attach it in place initially then mark the brackets position inside, epoxy them in place then fill the holes where the temporary screws were. It means it is all hidden. Either that or put the screws somewhere that would have something similar on the fullsize. The detailing is coming along great and makes a huge difference to the overall look. Thats when the model starts to feel like a proper P-47. Keep up the great work. Gary
  4. It has been a busy few weeks but i managed to get the vac form box made and had my first ever go of making a canopy. It took a few efforts and a few failures but finally got something useable i think I managed to break the end of my mould on the last pull so it better work! The canopy frame transferred over well but i am going to use aluminium tape to build it up more. I also got the hatch cut on top for battery access I am going to use magnets to keep it in place but i can't really sort out the placement and the other internal workings until i put the wing on, the tail parts, motor and the cowl so that i can get a rough CG then i will put a floor in for the battery to sit on and work out where everything else will go. I will need to get the wing on to check the join is tidy enough and then i will glass the fuse. Starting to feel like i am getting somewhere. Gary
  5. Just wanted to compliment Sarik on the BT Hurricane kit I just received. From order to delivery was around 2 weeks and the standard all round is very good. There were a few parts improperly cut on sheets but then there were replacements put in so clearly they had been individually checked. The cowl is very tidy and canopy looks perfect. The general quality of the wood is excellent so credit where it is due. Thanks to the guys at Sarik
  6. I think it's a great idea Matt. Would certainly make finding things much easier if there were a list of specialist suppliers. Gary
  7. Lovely work Nick. It's always impossible to know if they are perfect until you glass then get primer on to see any imperfections but those look the buisness. I'd be careful relying on the glass and filler to solve the problem at the top of the fuselage. I sometimes feel it takes more effort and quite tricky reshaping areas with filler but perfectly achievable eventually. I just prefer to cut out bits I dont like and replace the balsa then shape it closer. The glass and epoxy add strength so thinner areas due to sanding get some protection. It is hard to see from photos but the rest of your build has been great so just do whatever you think and it will work Gary
  8. Fairing are a tricky bit to get right in my experience. Usually slot of sanding and shaping but well worth it for the results
  9. Just wanted to remind everyone of the great service from Slec once again. I ordered some wood but also their 1/4 Stamle Kit on Monday evening and it arrived this morning. Excellent service but as usual, all the wood is of an excellent standard. Thanks again to the guys at Slec. Just need to acquire me a laser 150/180 for the stampe now but not going to be an immediate project. Gary
  10. Hahaha brilliant Peter! On a serious note though, I think richard said things very well earlier. We really need to support the UK suppliers of kits and materials. In the past 10 years, the only non uk kit I had bought is a Sig King Kobra. I am not trying to get all high and mighty but having seen the lack of quality in some ARTF aircraft from abroad versus the quality of materials put in UK kits, I just can't buy anything else. When you see the effort guys like Richard put into preparing his Warbird Replica kits and the real personal feel you get from his company, it gives me real pleasure in sending my money to them rather than a huge company paying its staff peanuts to produce as many kits as possible in little time. This potential shortage is a great time to get behind these companies and buy some stuff now so they have a financial cushion if things do start going bad. If things do get expensive, I am very confident these companies will only mark up prices where they have to and not to make extra profit so I know I will continue to buy from them for as long as they are selling. I feel like painting my face blue and shouting freedom now and running angrily at chinese wind turbine blade producers instead of an English army....my imagination got carried away with itself there. Gary
  11. I do enjoy a bit of planking but this aircraft maybe has than I would consider fun if you do the whole lot! If you want to see a masterclass in planking, look at Mark Elen's Grumman Cougar build Gary
  12. Well I'd be a willing customer Danny and I'm sure plenty of people on here would too. I'm still patiently waiting for you to publish a plan for the Apache also! Gary
  13. Excellent Danny. I have the plan for the Jerry Bates 1/4 Chippie but never got around to it so could Build a Danny Fenton one instead in the future! I also struggle with finishing projects Eric but haven't developed the discipline of staying on one subject at a time. Maybe I'll teach myself that in the future! Gary
  14. Sounds interesting Danny. Anything you can share about it? Gary
  15. Hi Danny, I have just read through your Hurricane build again (3rd or 4th time) on RCSB and decided to bite the bullet and buy the short kit from Sarik! I like to cut my own kits but the formers look tricky on the hurricane so just went for the kit. It will be a job for after the P-47 but excited to have it on order. Will gradually get a motor and the biggest issue will be finding a suitable landing gear but I have time to sort it. Sorry for an off topic input but your advice earlier on here encouraged me to go for the hurricane. Looking forward to see more progress on the Mustang. Gary
  16. Look what came out of the mould! Really chuffed with this. Need to fill a few little imperfections but generally it is perfectly smooth. Just need to build the vac form box now and give it a go. Gary
