Thank you Doc, woke up this morning to the news via his son Mike, never met him but I consider him a friend...

Not a scam but worth mentioning, I recently bought some car cleaning products from a well known high street car shop via there online click and collect service, day later I was invited to complete a online survey which I did ( I got good service and a keen price) ever since I've been getting 4 or 5 emails daily from datting sites, "local" women looking for fun etc etc, they all end up in spam but it's annoying never the less.

For those looking for this program it's actually called "inside the spitfire factory" I've watched every episode so far, very good indeed.

Hi Andy, no experience of the playboy kit but I am currently building the BB 50"slicker, wood selection and the plan is ok but a lot of the parts need a lot of fettling in order to fit particularly stringer slots in formers (mines a printwood kit btw). Edited By paul d on 05/10/2020 09:04:13

Alternative (and very cheap) covering material.

Mike, the polyester on its own is extremely strong and tear resistant ( I fly at Chobham common...covered in Heather!) being a vintage fan I love the look of doped tissue which on its own is extremely fragile so double covering gives the best of both worlds. The picture I posted earlier is of a model covered with polyester silk and dope with tissue trim just to illustrate the material, the model below, keil Kraft Bantam is double covered, while there is obviously a weight penalty it's actually very very little as one coat of dope is enough to seal the tissue ( I use diesels exclusively and cellulose dope is fuel proof as is). A added bonus is that the combination of the heat shrunk and doped fabric does add a lot of stiffness, the Bantam's wings could be twisted quite alarmingly before covering. I discovered a simular material a while back, its called "polyester silk " sold at hobby craft for £2.50 a metre ( it's actually 48" wide), I've covered 3 models with it so far with tissue over the top, its very thin ( just over a thou) and feather light, I apply it with covergrip and a warm iron, it shrinks with a hotter iron a treat. A coat of dope to seal it then tissue over the top with another coat of dope and the jobs a good un! I build vintage type models with diesels. -
Plan protection film

I'm another cling film user but for £1.50 I shall certainly hunt some out...good find Doc! -
Very well explained, so in Doc's case he should run his enya on castor ( unless it's new of course)...

A car from the fortys would soon go bang if lubricated with a modern 0w10 synthetic oil, I honestly think brokenenglish gave the best advice but at the end of the day it's yours to do with as you please, one thing I do remember from my ownership is that it took a age to run in.

I had one of those years ago, no ball of fire but ultra reliable, never wore mine out despite hours of use. If it was mine I would stick to 20% castor fuel with 5% nitro.

For sale: 1 sheet of 1/8th balsa, as new, £20...No offers! Seriously though I heard about a potential shortage of balsa a while back, very worrying. -

Another thumbs up for Leeds from me, ordered a few props , arrived in 26 hours! -
KC, with all due respect it's quite clear, the advance bookings must significantly improve before Thursday otherwise it's going to get cancelled. I recently attended a full size airshow at old warden and it was advance tickets only, in hindsight that's what modelair should have done....

paul d replied to alex nicol's topic in All Things Model Flying
As your using a diesel ( good on you, its all I use)then regular cellulose dope is fuel proof as is enamel paint. -
New limit on groups in England from Monday?
paul d replied to Geoff S's topic in All Things Model Flying
All rather confusing, had a email yesterday confirming that the modelair event at old warden is going ahead next weekend. -
Totally agree Doc.

Ignore my clunk comment...just seen you've checked it.
-
Not sure it's been mentioned but try leaving the glow driver connected when you turn the model over, may give a chance to tune it. Another thought, is the clunk free to move? wonder if it's sticking to the roof of the tank? Oh and "black gunge" doesn't seem right.....

Well if nothing else it's provoked some interesting debate, even though I don't actually own any lipo's being a vintage/ diesel enthusiast I could see potential dangers of the carrying a mass of cells around in the manner shown, incedently Mr Masher I did have a word but was met with blank looks.....you can only try!
