  1. I have looked but is there a thread especially for beginners about batteries ( especially lipo batteries ) on here to explain the somewhat confusing for beginners terminology... Eg, 1s 5c 2000mah ( I am sure a battery like this does not exist ? ). Beginners battery ( lipo etc. ) Thread ?
  2. I am sure flyboy3 us gunna ask, what is the difference please. Obviousely 0.1 volts, but .....
  3. Hi Ron, I am sure your vidio ( terrible internet here so will view when in library in town ) will be of great benefit to me, others and especially younger modellers. I am sure you and others, us older uns, as well as myself, will remember reading in aeromodeller and other magazines of the 70's and 80's, even earlier, of coloured wrapping paper being used as a covering very successfully. I fact, that is were I got the idea of cereal packet cardboard pva glued straight onto white foam shaped wing cores, making them very rigid and tough, taking paint, humbrol enamel in my case, well, resulting in a cheap and easy relatively light wing for control liners at the time. At the time money was so so tight with us, economy, adaptability, recycling, inventiveness was the order of the day. These days people just go out and buy..... Do you Remember the solvite advert ? Using the autoshop brown paper is an off shoot of this idea/activity. Even corrugated cardboard was utilised. Anyways, a good vidio to watch, learn and inwardly digest. Thanks Ron.
  4. Thanks leccy, time will tell, mark 2 versions of the spit and 109, see shop adverts etc ... Toto, as GG says put the esc "in the wind".....
  5. Cribbing, mmmmm..... Surely better to read, read, read and get some of it to stick in your head...you will always have your head with you, you may not have "your notes/crib sheet. ".
  6. Balsa cabin sonata, even an electric one ( 3 channel ), you mainly wanting a slope soarer ? Yes, impala and several older designs.....hot pants, crusader and many other better known models... However if you are intent on making your own, see outerzone " found centennial" wing, easy to make, strong and light with spruce spars ( rocket sticks ) and two extra bays on central part, one extra bay on wing tips ( it did I add two extra tip bays as well, will have to check ). Easy simple fuz with room for standard sized servos... At some point sn electric one will be made as well as a sloper.....
  7. My mistake, feedback from ali1979 ....
  8. Hi leccy, I did ask a question of all, still waiting for his response ...... He does not have to answer of course.....
  9. Erm.....f/f'ers usually do it in the middle of no where..... Besides, they are the real aeromodellers... I consider a free running IC engine, under no control at all ( apart from the quantity of fuel in the tank ) in a 2 channel glider or what ever, to be unacceptable these days... Waiting for feedback from all...
  10. Yes, retailer responsible for refund, then they go to manufacturer for a refund... Get the manufacturer/retail supplier involved early.... Mail order shop/UK supplier ( j Perkins ) / manufacturer ( in China ), toprc bf109 mark 2...as an example.....
  11. Might be an idea to change the models name, tempting fate a little too much...
  12. Hi toto, Did the ESC's come with soldered on connections ? Do overlander actually manufacture these units ? in the UK ? Or subcontract ? Or just buy in units and "badge engineer " ??? I would think that if I were overlander I would want to inspect every "returned unit' to try and identify "family faults" and make rectification to manufacture to keep the good company name. Some feel the company does not have a good name ( "O" ) worth protecting ? Contact overlander stating what's happened, twice ? Now, even showing pictures and mentioning this thread. Any batch numbers on the Esc or similar, purchased on same invoice etc. to help overlander ? What guarantee comes with these units ? Yes I know, electric stuff is easily ruined, some even bring non returnable, but if it don't work or dies very early...... I am sure overlander ( two page ad in rcme mag every month ? ) Does not want any bad press etc.. I would be interested to know of their reply and verdict... Common factor, possibly motor, wound in DELTA.... Surely a resistance check would show/suggest something.... Could you show the other side of the Esc PCB board ?
  13. Yep, fresh air will do that, but so will carbon dioxide/ monoxide, you will never wake up with that stuff as you know... Take your time, no real rush... Ps, get the taris button to work !
  14. Hi Ali, See Lidl foam chuck gliders conversion base threads on here and /or similar...but you did say you would prefer balsa etc.. Bonzo moon and others... Slope soarer, powered ( 3 channel really these days due to increased safety ) or thermal/bungee/powered tug launch ? Over...
  15. Yes, as above in so much that you do not run your car engine at full power, or even 85 percent full power for most of the time... Unless it's a racing/rally/off road/completion car or similar.... One new part ( or even a rtf plane/model or whatever... ) Failing, **** happens. Same product fails again, coincidence, **** happens. A third failure, something is wrong.... Hospital medical notes go missing after a medical test, """" happens as hospitals are very big busy places. Same notes when found go missing again, coincidence, same reason. Same notes when found again go missing......... The specialist nurses etc. agreed, something is very wrong... NHS/hospital notes computer system even after many years and millions and millions written off ( waterfall effect ??? ) Still not working properly... Sorry NHS but it's true, but thank you so so much for saving my life again recently.... Toprc spit and bf109 mark two ? , I wonder why ? ( Update on that bitter bag of sweets shortly ... ) Anyways, stay focused and methodical toto... Picture of esc "internals" ? Ps don't give up on your broken trainers until they have grown so fat ( due to repairs ) they will not fly very well at all any more. You have them in front of you so can always make a new fuz/wing etc....
