  1. Maybe time for some nice Laser 40th Anniversary stickers?..
  2. I remember seeing some of these at an event at the Shuttleworth Museum many moons ago, was really surprised at how long they flew for at times, often well in to the minutes. I remember it well as I was a bit younger and watching these old boys running around after their models was quite amusing!
  3. Would a continuous rotation servo work in this application? around 45-50 rpm? https://www.modelshopleeds.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=19177
  4. Was an interesting topic without the personal 'tit for tat' , shame.
  5. I've not read the whole thread but from what I have I think PDF Xchange editor will do what you need, you can calibrate the scale/measure tool using a known reference (wingspan?)and use that to measure the rest of the drawing. Not free but a brilliant tool, we use it at work as a replacement for adobe acrobat. You may get a free 30 day trial??
  6. I really mean no offence to anybody but the demographic of the hobby is also the same demographic that is more likely to be caught out by these lovely people that decide an honest living isn't for them. Many have grown up in times that it was normal to leave your front door open etc and perhaps don't fully grasp that the internet isn't always used for good.
  7. These snippets of info help SO much, even bits I thought I had my bonce around like linkages that yu mentioned earlier. I'm not sure if to do a two piece or single wing yet, I think I may put the former in that you suggested but to suite the two piece. I guess I have three main considerations...Easiest to build....easiest to fit/maintain radio gear etc and ........easiest to repair!
  8. Thank you RR, I thought it may have been. That'll be the very same line that I confused with a stringer when I started!
  9. I feel lazy asking this but having searched on here and google I'm confusing myself. I'm just setting the horizontal stab but there is no referrence to incidence. Happy to try and figure it out but whats the refferrrence point, is it thrust line?
  10. Ah yes, I'm with you, yes it was part of the door structure but there's an upright to go in on the left hand side as the door is only on the right. I like the idea of a former in that area as, like I said' it all looks a bit weak. I'm surprised there are no formers between F2 and F4 other than F3 which does very little, just seems like there should be one in the cabin area. Time to sit and study the plans again and make some decisions, much easier now I understand a bit more. Thanks.
  11. I had planned for the fuel tank to be 'front loading' accessible by removing the engine. I understand most of this but a bit lost by 3/16 upright that I removed? Thanks
  12. I had thought about a one piece wing and the servo locations, in fact that's probably my next job. My plan was to have a simple ply servo tray accessible from the functional doors, about the height of the lower door hinge but thought a one piece wing would make this simpler. Aileron servos, I planned to use micro servos here and mount them in a pocket with a cover, the article says just cover over them but I think I'd rather some kind of access, hadn't given much thought about the cabling though. I do worry about the strength of the fuse were the wing joins, unless I'm under estimating the strength provided by the 1/8th Ally tubes at the front. Here's were I'm at, I didn't restart it, just a bit of hacking here and there with my new found confidence and I'm much happier. I've not fixed the window 'frames' yet as I wanted to see how they fit against the sheeting, I also snapped off the front uprights but they were so fragile I think I'll just put a strip of spruce or something in.
  13. Brilliant, I'm pretty sure I understand so thanks for being detailed, I may sketch it first just to make sure I've interpreted correctly. Definitely some good points which I've noted.
  14. Thanks RR, yes I thought the Pete Miller panel might be rogue but it does have the same reference number as some parts on the laser cut balsa so thought I'd mention it. I'm now sure you are right about the 'outer' sheeting, I actually found a short YT video of a Sig 1/6th build that had this 'outer' sheeting, I did see it on the CSA of F2 but hadn't given it enough thought as that nose section appears to be built separately and didn't consider that the panels would be infilled and then sheeted over. Yes, not for a beginner that's for sure! I naively thought as my Seagull P47 Kit went together pretty well I'd be OK but alas, I'm struggling! That said, I hope to get it finished, even if it means bugging you guys for help! Although there are a few builders at my club it doesn't compare to the wealth of knowledge on here. Thanks!
  15. I think the plan was adapted from the sig plan and I belive that had a one piece wing so maybe lost in translation along the lines, who knows. Also, I notice on the plan the right hand info panel says ' designd by Peter Miller for .15 size engines but then there is a further panel that says designed and drawn by Phill Kent for .40 size? ....interesting.. Not sure if I'll scrap what I've done, I'm feeling a little more confident that I don't need to be 100% as per the plan so maybe I'll use it as a test bed and see how it comes out.
  16. I'll take my pocket money to the shows this year, they normally have a stand I believe!.
  17. I think a few simple cross sections would help a fantastic amount but I guess it's not a model for a new builder and some poetic license is expected. A particular area is the center wing section, there are no formers and almost zero detail so I don't even know were to start. I've got some half decent measuing equipment but will add a permagrit wedge to the shopping list, I've been getting by with sandpaper glued to various shaped timper and plastic pipes that's served me well.
  18. It's not really that bad, just a few things I now know will help give me more satisfaction and there isn't a ton of time or money tied up in it, maybe I will, maybe not. Ithink as the plan is in imperial it's making it much harder for me, I'm only young! (ish) I'm trying to figure were the covering will attach, in my mind from F4 rearward it would be the top longeron, then the1/8th stringer (so not the formers or the 'mid' longeron) and then the bottom longeron, maybe I've got that wrong so making it difficult to figure out what happens forward of this. Really appreciate your time and expertise! I'll put the plan up but mods, please remove if not allowed! Clipped cub plan.pdf
  19. I've been away from this for bit but back on it again and with another question.. This time it's around F4 and the adjacent window frame, the top section of F4 is angled which is fine but the lower section is straight and recessed more than the depth of the box section frame it mounts too, diffucult to explain but hopefully a few pictures will help! Said former and how I think it should go..you can see the 'overhang'.. I assume it's something to do with keeping the covering nice but how was I/am I meant to fit the window 'frame'.. You can see F5, F6 F7 etc are all set back and to me that makes more sense for covering? Incidently I'm binning this frame to start again so happy to use as a test peice..
