  1. What about this one http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/30839/flyfly-fox-artf-glider-a-ffb016   Maybe not the right model for the park though
  2. Isn't it great to have a choice, I remember when we only had non programmable radios without digital trims.   I used to fly my large scale glider (HP-18 with flaps) and to get crow braking meant using two separate controls and then compensating for the elevator trim, on my computer set it's all set up on one control (throttle stick in this instance) to operate the crow, and I have the flap slider set so I can just give a little flap only for extra lift if required.   Also it you want separate aileron or elevator servos then a programmable radio makes setting them up much easier. What next I'm sure somebody will be saying we don't need reversing switches just reverse rotation servos......................   For me programmable radios are very useful and have expanded the range of models i would have normally flown.
  3. Tim   They've probably done this as you are more likely to need dual-aileron and flap and this lets you use a 6 channel Rx, if Aux2 was allocated to gear and you weren't using retratcs you's have to use a 7/8 channel Rx to get the flap channel. Maybe they should just go to calling the channels on the Rxs 1,2,3, etc rather than naming them.
  4. Thanks guys some good suggestions there, I'd not seen the seagull Innovator before and that looks like its worth investigating more. But I must admit the more Fun Cub videos I watch the more I want one of those............................
  5. New club member needs to get a trainer, but has some 3s 2200 mah and some 6s 2500 mah batteries. He wants to stay electric and get a trainer which can handle some wind, what do you recommend, I was thinking Fun Cub, but what else is out there. Thanks
  6. I think this is a misguided move by Futaba, they want to bring out a cheaper set and have moved to a different protocol to do this. This stops the upgrade path for beginners who bought into futaba. So lets say you bought the new 6 channel futaba Tx and accumulated 3 or 4 FHSS rx's and then decide you wan to move onto more complicated models and would like an 8+ channel set. If you'd have had a FASST 6 channel tx it would be a no brainer, you'd stick with futaba, but now as the Rx's aren't compatible you'd have to invest in new Rx's, so any right minded soul would check out the competition including the companies who don't compete with the entry level sets i.e. Jeti, Multiplex etc   Plus is you are already a 6EX FASST user you can't use the new more econimical FHSS Rx's.
  7. Not got one myself but I remembered the review which stated you need more down aileron than up, just checked the instructions on line for the ultra, 8mm up aileron and 11mm down. The corkscrew is because when you roll the elevons are still controlling pitch as well.
  8. Posted by r6dan on 16/03/2011 11:19:37: @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css); I am after a glider 48" + thats really floaty and can be flown off the slope when there is not much wind and thats nice and relaxing to fly. oh and it needs to be less than £200 Any Ideas? Edited By r6dan on 16/03/2011 11:21:10 Easy glider hits all those spots, maybe too relaxing.  Another option would the Speedo
  9. Cockpit Sx is about the only 7 channel radio that handles gliders well, lovely radio and easy to program. But the Futaba 8 FG and most other 9+ channel radio's (Hitec, JR etc) should all have the features you are looking for. I looked at the Dx8 but it didn't look like it was set up for gliders
  10. Tim re flap mixing I've set them up so that the flaps can be coupled with the ailerons in normal flight for a zippier roll rate and then used as flaps in the landing phase. Not with a 7c though I'm afraid. Edited By Frank Skilbeck on 16/03/2011 22:17:09 Edited By Frank Skilbeck on 16/03/2011 22:18:13
  11. You mean this ones not true either Subject: Nigerian Astronaut Wants To Come Home Dr. Bakare Tunde Astronautics Project Manager National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) Plot 555 Misau Street PMB 437 Garki, Abuja, FCT NIGERIA Dear Mr. Sir, REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE-STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL I am Dr. Bakare Tunde, the cousin of Nigerian Astronaut, Air Force Major Abacha Tunde. He was the first African in space when he made a secret flight to the Salyut 6space station in 1979. He was on a later Soviet spaceflight, Soyuz T-16Z to the secret Soviet military space station Salyut 8T in 1989. He was stranded there in 1990 when the Soviet Union was dissolved. His other Soviet crew members returned to earth on the Soyuz T-16Z, but his place was taken up by return cargo. There have been occasional Progrez supply flights to keep him going since that time. He is in good humor, but wants to come home. In the 14-years since he has been on the station, he has accumulated flight pay and interest amounting to almost $15,000,000 American Dollars. This is held in a trust at the Lagos National Savings and Trust Association. If we can obtain access to this money, we can place a down payment with the Russian Space Authorities for a Soyuz return flight to bring him back to Earth. I am told this will cost $ 3,000,000 American Dollars. In order to access the his trust fund we need your assistance. Consequently, my colleagues and I are willing to transfer the total amount to your account or subsequent disbursement, since we as civil servants are prohibited by the Code of Conduct Bureau (Civil Service Laws) from opening and/ or operating foreign accounts in our names.Needless to say, the trust reposed on you at this juncture is enormous. In return, we have agreed to offer you 20 percent of the transferred sum, while 10 percent shall be set aside for incidental expenses (internal and external) between the parties in the course of the transaction. You will be mandated to remit the balance 70 percent to other accounts in due course. Kindly expedite action as we are behind schedule to enable us include downpayment in this financial quarter. Please acknowledge the receipt of this message via my direct number 234 (0) 9-234-2220 only. Yours Sincerely, Dr. Bakare Tunde Astronautics Project Manager [email protected] http://www.nasrda.gov.ng/
  12. Phil, neat idea and it saves having to use up one of the mixers. Maybe we'll start to see throttle cut on a switch for electric models, it's a good safety addition for carrying them to and from the flight line.
