karl grey
Hi to all here on this forum. A quick intro from myself to you all, my name is Karl and i'm looking into learning this flying escapade. Not completly new to rc as i used to race 1/8th i.c buggy and 1/10th electric touring car so orientation not to bad. Attended my local flying club with intentions to join and whislt there was introduced with a small taster session on the sticks. Now hoping to progress with club tutor and instructor whilst i get a plane put together and purchase radio gear.

karl grey
Thank you for the warm welcomes from you all, now i need some advice. I'm currently in the progress off putting the Swift together and have arrived at the engine install. Now the manual is not the best i've seen and the question i have is regarding the side thrust and prop alignment. The firewall is built with an angle to the right so when the engine is mounted is goes of to the right. The thrust washer needs to be 110mm from the firewall, straight forward enough, but does the prop need to sit on the centre line off the fuz or be to the right of the centre line or following the centre line of the angled engine mount. Hope this makes sense to someone, i would have asked at the club today but don't think i'll get there as we have a weather warning in place. Alan Cantwell
it would be nice to have the prop on centreline, but in the case of your trainer, not neccasary, only when you start with engine cowls do you have to start setting the engine over to align the prop/spinner to the cowling, even then, there is a chance that the cowl too may have some thrust built into the design,
Codename-John
as long as the engine is sat right in the mount ie. straight, with the mounting holes equally spaced on each side, then the firewall with its built in side and down thrust takes care of the rest when its mounted
Dean
Hi Karl Welcome to this addictive hobby, You will soon have more models than fingers and part built aircraft round the house (guess how I know that   If I remember correctly there was an issue with the front wing support not being strong enough. If you type in Seagull Swift in the search box and have a read of Stephen Griggs thread It shows what happend to his and what he done to beef up his replacement. Looks a great model Good luck keep us updated on your progress Dean
karl grey
Thanks for the quick replies guys. Dean- did see that post regarding the wing support and have beefed it up to be on the safe side. If i get any more questions i'll be asking again
karl grey
Well a quick update for you all, model is all put together, engine installed and radio gear fitted. Just sat her out in the garden under restaint and fire the engine over. Primed her up with four turns on the prop, placed starter on glowplug and a quick flick with my chick stik and she fired straight up. Ran like a dream, well chuffed. Now to figure out how my charger works and discharge/charge my 4.8v 1300mah rx battery and top up the transmitter battery and hope for a dry day tomorrow down the club
Concorde Speedbird
Nothing beats a good engine! You have done this properly, well done. Enjoy it, the Swift will be great. CS
Paul Marsh
The seagull swift is really a 4 in one trainer, not 3 in one (Manual description is wrong). Reason why. 1. Glow with taildragger 2. Glow with Trike u/c 3. Electric with taildragger 4. Electric with Trike u/c It's a math thing...
karl grey
Update for you all, i have 5 or 6 flights in total now and coming along nicely. Still only doing standard square circuits with the odd figure 8 threwn in for good measure. First session today was a taxi excercise with no wings then wings fitted for first flight off the day. I was handed control after take off and started oval circiuts left hand and right hand then started square circuits slowly getting lower and lower. Saturdays don't come fast enough each week now.......