  16. Nice see thru " tx muff"....I think there is a market for an inflatable tx muff ? Althought the dickies quilted overall are good they do not have side zips on the legs like the walls Zerozone one had which makes putting it on and taking it off so easy with h boots/shoes on. One of those furry lined peaked hats with furry side flap ear covers are great, but need modifying with a wing band rather that a tie together strap, to stop you looking like a hound with big ears flapping in the wind. Get the wife to knit a "neck tube" from wool, or cut the sleeves of a knackerd jumper and join together. Bikers or should I say motorcycleists ( biker inffers summer Weekender rider to me, anyone doing the "dragon" this year ? ) know how to keep out the cold.... I also use fingerless gloves but when it's really cold I use the large "trigger finger and thumb" over mitts.
  17. With the ninja, just LEARN what each stick and button function does. Learn it until it's second nature, instinct, automatic with virtually no thinking time. You will not have the time to refer to the book when flying... In my opinion it's folly not to have insurance. Having insurance does not counter " neglegence" or stupidity. For insurance cover you must be flying legally. Print off the bmfa handbook etc. and become fully aware of your responsibilities. Joining the bmfa gives you good insurance etc.. Yes, check out your local club, will bmfa country membership allow you local club flying site access ? Also investigate local club Mode Prefferance, mode 1, mode 2 ? If you progress into fixed wing model flying, your chosen mode ( stick functions ) for the ninja, may clash with fixed wing mode. No matter how hard I try, in a stressful "mode2" flying occurrence, no matter how slow the model is flying, I always seem to revert to mode 1 operation, the mode I was initially trained in. So, get legal and insured, learn stick functions off by heart, follow all instructions in the book ( calibration etc. ) , Pick your day ( not much wind blowing towards open space rather than a road etc. ) And give it a go. With the ninja which is easily held via tail boom, finger and thumb, you can have a well held tethered "flight" to see/feel stick influences. Even gently holding the Helo via the landing skids, you can have a tethered flight. Just be carefull, the rotor blades are not eye friendly ? The instruction book will explain things like stick digital trims etc.. The ninja is quite easy to fly successfully ( in a sports hall or outside, not in a smallish room at home in my experience ) which you will enjoy, and fly without crashing. As said ( and I was told this on here ) be carefull in more than a very very gentle breeze else it will fly away quickly and some distance ( thanks guys ). Always fly up wind. Don't fly by a lake......or water/road etc.. sods law says... Enjoy... Enough from me... .report back when stuff arrives...
  18. End game ? Nah... As someone said " we are approaching the end of the begining....." There will be much more to come I feel....when Amazon aviation gets going there will be more restrictions placed on us all, pricing out the poor first... I really hope I am wrong but it's coming I feel. Indoor flying may blossom.... There is a possibility even control line flying will be effected, see article 16, the new one, well, a few days old now.
  19. Oh, just knock that shelf and the tx skydives into the paint pot, which I hope is empty...
  20. Hi Jon, yes a good test to see if the pupil is listening, awake and brain is in gear.
  21. Good choice with the ninja, quite s tough little bird which flies well. I would not fly it indoors unless you have a sports hall sized room ( king span foam with aluminium backing I reckon causes radio problems ). They fly well in sports halls, and I do fly mine on the local football pitch with the flags on s near by house flying a quarter to a third flying. Always fly up wind and close. I stand one side of the centre circle and keep the Helo within the centre circle ( well most of the time ). It's s small Helo and can "blend into" the background easily so be ware. Keep it under control as it can/will fly away quite quickly in a breeze. Fly it on beginners mode and learn the stick/button functions way before your first flight. Enjoy...but join the bmfa or similar.
  22. I as well as others can recommend the ninja twister or the new medi Heli as advertised at the very top of your screen. Not super expensive but get a spare battery or two, and s lipo bag to store them in. Just because a model is relatively small does not mean it cannot do damage. You have the land owners permission to fly from the fields ? Bmfa membership and insurance could be a "mind changer" to the land owner
  23. Until a very united front is shown to the populouse, rather than the "fixed wing versus rotors etc. Squobble" at present to an extent, the populouse will not care one bit, but see it as boys with toys storm in a tea cup . They probably will anyway until stuff effects them. An I'm alright jack attitude.
  24. My very good friend ( Chauffer to be I hope ) did all his needed legal stuff in an afternoon with no problems whatsoever, and apart from insurance ( not a legal requirement sub 250g ) is now ready to fly, just needs training. Years ago he was a free flighter and won some comps for his age group then. So, Pablo, it can be done.
