Martin Bell's new fun flyer

Recommended Posts

Martin has put some photos of his new design here and I thought I'd draw everyone's attention to it.

It's another unique design from a very clever man and he'll be taking it to the Nats so you can see it on the Fun Fly line. Nice one Martin, love it.

I think you can say those ailerons are probably just about big enough wink 2

Hi,

Thank you for the positive comments. It has only flown twice so still trying to get to grips with it!! It's an animal to fly and I'm somewhat rusty so not a good combo! I just hope it actually survives the nats....

Phil,

In theory an eliptical wing is one of the most efficient shapes you can have as the load distribution is constant across the span. A rectangular wing by contrast doesn't produce as much lift out towards the tips so this is effectively wing area that is underemployed. In practice however, rectangular wings or those with a straight taper are more common as they are much easier to build, often lighter and offer good stall characteristics as the root is likely to stall before the tip.

In my case, I just thought it looked cool!! Truth be told you can't beat a regular looking funfly for performance. But they look boring so I thought i'd try something different. smiley

Martin.