  13. If your flaps are on a switch, then one of these may be good http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=8863 Not only can you reverse one servo but you can adjust the speed as well.  Out of stock at HK at present, but a couple of UK suppliers also sell them.
  14. Mike   On mine the canopy came off once, so I added a bit of velcro (either side of the front retainer) for additional security, this worked a treat.
  15. I'm guessing this is an older non-programmable heli type radio, fiunctions of the switches are probably as follows 1=elev - reversing switch 2=aile - reversing switch 3=throt - reversing switch 4=rudd - reversing switch 5=rud mix - activate throttle to rudder mix (as used on heli's to counteract torque reaction, not much used today with modern gyros) 6=rud mix reverse - reverses action of 5 7=ccpm/norm - swash plate mixing (leave to normal if you are flying fixed wing) 8=lock - not sure but could be reversing on gyro gain control 9=pit - not sure 10=gear.- reversing switch   In sumamry you can use it for planes, but leave 5 off and 7 in norm. Hook up 6 servos and check the switches on the front don't do anything untoward.
  16. Posted by Chris Bott on 02/03/2011 07:54:21:   Note however, I am not a huge fan of telemetry yet as I have trouble reading it. I need reading glasses but obviously can't fly in them. I tried my varifocals but don't like flying in those either and if I look down at the DX8, it takes a good second to focus. This is far too long not to be looking at the model. So for me, I need another person to read my telemetry if it's to be of any use. The Tx can be set to alarm and or vibrate at whatever telemetry level you like. That is useful. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css); @import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css); I fly in variofocals, and its one of my big bugbears having the screen at the bottom of the Tx, I have a Dx6i and a MPX Cockpit Sx (no telemetry) and the timer on Sx is so much easier to glance at. If I was upgrading to telemetry the Tx would have to have the display where it is easy to quickly glance at. I can't understand why manufacturers insist on putting the screen at the bottom of the Tx below the sticks.
  17. My Fantom was good and used for several years until one of the elevon servos packed up recently................ and it's now no more. But they are easy to launch, have a good turn of speed, handle a bit of a breeze and slow up well for landing
  18. Its essential for inddor flying................
  19. Very nice But you don't want to nose over too much with those props
  20. If you are only using a 3s lipo then the standard onboard BEC should be fine. If using lots of high power servos or 4s and above lipo then an UBEC would be my preference either standalone or integrated into the ESC.
  21. Ever remember the Not the Nine O Clock song I believe, contains the line " I believe pigs and even DC10s can fly" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7eCUEfb7U0 Of course if you read the report on the 747 blowing up off NW of America (poor quality wiring in fuel tanks) or 777 fuel icing at heathrow you'd rule these out as well. Bring back the Titanic. 22. Make sure you have a UK mag with you, not all US model shops offer big savings over UK especially once you've paid the local sales tax etc. I tend to buy lots of accessories which you don't always see over here.  There are better deals on servos and lipos on the net.  But I did get a couple of LEGs Le Fishes last year and saved a bundle on international shipping.
  23. This is whats on a nose leg retract I have, a single spring running from the steering part of the leg to the non-steering section of the retract, a bit like the vertical springs you see on some swing doors, keeps the wheel centered when steering wires go slack.
