David Ashby - Moderator
Martin has put some photos of his new design here and I thought I'd draw everyone's attention to it. It's another unique design from a very clever man and he'll be taking it to the Nats so you can see it on the Fun Fly line. Nice one Martin, love it. I think you can say those ailerons are probably just about big enough Edited By David Ashby - RCME on 21/08/2012 09:32:

Phil 9
is the wing shape just to look nice and different or does it have a real effect on how it flys compared to other funflys?
Radge
Hopefully I shall be going to Barkston Heath this weekend and see it. Any one else going?

MartinBell
Hi, Thank you for the positive comments. It has only flown twice so still trying to get to grips with it!! It's an animal to fly and I'm somewhat rusty so not a good combo! I just hope it actually survives the nats.... Phil, In theory an eliptical wing is one of the most efficient shapes you can have as the load distribution is constant across the span. A rectangular wing by contrast doesn't produce as much lift out towards the tips so this is effectively wing area that is underemployed. In practice however, rectangular wings or those with a straight taper are more common as they are much easier to build, often lighter and offer good stall characteristics as the root is likely to stall before the tip. In my case, I just thought it looked cool!! Truth be told you can't beat a regular looking funfly for performance. But they look boring so I thought i'd try something different. Martin. Concorde Speedbird
Very nice, I like the way the wing is moulded into the fuselage, like the V bombers (sort of!). Great job, I like innovation and different planes. CS
Rich B
A very pretty beastie you got there Martin, very nice. Looks like it wouldn't be out of place in an episode of star trek.
MartinBell
Few pics from tonights looping touch and go practice. I'm missing the underfin following a 'mishap' yesterday! It will be restored for the nats!
