  1. I inadvertently modified the Hurricane due to a heavy landing wheels up first flight. It now fits on the dolly and looks OK in flight, I had 5 flights with it like this
  2. Simon is right the main spar should go top to bottom, I have used foamboard for spars by putting two close together full depth root to tip and feeding servo wires and retract wires through. I tend to make a hard balsa spar for something I am going to throw around the sky. This picture is how I done the Westland Whirlwind wing no ribs just foam board spars, this is the outer panel 1/16" ply braces were used to join at the dihedral angle Good luck with the project, I will be following.
  3. I had the radiator on mine Ron, I took off on the wheels and belly landed . What I was saying about the dolly is the Hurricane won't fit on ours without modification. And yes the radiator is too big a feature to leave off.
  4. Thanks Geoff and congratulations, mine has as stated on the post a Racestar 4250 800kv motor and a 4s 3600 battery, the prop is a 14x8 but it pulled too much out of the battery. I am fitting a 12 x8 for tomorrow to see if I can extend the flight time. There should be no problem flying from a dolly but you would have to modify the dolly like mine and Ron's or leave the radiator off. I belly landed mine today as the strip has not been cut yet due to the entrance being bogged down. The rest of the field is nice and short Thanks to the sheep but very uneven. There is a difference between mine and the original due to a dead battery when it was powered by a a Saito 82 fs the plane was badly damaged and the wing was a right off, I made a new built up wing using the old wing section. The centre section is sheeted with 1/16" balsa and the outer sections are sheeted with 3mm depron, the original wing tip blocks and ailerons were used. The fuselage was rebuilt using the ply crutch the sides and underside were made from 6mm depron with balsa stringers, the rear stringered fuselage was covered with an iron on light tex and the rest of the model covered with brown paper. The underside is painted with Guild duck egg blue and the top camouflage is Valspar from B and Q colour match. Ready to fly weight 6.5lb
  5. Despite a strong wind I re maidened my Warbirds Replicas Hurricane today, fitted with a Racestar 4250 800kv on 4s. I over propped it with a 14x8 which lifted it off in about 8ft Despite the long grass. I had a great flight but after 5mins. the battery was down to 15% so I called it a day.
  6. If we get anymore rain we will have to put floats on the mower. The strip is at the top of a rise and is well drained but the car park and shed is at the bottom and with the farmer driving the tractor through it's like the Somme
  7. Our strip has an electric fence to keep the sheep away, flying on my own I take off just before the fence , the dolly generally rolls over the fence (which is on the ground) leaving the strip clear for landing.
  8. This Is mine Chris, Never had any problems with it. Similar stance to Ron's
  9. Not me Paul, I don't do indoor flying and I can't flap my arms quick enough to get out of the seat.
  10. A good turn out at our field today, light wind and sunny until the afternoon, then clouds hid the sun and the breeze felt quite cold I spent 5 hours there flying my Warbirds Replicas FW190, a Spitfire and Corsair.
  11. Hi Jim, The fuel consumption was the figure quoted on the program, and here's me complaining about my insurance going up by £200.
  12. It was on Thursday night Martin, I forgot about it but watched it on the app today. Great achievement, not cheap to run 3 gallons a minute £250000 for the propeller. I hope you are well.
  13. The x mount is like me I've short arms plus deep pockets. It's annoying, I use 3mm capheads and nuts, having a small milling machine I elongated the holes to enable the bolts to fit. A needle file would also do the job.
  14. I bought mine in the North East, at least 2 Lidl stores in the area have them.
  15. Lidl have these bench sanders in at the moment £35 I've just bought one quite compact with an adjustable angle table 125mm diameter disc.
  16. Tempest 2 plan view, note radiator and oil cooler, Seafury similar
  17. Used it on my Dennis Bryant Fury and VQ hurricane, 5s on both, still had to put lead in the Hurricane
  18. It would be more like a Tempest 2 as the Seafury had quite a different fuselage. But then would the FW190 nose be big enough?
  19. Seems like your mind is fine, so let's hope you can soon go flying again.
  20. Best wishes to a full recovery and I hope you live as long and as healthy as me, I am double your age.
  21. Turn the sound off Martin, I did
  22. It's the same up North , very slow this evening. Not surprised with all this rain, I would not want to work 😒
  23. Looks like the Wills Hawker factory is on double time , it must be the none alcoholic drink you form the balsa round, or is that for the boys? Looking good Richard but I think an ark is required up here the rain has not stopped all day.
  24. Deeper treads are more likely to retain screws etc. My previous car a Mercedes B class was the most puncture prone car I ever owned, two nearly new tyres written off, one by a broken bottle in the road side and the other with a chisel from a jack hammer.
