  1. Good choice with the ninja, quite s tough little bird which flies well. I would not fly it indoors unless you have a sports hall sized room ( king span foam with aluminium backing I reckon causes radio problems ). They fly well in sports halls, and I do fly mine on the local football pitch with the flags on s near by house flying a quarter to a third flying. Always fly up wind and close. I stand one side of the centre circle and keep the Helo within the centre circle ( well most of the time ). It's s small Helo and can "blend into" the background easily so be ware. Keep it under control as it can/will fly away quite quickly in a breeze. Fly it on beginners mode and learn the stick/button functions way before your first flight. Enjoy...but join the bmfa or similar.
  2. I as well as others can recommend the ninja twister or the new medi Heli as advertised at the very top of your screen. Not super expensive but get a spare battery or two, and s lipo bag to store them in. Just because a model is relatively small does not mean it cannot do damage. You have the land owners permission to fly from the fields ? Bmfa membership and insurance could be a "mind changer" to the land owner
  3. Until a very united front is shown to the populouse, rather than the "fixed wing versus rotors etc. Squobble" at present to an extent, the populouse will not care one bit, but see it as boys with toys storm in a tea cup . They probably will anyway until stuff effects them. An I'm alright jack attitude.
  4. My very good friend ( Chauffer to be I hope ) did all his needed legal stuff in an afternoon with no problems whatsoever, and apart from insurance ( not a legal requirement sub 250g ) is now ready to fly, just needs training. Years ago he was a free flighter and won some comps for his age group then. So, Pablo, it can be done.
  5. Unless NT demand it. They may demand that fliers are fully legal to be allowed to fly there, so if rid becomes " law" and not fitted...... All good untill a *walker" is hit, but the walkers of those paths do have some " sense" . They seem to like watching the flying..... Absolutely wonderfull site. Penrhos, you know of Frank the paint and others ? The caravan used to be the other side of the site back in the day... . '
  6. Hi toto, Feeding your addiction.... My first rc plane was flown and flown and flown, boom breakages were easy but added weight, the thing rndef up with s paw19 on the front which extended its life somewhat... Eventually it got so fat it just would not fly reasonably at all The wings found thier way into c/l planes, the fuz balsa reclaimed as much as possible, the remainder given s Vikings funeral. I hope you have kept your gutted arising star for the future..... As to this foamy, what is the opinion of the rat's nest of wires and the two thick battery wires ?
  7. Submitted some time ago.... Look forward to a further consultation with an April 1st closing date ! It's only lone fliers/country members "restrictions" that worry me, and the caa refusing some clubs "official status", IE, unsuitable. Slope soaring site" official status" is a worry also. I have answered the questions with "aeromodeling and model flying as a whole" attitude rather than "just me and my model flying " attitude. A slight contradiction agreed but there you go. I am not a club member due to transport difficulties ( nearest club 60 mile round trip, powered, few extra miles extra to NT / club soaring site, hell's mouth ) and increasing mobility problems. I am very local these days... Anyone else noticed a reduction/improvement of general aches and pains since Dec 22nd. ?
  8. Ps, don't let the cold in.... Dickies do a good quilted overall, not quite as good as a Walls Zerozone one ( 8 dollars at the time in wallmart, only allowed to bring into the country in very small amounts, singles, a second skin until finally fully worn out some 32 years later !!!! ) But worth the money and warm. Fingerless gloves, a tx "muff" to keep the wind away and a good peaked hat with furry side panel ear covers.....don't forget the sun glasses.....and good socks. Yep you guest it, powered plane fight box on wheels, soarer tx box in back pack.
  9. True, and we are all different... My initial rC training was done on a 52 inch r + e powered glider and r + e 72 inch s/soarer. Both models and I being coached by a trusted well experienced pilot. Thanks Frank ( the paint ). Keeping both planes well up wind floating about with Frank suggesting " now turn to the left keeping the nose up" etc. until I could do passable circuits, figure of eights etc. from all sides. Dummy approaches, lower each time until "this time land but don't forget to flair..." Etc. All these days where a bit windy with longish flights, 10 mins plus. Soaring flights were much longer with the plane "parked" in lift whilest i had a short mental "rest". Only two channels to worry about. Prop the dipping wing was firmly lodged in my head. At first I said it out loud, then only in my head until it became instinct, second nature, automatic if you will I flew the socks off both models and progressed onto the hiboy.... There have been times when I did get a little disirientated when seeing model side on, is it slightly pointing away from me or towards me ? Eventually the flights became more fluid, more flowing, which comes with practise. So toto, we have all been where you are at present. Get more stick time and batteries, and get the IC powered model up and running. A good trick we had at the club was to "fly backwards" at hieght, which should illustrate the wind speed at the flying site, penrhos, llyn peninsula, and hell's mouth area for sloping.
  10. Hi Frank, good to hear you help out your local atc squadron The squadron may have an enclosed cockpit pc flight sym system. The principle of flight training books are very well written. Lots of subjects are taught for the various levels of cadet, tests/exams taken to gain the badge/award. Test passes needed by cadets to "progress" to further things like summer camp ( hope they still happen ) and aef ( air experience flight, in chipmunk ? ) Not sure these days but in the eighties even round the pole aeromodeling was not encouraged due to "safety" concerns Hope that is not the case these days.....
