  1. I'm still a teenager, my problem is my body is not. Stick at it Chris it can only get better, Spring has arrived up here for a few days , been gardening as there is no flying.
  2. Very helpful, apparently it took some getting down probably a warm summer day with thermals. one of my early builds was a Mercury Galahad on 2 channels and an O,S, 09 it flew round for almost 20 mins after the engine stopped catching the warm air coming up an embankment.
  3. Great work as usual Danny, My son built one of those with a big Plettenburg brushed motor. It was sold unflown . The fellow who bought it said he had a job getting it down, it just wanted to float on and on.
  4. After much chopping and changing I have the Retracts where I want them. I had planned to put the rails in a line with the spar as the Seafury but that would limit the rake forward and as the Seafury is mainly depron it will be about half the weight of the Tempest. the wheels now are forward of the leading edge of the wing. I built the wing as per the plan making sure it was sitting on the jig tabs then left it over night next day I cut the notches out for the new main spar 14 mm behind the original. after that was firmly in place I cut through the original spar to create the wheel well. I am leaving the original spar in as well as the new one I think the extra weight will be ok and as only a small portion has been removed I can still put most of the vertical webbing where it should be. Now just got to make some 1/16" ply reinforcing plates for the ribs and try to get the other side to match. Eric.
  5. On the BBC news this morning there was passengers videos of the engine burning the outer casing was meting and pieces were falling off, the biggest piece was the front ring which weighs a ton it dropped on an SUV which did not like it the owner was standing near when it happened. Fortunately no one was hurt.
  6. After this happened to me I always pin the hinges. I don't know what it is with this aeroplane but after repair it still pulls away on this aileron, it has no slop in the linkage no sign of flutter when flying, It has a Saito 125 fs up front which has a slight vibration and yes the prop is balanced. Note the rudder also pulled away.
  7. Don't see much of they up here, what a sight
  8. I use an old master balsa stripper, for top hinge ailerons I set the blade to the required distance from the top, mark where the slot needs to be the make the cut in the spar then cut the aileron on the same setting. For flat tail surfaces I set it to half thickness.
  9. That is a pin hole compared to my attempt to find the servo mount.
  10. I find Sellotape both sides and work from the corner, try not to let the tape stick together ( don't ask how I know). Great build David would love to see it in the air.
  11. T had no choice in the matter Mike, I had no 3/32" .Another thing turned up tonight ,the wing plate for the fuselage is too short and the holes don't match the plate for the wing also R1 does not have the slot in for the ply plate I found out after it was fitted , still it was not a big thing and the slot was done in with a razor saw. Eric.
  12. I think the colour scheme matches the carpet.
  13. Hi Mike, I did not get much done yesterday as the phone never stopped. Have you started on the fuselage? as the formers 4&6 are not right from Sarik you will see what I had to do at the beginning of the thread also the ply former 2 is slightly over size as I made 4&6 to match this but when I added the side and top formers they were slightly out. Not a big problem I just blended them in. I have started modifying the centre section for retracts, ribs 45&6 need to be cut out as shown I am using 1/4" ply to mount the unit on the Rear piece which fits in the original cut out is 125mm long by 20mm the front piece is 12mm wide rib 3 will be mostly cut away after the top sheet is on as that is the wheel well. the lower main spar has to be removed and taken back I will let you know how much when I see if I can get a 4 inch wheel in The Sea fury has 31/2" wheels. Not a very clear photo but this is the one I made back in the 1970.s Cheers Eric.
  14. Thanks Richard, subject not chosen yet, it will have invasion stripes. The cowl could double up for a coal bucket , starting on the wing centre section now outers are well on they have to be completed after the 3 sections are joined. I had a good conversation today with Barry Atkinson from Sarik. The reason for the two formers being undersize is that the Brian Taylor plan is out on the plan view they found out on the cad drawing and I checked my plan and it is out. No great thing as it is not built over the plan and they are going to address the problem. The other problems have been dealt with to my satisfaction. So good feed back from Sarik. Now where is that elusive Asda brown paper?
  15. None in our Asda either. I think Richard has sent us on a wild brown paper chase
  16. Got mine 2 days ago I'm an R and only re joined BMFA for the last 18 months
  17. From what you are saying Jon the flap ribs are attached to the wing ribs, they should not be and by cutting the flap out as Paul has stated it should come away from the wing. if the flap ribs are glued to the wing ribs you have a problem . Cut it out as Paul has said and if built properly it should come off
  18. I have found the best paint for Depron is Valspar masonry paint from B&Q, our local one will mix any colour from a sample, I took a a colour for a Mustang I built and the scanner copied it. It is water based and matt a 235g tester pot cost £3 that is a lot of Humbrol tinlets at over £2 each. Richard Wills of Warbird Replicas put me on to this he uses emoltion which comes in matt or sheen but they did not have the matt pots in when I called so I took the masonry which is smooth and as it is for outdoors it should be good for our use. 19. I bought some 10mm wide Velcro plant tie at Poundland abought 2 yr. ago it comes in a roll I wrap it round the fuselage and line it up carefully draw the line around then if doing invasion strips mark the next one and move the Velcro and mark the next line and so on then mask to the lines .