  11. 5 mins flying time, 8 circuits then land ? Mind you, take off to extra hieght, idle motor and "glide' for a bit, throttle up, gain hieght, repeat until "timed out" then land, but leaving sufficient file fuel for at least one aborted landing and go around again... Unless is was super aerobatic and fast jobby, 5 mins or so would not be enough for me. You doing slope soaring or powered gliders at all ? You need practise practise practise, another 6 batteries and a field charger, or sloper/powered glider. You do have an IC powered trainer with an estimated 16 mins plus endurance that you could land early if needed ? The important thing is "don't give up". Every flying session is a learning period. Say out loud ( again ) " prop the dipping wing with the stick", or variations of that until your flying becomes instinctive, second nature, natural, needing minimum thinking time for correction. In short time, no thinking time wil be needed, a very fluid flowing flight. Keep practising with purpose toto. A loop is an easy entry into inverted flight, just remain two mistakes high.
  12. Confusing r and l controls when coming out of a turn.....? Due to slight "disorientation" ...? Reinforce your instict, prop the dipping wing with the stick etc., And/or remember a bit more the " attitude, position, course" of the aircraft.... Yes practise practise practise, to include figure of eights in all directions up wind, as well as circuits, again both directions, and approaches with out landing, low getting lower , landing practising, aborted landings and touch and goes, but keep airspeed/flying speed up All this practise will pay dividends..... I understand your present model is electric powered, how long are the flights at say half throttle may I ask ?
  13. Thanks Andy... Might the bmfa have a procedure to get country members flying sites "registered", officially know of/about, recognised as "a regular flying site"....other than a bmfa affiliated site/club. ? Thanks...
  14. Hi Bruce, So the "state" has a list of "officially recognised" flying sites acknowledged by the "state" ??? I am thinking along bmfa " country members" flying sites lines, but are these sites officially recognised ! Where can one view this "list" please, to make sure the sites I use as a country member are actually on it...!
  15. Let's hope the caa issue a "home build" kit and testing service for the device ?
  16. Hi Andrew, a tax and mot exempt camper van I trust ? Enjoy..... Relatively light weight inexpensive radio gear etc. For indoor/park fly, toprc 450 w/s warbird mark 2 stuff ? Gearboxes still not arrived last time I looked...due new year ?
  17. I wonder if a few bmfa email merge messages to every bmfa member would help ? It's been about a month since the cat was let out of the bag by now.....
  18. Hi Jake, Nice location and selection...Rog take off and landing, that one have flaps ? Beaches are great, firm smooth all round landing strip apart from the dunes and water, long lazzy climb outs on power and long approaches with good flying speed, wide open skies and clean air...but disciplined... Any slopes on prevailing wind ?
  19. This is the worry and it's coming ... The easiest way for the caa to control model flying, what ever the model, a flying machine, is to ban all model flying, apart from model flying at a deserted registered flying site at least 5 miles from any "risk". So anything seen flying outside of the registered area is an illegal flight. Gone are all the very local sites used by country members probably, and the fantastic slope soaring sites that have not been registered. So, a centralised known and registered local flying site that may be fifty miles away from you and organised at a club level probably.... When that situation has been achieved, caa close these "now only viable sites" one by one until only buckminster remains.... How long that process takes is up to your "influence"...
  20. Driving a vehicle on the road illegally is very antisocial and a no brainer these days, anpr and cameras everywhere, unless you can use all back road routes, not doable these days...
  21. As to flying regs etc... I remember it being said on a webinar...."the caa does not own the sky".....make of that what you will. Model flying and not obeying all the rules to the letter will incure no wroth until something goes wrong like an incident involving people and the authorities, as things stand. I cannot see any cops being posted near to any possible model fying site, legal or otherwise, on the off chance of catching any "no compliant" model flier, but as we know cops can and do use "slowly slowly catchy monkey" techniques, as well as patrols and "local inteligence'... The use of on board model/aircraft identification and location/height/flying data etc. Broadcast by the model and aircraft, when in flight, detected, processed and deemed to be of interest to the authorities by the authorities, then expect a visit from them. Any and All other flying machines seen in the sky would be deemed either UFO or foe. Wartime iff type thing. A nation radar system ?? A radar system to highligh presence of an unregistered aircraft, with a mass of 250g or more...... Probably a blind eye approach unless a "nuisance" is reported or a person/property is damaged and reported. Any rules broken, expect insurance to be void, and official action to take place. Obey the rules to be ok. What worries me is the end of possible slope soaring sites, local flying sites and country members status...
  22. DVLA or what ever they are called this week will send you a letter informing you of tax, insurance and sorn stuff. They will point out failure to obey the rules will result in a big fine of many £'s.....even if the vehicle is in hibernation off road somewhere... Ask me how I know
  23. Thanks for the heads up robin. If Wisbech was local to me I may purchase that but I'm in Wales and after an untouched kit ideally. You say you contacted precedent and they sent you some new parts ? That must have been back in the day rather than last week ? Am I correct in saying slec hold info for hi boys ?? In my time, early 80's, hi boy was the trainer for me but some could not fly them, so had wot4's to crash instead.
